Col Benerjee joined the Army in the mid 90s & shined as the topper of her MOBC course, reported to her first posting at Command Hosp. Udhampur (NC).
As the Kargil war (1999) broke out there was shortage of medical offrs with frontline combat Units/BN/Regt. She was attached jointly with 17 Garhwal & 110 Engrs (BOM) at Jubar Heights, actively involved in assault with the unit, casualty evacuation, giving first-aid under cross-firing, at uncertain times even dragging the wounded to the rear. For her conduct in the war she was awarded the COAS Commendation.
Later attached to Arunachal Scouts, the entire regiment airlifted for the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia & Eritrea (UNMEE), was awarded the UN Force Cdr Commendation for her conduct. She developed the Northern Cmd MED Web which contains the latest & extremely useful info. for all the Med offrs, FD Hospitals & RMO's with frontline units & was awarded CISC Commendation.
