The Effects Of Sinful Acts on Attaining Knowledge⚠️

Ibn Qayyim رحمه الله wrote:

“Knowledge is a light which Allah casts in the heart and the sinful act extinguishes its light.

When Imam Al-Shafi’i sat before Imam Maalik to learn and read something, Imam Maalik was amazed by his excessive intelligence, brilliant brightness and perfect understanding.

He said to him:
“I see that Allah has cast a light on your heart, do not extinguish it by disobeying Him”.

Imam Al Shafi’i said in a poem:
“I complained to Waki’ about my bad memory and he advised me to keep away from sinful acts. He said that knowledge was a favour from Allah and Allah’s favour is not given to a sinner”.

Shaykh Muqbil bin Hadi al-Wadi’i, رحمه الله, said:

وإنني أقول لإخواني الدعاة إلى الله في جميع البلاد الإسلامية: عليهم أن يشمروا عن ساعد الجد، وعليهم أن يقصدوا بدعوتهم وجه الله، لا لأجل الكراسي، ولا لأجل المناصب، ولا لأجل حطام الدنيا، إن الله لا يقبل من العمل إلا ما كان خالصًا لوجهه.

I say to my brothers who are callers to Allah in all the Islamic lands: They must roll up their sleeves with seriousness and determination. They must intend in their da’wah the Face of Allah alone—not for chairs, not for positions, and not for the fleeting gains of this world. Verily, Allah does not accept any deed except what is sincerely for His sake.

الدعوة إلى الله أرفع من الكراسي، وأرفع من المناصب، وأرفع من حطام الدنيا، {ومن أحسن قولاً ممّن دعا إلى الله وعمل صالحًا وقال إنّني من المسلمين}.

Calling to Allah is loftier than chairs, loftier than positions, and loftier than the fleeting gains of this world.
Allah says: “And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allah, does righteous deeds, and says, ‘Indeed, I am from the Muslims’”
[Surah Fussilat 41:33].

Shaykh Muqbil b. Hādī al-Wādiʿī رحمه الله said:

“A student of knowledge must be patient,
طالب العلم لابد أن يصبر،

even if matters and problems accumulate upon him,
حتى وإن تراكمت عليه الأمور والمشاكل،

and he feels tightness in his chest.
ووجد ضيقًا في صدره،

He may even push himself with memorisation
وربما يُكلِّف نفسه من الحفظ

and dedication to seeking knowledge
ومن الاهتمام بطلب العلم،

to the extent that he feels hardness in his heart.
حتى يجد قسوةً في قلبه،

This should not deter him,
فلا ينبغي أن يُثنِيه عن هذا،

for Shayṭān does not want good for you;
فالشيطان لا يُريد لك الخير،

he wants to turn you away from seeking knowledge.
يُريد أن يَصرِفك عن طلب العلم؛

This is because seeking knowledge in this time
لأنّ طلب العلم في هذا الزمن

is the greatest fortress, by the permission of Allah the Exalted,
أعظم حصن بإذن الله تعالى،

that protects you from trials.”
يَقِيك من الفتن.

Alhumdulillah, the Yemeni office is starting to reopen - so we advise those who are planning to travel to prepare إن شاء الله .

HOWEVER, as it is the end of the year, this is the season where the students in Yemen are all renewing their documents, so as you can imagine, it is very busy.

Advice for the People of the Sunnah in Times of Adversity

Shaykh Muqbil bin Hadi Al-Wadi’i رحمه الله said:

“My Advice to the People of the Sunnah.
In this difficult time, when all forces of evil are conspiring to eliminate the people of the Sunnah and their call, because it alone stands against and refutes evil with clear insight.
I offer my second piece of advice to my brothers among the people of the Sunnah.
I advise them with the following:

1. Sincerity to Allah

Allah says:
“And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, being sincere to Him in religion.”
(Surah Al-Bayyinah: 5)

2 & 3. Patience and Taqwa

Allah says:
“But if you are patient and fear Allah, their plot will not harm you at all.”
(Surah Aal-Imran: 120)

4. Companionship among themselves

Allah describes the believers:

“Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those who are with him are severe against the disbelievers and merciful among themselves.”
(Surah Al-Fath: 29)

In the Sahihayn (Bukhari and Muslim), it is narrated from Al-Nu’man ibn Bashir رضي الله عنه that the Prophet ‎ﷺ said:

“The example of the believers in their mutual love, mercy, and compassion is like a single body; if one part of it suffers, the rest of the body responds with sleeplessness and fever.”

Based on this, every Sunni, wherever they may be on earth, should feel that we stand with them, through our writings, speech, and any other means, within the limits of our capability and in accordance with the bounds set by the Shari’ah.”

Answer:
“For a beginner student of knowledge who can read and write, it is recommended to start with the following books:

•Fath al-Majid Sharh Kitab al-Tawhid – It is a great book.

•Al-Aqidah Al-Wasitiyyah by Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah.

•Al-Qawl Al-Mufid by our brother Muhammad bin Abdulwahab al-Wassabi.

•Bulugh al-Maram.

•Riyadh al-Salihin.

Reading these books will naturally lead you to desire other books. If possible, it is best to start with memorising the Quran. For our non-Arab brothers, mastering the Arabic language is very important. If a person is not proficient in Arabic, someone might come to him, perhaps in an Islamic guise, and interpret the Quran incorrectly, as happened with the Mu'tazilis.”

Tell My ˹believing˺ servants to say only what is best. Satan certainly seeks to sow discord among them. Satan is indeed a sworn enemy to humankind

Jabir reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, Satan has given up that those who pray will ever worship him, so rather he incites hateful discord between them.

Let this be a reminder that things can change and to take advantage of the blessing of obtaining Yemeni visas while the opportunity is still available.

The Messenger of Allah, ‎ﷺ, said:

“اغْتَنِمْ خَمْسًا قَبْلَ خَمْسٍ شَبَابَكَ قَبْلَ هَرَمِكَ وَصِحَّتَكَ قَبْلَ سَقَمِكَ وَغِنَاكَ قَبْلَ فَقْرِكَ وَفَرَاغَكَ قَبْلَ شُغُلِكَ وَحَيَاتَكَ قَبْلَ مَوْتِكَ”

“Take advantage of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your illness, your riches before your poverty, your free time before your work, and your life before your death.”
(Sahih- Shu’ab al-Imān lil-Bayhaqī )

May Allah put barakah in our time, our health, and our wealth, and protect us from being heedless and squandering these blessings.

And May Allah make easy a path for the Muslims to live in the lands of Islam and protect our hearts from the evil plots of the Shaytaan and the disbelievers.

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَعَنَ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمۡ سَعِيرًا
خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدٗاۖ لَّا يَجِدُونَ وَلِيّٗا وَلَا نَصِيرٗا

Verily, Allah has cursed the disbelievers, and has prepared for them a flaming Fire (Hell). Wherein they will abide forever, and they will find neither a Wali (a protector) nor a helper.
(Surah Al Ahzaab 64-65)

And May Allah protect us from the cursed ones and their final destination.

“At least we have social justice in the West…”

Subhanallah, this is something I was told recently by someone who was adamant that the West is the best place for him and his family due to Muslim countries being “corrupt” and the West being the “pinnacle of social justice.”

We seek Allah’s aid, and may Allah protect and preserve us from the influence of the West.

We recently heard of our brother in Islam, Marcellus Williams, who was executed by those who are allegedly “upholders of justice” in the state of Missouri (USA).
The family of the victim themselves pleaded for his life to be saved.
Even the prosecutors in his case pleaded for his innocence, stating they should not execute him. His final statement before his execution was:
“الحمد لله على كل حال”
(All Praise be to Allah in every situation).

This is not an isolated instance.
False imprisonment and convictions—self-admitted by the courts of “justice” in the West—occur frequently.
There are false convictions against parents for disciplining their OWN children and convictions against parents for “kidnapping” their OWN children to take them to Muslim countries.

How many times have we seen children wrongly taken away from their families by this “just” government, given to others to be raised, and denied contact?
How many times have we heard of fathers wrongfully prevented from seeing their own children post-divorce because this “just” land can prohibit them from doing so?
And more recently the prohibition of offering prayers in some schools in the West,
The list goes on…

Know, my beloved brothers and sisters, that you will NEVER receive complete justice at the hands of disbelievers for MANY reasons.
Among them are:
1. They rule the people with a law other than Allah’s Law; true and complete justice can only be achieved through following the legislation of Allah in accordance to the Quran and Sunnah.

أَفَحُكۡمَ ٱلۡجَـٰهِلِیَّةِ یَبۡغُونَۚ وَمَنۡ أَحۡسَنُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ حُكۡمࣰا لِّقَوۡمࣲ یُوقِنُونَ
“Then is it the judgement of (the time of) ignorance they desire?
But who is better than Allāh in judgement for a people who are certain [in faith].”
(Surah Al-Māidah: 50)

Allah also informs us in the Quran about the reality of the disbelievers in Surah Al-Baqarah:

“وَلَن تَرۡضَىٰ عَنكَ ٱلۡيَهُودُ وَلَا ٱلنَّصَٰرَىٰ حَتَّىٰ تَتَّبِعَ مِلَّتَهُمۡ”
“NEVER will the Jews nor the Christians be pleased with you till you follow their religion.”

Don’t be deceived by the disbelievers who tell you that these Muslim countries are oppressive and that they will give you “freedom and justice.”
The same people who are currently funding and aiding in the killing of our brothers and sisters in Palestine—these murderers are the ones who will give YOU justice?

Allah has made this clear in Surah Al Imran:

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تَتَّخِذُواْ بِطَانَةٗ مِّن دُونِكُمۡ لَا يَأۡلُونَكُمۡ خَبَالٗا وَدُّواْ مَا عَنِتُّمۡ قَدۡ بَدَتِ ٱلۡبَغۡضَآءُ مِنۡ أَفۡوَٰهِهِمۡ وَمَا تُخۡفِي صُدُورُهُمۡ أَكۡبَرُ

“Oh you who believe!
Take not as (your) Bitanah (advisors, consultants, protectors, helpers, friends, etc.) those outside your religion (pagans, Jews, Christians, and hypocrites) since they will not fail to do their BEST to corrupt you. They desire to harm you severely. Hatred has already appeared from their mouths, but what their breasts conceal is far worse.” (3:118)

This is from part of the plots of the disbelievers. The heart of the believer should not be pleased with a people upon Kufr and Shirk, who openly display it, teach it, and promoted to the public - the young and elderly of them.

The Prophet ‎ﷺ said:
“Whoever among you sees evil, let him change it with his hand. If he cannot do so, then with his tongue. If he cannot do so, then with his heart, which is the weakest level of faith.”
(Sahih Muslim)

May Allah grant ease to the Muslims who are being oppressed in the world, and grant them success in this life and the next.

Ignorance in the Arabic Language is a Cause of Deviation:

Imam al-Shafi'i رحمه الله said :

“People have never become ignorant and gone astray until they left the Arabic language and inclined to the language of Aristotle.”

“The cause of innovation is ignorance of the Arabic language.”
