We have been notified of a recent TikTok video spreading false information that UNHCR is providing UNHCR cards and registration appointments for married couples who walk into UNHCR. The video also encourages individuals to come to UNHCR for walk-in appointments and UNHCR card.

1. Please prepare the website reference number BEFORE calling
2. This number is only for those who have applied for registration BEFORE 1 January 2023
3. Please call between 2PM and 4PM, not earlier, not later. The phone is operational only in these hours.
4. If you cannot get an appointment, try again the next day
5. In addition to the hotline, UNHCR continues to give appointments by SMS and e-mail based on website application, and based on criteria and procedures explained in the Refugee Malaysia website. This is not the only opportunity to get an appointment.

The phone will be attended by English or Malay speaker only. Please make sure you have someone to help you with communication, if you don’t speak these languages.
This line is for registration appointments only, and your cooperation
is appreciated to allow other applicants to be attended, as well.

Beware of Scam: Resettlement to the Netherlands for Afghan Nationals

UNHCR has received reports of a scam targeting Afghan nationals. Through emails, the individual claims that the UNHCR and US Forces Afghanistan (USFORA) are assisting 50 applicants to resettle to the Netherlands via a Special Humanitarian Visa.
This is a scam. These individuals are not connected to UNHCR and have no authority or ability to resettle anyone. Do not share your personal information with them or pay them any money.
With the latest announcement on the United States Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP), beware of individuals taking advantage of the situation. If you come across suspicious messages or individuals claiming to be able to provide resettlement for a fee or for any other services, report this to:
- The police at the nearest police station or the CCID Scam Response Centre at 03-26101559 or 03-26101599 (8am – 8pm)
- UNHCR at www.refugeemalaysia.org/contact
All UNHCR services are free. Be careful of individuals claiming to be able to help you obtain resettlement or any other UNHCR processes in exchange for money or other services.
Your UNHCR card will not be cancelled and your case will not be delayed or closed if you report suspicious activities to UNHCR.
