Summary
CFK Africa seeks an experienced healthcare professional to join our Board of Directors which represents a diverse group of professional from across Kenya and the United States. We are currently looking for a member with a background in clinical medicine to enhance our healthcare service provision in some of Kenya’s most underserved communities. Board Members benefit from meaningful service, and access to a large network of global leaders and advisors.
Time Commitment and Term of Office
Directors must be able to dedicate amble time to advise in their area of expertise and participate in broader decision-making. The time commitment is 1-5 hours monthly and includes quarterly board meetings that are usually three hours in duration. Our board is committed to working collaboratively across Kenya and the United States. As such, meetings are primarily virtual with one in-person meeting per year. Kenyan Directors are expected to attend community events in Kibera.
Directors are appointed for an initial term of three years and can be re-elected for subsequent terms.
Key Responsibilities
The all-volunteer Board of Directors is responsible for the effective governance of the organization and holds the Executive Director accountable for CFK Africa’s mission and vision.
• Safeguard the mission of the organization
• Oversee implementation of the 2025-2030 strategic plan and organizational planning
• Ensure strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
• Fundraising and resource development
• Enhance the organization’s public image
• Ensure legal and ethical integrity
• Maintain a connection to and presence in the Kibera community
Preferred Skills
The ideal candidate will share our passion for empowering youth in informal settlements.
Essential Expertise Includes
• 20+ years of experience as a registered medical practitioner with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council
• Understanding of Kenyan healthcare systems including medical audits, continuing medical education, and the health insurance system
• 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in the medical field
• Prior board experience with a CBO, NGO, or private enterprise
• Proven ability to build relationships with stakeholders and policy makers

Community Engagement
• Ability to mobilize resources and partners to increase organization impact
• Passionate about community-led solutions to social issues facing informal settlements
