Hey folks, the summer Vancouver law event will now be July 4 & 5, no longer July 5 & 6. That's a Friday and Saturday.
The Sunday, July 6 will now be a social event for all of the BC law groups at a fantastic forest location in West Vancouver.
We will also have Dean Clifford attending as our guest of honour and will be giving up to an hour talk. Yes, you read that correctly, the Dean Clifford! The Sunday event is not open to the public. It is just for workshop attendees past or present.

The Rise of Resilient Agriculture: Insights from Curtis Stone and the SHTF Farmer
In the context of increasing global uncertainty and environmental challenges, the concept of resilient agriculture is gaining prominence. Curtis Stone, widely recognized as the SHTF Farmer, offers a unique perspective on how individuals can take control of their food sources through innovative farming practices. With a focus on sustainability and self-sufficiency, Stone advocates for a proactive approach to farming, particularly in urban settings where space and resources may be limited. By cultivating a resilient mindset, he encourages people to prepare for potential disruptions in food supply chains by embracing local food production. His work not only highlights the importance of agricultural practices that can withstand crises but also emphasizes the empowerment that comes from growing one’s own food. As the global population continues to rise, alongside threats from climate change, learning from the SHTF Farmer could provide much-needed strategies for communities seeking greater food security and sustainability.
What is resilient agriculture and why is it important?
Resilient agriculture refers to farming methods that are capable of withstanding and adapting to stressors such as climate change, economic instability, and global pandemics. This approach is crucial in today’s world as it enables food systems to recover quickly from shocks, reducing vulnerability in communities that rely on stable food supplies. By implementing diverse cropping systems, soil health practices, and efficient water management, farmers can enhance the resilience of their operations.
Moreover, resilient agriculture promotes biodiversity and empowers local farmers by reducing dependence on industrial agriculture and long supply chains. It encourages practices that restore ecosystems and preserve natural resources, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable future for agriculture.
How does Curtis Stone promote urban agriculture?
Curtis Stone promotes urban agriculture through practical advice and techniques that allow individuals to grow food in limited spaces typically found in urban environments. His methods include intensive gardening techniques such as vertical farming, container gardening, and raised beds, which maximize yields while minimizing the need for large plots of land. Stone’s approach makes food production accessible to urban dwellers who may feel constrained by their living conditions.
By utilizing underused spaces such as rooftops, balconies, and community gardens, urban farming can cultivate a sense of community while also addressing food deserts and promoting food sovereignty. Stone’s advocacy empowers individuals to take an active role in their food production, fostering a connection with the land even in densely populated areas.
What are some key practices for sustainable farming?
Sustainable farming encompasses a range of practices designed to enhance soil health, conserve water, and promote biodiversity. Key practices include crop rotation, cover cropping, and organic pest management, which help maintain the ecosystem's integrity while also producing healthy food. These methods not only improve soil fertility but also reduce the reliance on chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
Furthermore, sustainable practices also involve integrated livestock management, where animals contribute to soil fertility through grazing and manure, creating a holistic farming system. By focusing on these sustainable practices, farmers can ensure long-term productivity without compromising the health of the environment.
What role does community play in sustainable agriculture?
Community plays a vital role in sustainable agriculture by fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing among local farmers and consumers. Community-supported agriculture (CSA) initiatives connect producers directly with eaters, ensuring that local farms thrive while providing fresh produce to the community. This participatory approach not only strengthens local economies but also enhances transparency in food production.
Moreover, community gardens and urban farming initiatives create spaces for individuals to cultivate relationships with their food sources, promote awareness about nutrition, and encourage environmental stewardship. By working together towards common goals, communities can build resilience against food insecurity and create a more sustainable future.
How can individuals prepare for food supply disruptions?
Individuals can prepare for food supply disruptions by adopting a self-sufficient mindset. This includes learning basic gardening skills, understanding seasonal crop planting, and developing knowledge about food preservation techniques such as canning and drying. By growing their own food, individuals reduce their dependence on commercial supply chains and cultivate a sense of independence.
Additionally, building local networks with neighbors and participating in community gardens can provide support and resources for collective food production. By pooling knowledge and skills, communities can better withstand economic or environmental challenges that may impact food availability.
