An interesting thing I noticed, but didn't think much of at the time...During the pad avoidance maneuver, the chopsticks seemed to take quite a beating (per usual).
After Starship cleared the tower the chopsticks began closing to perform the automated health checks. The ended up opening up again a few minutes later which did not happen during flight 5. This the time period where the issue was detected.

Since the road opened crews have been on the chopsticks performing inspections.

Note: You can also see the before and after of the lightning tower damage. I doubt this truly played a part in triggering the abort but its possible it was a factor

Here is the Official statement from SpaceX:

"Following a nominal ascent and stage separation, the booster successfully transitioned to its boostback burn to begin the return to launch site. During this phase, automated health checks of critical hardware on the launch and catch tower triggered an abort of the catch attempt"

The Wall Street Journal published yet another incredibly misleading story about Starlink based upon completely unsubstantiated claims from unnamed sources.

As has been repeatedly confirmed by the Department of Defense, SpaceX has worked (and continues to work) in close partnership with the U.S. Government regarding Ukraine and denial of service to bad actors. The Wall Street Journal repeats long-ago debunked claims that Starlink ever turned off service for Ukrainian soldiers. Starlink’s contributions to the Ukrainian defense and the Ukrainian people are indisputable. Starlink has kept Ukrainians online and connected to the world throughout the conflict and Starlink has defended itself against major efforts to disrupt that connection, at great cost to the company.

Regarding Taiwan, as even the Taiwan government has confirmed, Starlink is not available there because Taiwan has not given us a license to operate, and regulators declined to remove a requirement that a foreign entity own 51% of Starlink to operate there. SpaceX has not accepted such a condition for any market in which it operates. This has nothing to do with Russia or China.

NASA Statement on the Crew-8 Astronauts:

“After safely splashing down on Earth as part of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-8 mission Friday, a NASA astronaut experienced a medical issue. NASA astronauts Matthew Dominick, Michael Barratt, and Jeanette Epps, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin were flown together to Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola in Florida.

After medical evaluation at the hospital, three of the crew members departed Pensacola and have arrived at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.

The one astronaut who remains at Ascension is in stable condition under observation as a precautionary measure. To protect the crew member’s medical privacy, specific details on the individual’s condition or identity will not be shared.

During its return to Earth, the SpaceX Dragon executed a normal entry and splashdown. Recovery of the crew and the spacecraft was without incident. During routine medical assessments on the recovery ship, the additional evaluation of the crew members was requested out of an abundance of caution.

We’re grateful to Ascension Sacred Heart for its support during this time, and we are proud of our team for its quick action to ensure the safety of our crew members.
The Crew-8 crew members splashed down aboard their Dragon spacecraft near Pensacola, Florida, to complete a 235-day mission, 232 days of which were spent aboard the International Space Station conducting scientific research.

NASA will provide additional information as it becomes available.”
