What is Smog ?

The term "smog" was first used in the early 1900s to describe a mix of smoke and fog.
Smog is an intense form of air pollution, consisting of various harmful toxic gasses such as sulfur dioxide, soot and benzene.

What causes smog?
Today, smog is usually produced photochemically, when chemical pollutants in the air (notably nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds (VOC's) from automobile exhausts) are baked by the sun and react chemically.

When was smog first used?

Which state is most polluted in India?

India first entered an agreement to develop the Chabahar port, which is close to Iran's border with Pakistan, in 2016. It took over operations at the end of 2018.
The port opened a transit route for Indian goods and products to Afghanistan and Central Asia, avoiding the land route through Pakistan - neighbours India and Pakistan share a tense relationship.
So far, 2.5m tonnes of wheat and 2,000 tonnes of pulses have been shipped from India to Afghanistan through Chabahar port, officials say.
Under the new deal, India is set to develop the port further by investing about $370 million in the project.
The country's shipping minister called it a "historic moment in India-Iran ties".

What is the Sir Creek dispute?
The dispute traces its origins to the provisions of the 1914 Bombay government resolution, which sought to demarcate the area between its Sindh and Kutch divisions.

Paragraph 9 of the agreement states that the boundary lies “to the east of the Creek,” implying that the creek belonged to Sindh, now part of Pakistan.

Post-partition in 1947, Sindh and Kutch divisions became part of two countries, India and Pakistan. Thus, the dispute needs to be settled according to international principles of maritime law, called the Thalweg principle.

Sir Creek is a 96-km-long tidal estuary between Gujarat's Rann of Kutch and Pakistan. Named after a British representative, it extends into the Arabian Sea and roughly divides the Sindh province of Pakistan from the Kutch region of Gujarat. According to the officials, the terrain is extremely challenging as summer days are extremely hot and winter nights are extremely cold.

Sir Creek is a disputed territory between India & Pakistan. It is one of the largest fishing grounds in Asia and is also believed to hold unexplored resources.

Every year, on October 31, India observes National Unity Day, also known as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas. This significant day commemorates the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a pivotal figure in India's struggle for independence and the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India.

Note : 31 October is also important from the Perspective of J&K reorganization Act, as J&K reorganization Act 2019 came into effect or implemented from 31 Oct 2019.

In which state is the Statue of Unity located?

The Statue of Unity is the world's tallest statue, with a height of 182 metres (597 feet), located near Kevadia in the state of Gujarat, India.

The Statue of Unity overlooks the vast surrounds and the river basin of the Narmada River and the sprawling Sardar Sarovar dam.

J&K Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Omar abdullah sabh, has approved a one-time relaxation in the upper age limit for candidates applying for JKPSC CCE 2024. This move is designed to broaden the eligibility criteria and attract a larger pool of applicants.

Cabinet also greenlighted the filling other posts in various government departments, as part of a broader strategy to enhance public services and create significant employment opportunities across the UT of J&K.

Facts for Prelims :-

The 42nd Amendment added the words “Socialist,” “Secular,” and “Integrity” to the Preamble of the Indian Constitution.

The 42nd Amendment Act of 1976:-
It transferred five subjects from the State List to the Concurrent List, namely education, forests, protection of wild animals and birds, administration of justice, and weights and measures. This increased the legislative power of the Centre over the States.

Under the Montague Chelmsford report, the Government of India Act of 1919 provided for a bicameral legislature, or the Centre, as well as the provinces.

At present, However, only six states, which includes Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh having bicameral legislature.

Note :Before 2019, J&K was also bicameral but now it's unicameral legislature.
