Happy new year! 2024 was huge for TON, 2025 will be even bigger!

TON is not a blockchain

If you look all the way back at the original TON whitepaper, you'll see that the proposed unique features of TON are not merely fast and cheap transactions. TON is a general network for creating decentralized (or at least federated) alternatives of existing services: trustless, uncensorable, robust, without a single failure point.

The current "web3" services are incredibly centralized. They are hosted on a normal domain name managed by ICANN, with centralized SSL certificates, on centralized servers, routed through Cloudflare. Even the data for "on-chain" assets is often just a link to something like a picture without an integrity check!

TON has all the components for building something better.

Here are the exact technologies mentioned by Nikolai Durov:
1. 📰 TON Sites
The Sites allow to host services in a truly decentralized way — with an on-chain DNS, through ADNL, a decentralized network, or TON Storage. This provides a number of benefits: your website cannot be blocked, a smart contract can manage the content, and the owner can prove that the website a user gets is the same as one that was open sourced
2. 💾 TON Storage
This is a decentralized version of Google Drive, similar to Torrents. It allows to host files and get paid when the files are downloaded, and much more
3. 🫣 TON Proxy
This is a decentralized VPN concept that hasn't been fully implemented yet

Currently, all of these technologies are under-developed compared to the blockchain. There is a ton of plans on the TON roadmap to develop them, so we expect a wild ride in the nearest future

There are several ways to access one:
1. As mentioned, they are supported by the Telegram browser — you click on something like foundation.ton and it opens, simple as that
2. You can install our extensions for Chrome and Firefox. After that, you'll be able to simply open them in your browser
3. You can add .ski to the domain. Example: foundation.ton.ski

This partnership bridges the gap between traditional websites and blockchain, providing over 20 million GoDaddy users access to ENS benefits like receiving crypto payments. ENS, the leading naming protocol in crypto, enables users to associate human-readable names (e.g., "bob.eth") with complex Ethereum addresses, akin to DNS functionality in URLs. GoDaddy highlighted that this collaboration enables users to connect their domains (e.g., .com) to ENS-compatible crypto wallets, simplifying crypto payments reception.
