I'm 44 and focused on retirement. Should BTC be an after thought?

I just started buying BTC in late November 2024. So, far I've put in about $3000. I'm currently in a position where I can invest $2,000 a month to whatever I want. My options are buy more BTC, pay off my house in 8 yeas instead of 26 years or apply it to traditional investments (S&P, IRA..etc).

I believe BTC will do great in the coming years, but as it gets more expensive, my $2K buy less and less. I don't know if I'll be able to own enough BTC by the time I ready to retire...I also wonder if bitcoin is a great retirement strategy?

If we pretend that the price of bitcoin goes up by $100,000 each year, I would have 1 coin by mid 2032.

Mistakes & What This BTC Mom Did Right Hodling for 10+ years

TLDR: Put in what you can afford, don’t obsess over price or even check if you can help it, continue investing. Don’t let your ego stop you from increasing your cost basis.

First of all, in 2013 when I got into BTC, this was one of the first places I came to find out what it was all about. Thought I’d write some thoughts that may or may not be helpful to a newbie.

I came across Bitcoin in late 2013 when I had a newborn and was home with small children. I’m the type of person who researches things to the death and kind of go on kicks when I find something interesting. I put in a lot of reading and came to the conclusion it would either go to nothing or 1 million+. I got my husband on board by explaining it as best I could and by convincing him to put an amount we could afford to lose. He agreed to let me put some money in and it would be up to me to decide how to manage.

The best thing I ever did was consider that money spent and not obsessing over the price. When it tanked I was able to say “oh well. Let’s see how it turns out.” I honestly only check the price when I hear about bitcoin on the news or others talking about it and it has turned out how to be an excellent top indicator for sure. With a long term strategy I never panicked that the top was over because I was in it for the longterm.

I sold some one time to get some expensive equipment for a business/hobby that has brought me great enjoyment and been really great for my family. I don’t regret taking that amount of profit but I would only have done it this once, and again I should have kept investing after. I live like I did before. I drive a 15 year old vehicle, live in modest house, and work full time.

The worst thing I ever did is that I didn’t keep on buying after initial investment. Due to me promising my husband I wouldn’t keep putting more in after initial investment, I missed out on a ton of gains. We could be financially free now instead of just having a really good amount saved. I’m glad I kept my word to him but I could have found other amounts to put in and he would have agreed over the years. Don’t let pride of your entry price stop you from continuing to invest what you can afford (and what you can afford to not touch minimum 4 years).

Now, I have a strategy that I will never go below a certain percentage of my holding, and I will only do so for a couple reasons:

1- to see my husband leave his high stress physically demanding job. He is the hardest worker in the world and I lucked out on him more than I ever did finding bitcoin early. I would love to surprise him by paying off the mortgage without him knowing in advance! I will do this for 20% of my holdings when it gets there. I know it would be better left and the mortgage paid off with fiat, but time with him gained would be worth it.

2- My kids are the best. The oldest is a talented and hard working teen. She spends hours and hours as a ballerina and also earns straight As. She wants to be a surgeon one day and I hope that my investment will be enough to send her to a good university. Right now she is under impression she will have to pay for it all. One other thing is I want more than anything to take her to see her favorite ballerina live before she retires. She also is obsessed with ancient history and particularly Ancient Rome. One day we will do an epic trip to see ruins and different sites. But I will only do this if I can do this with a very small percent of my holding. My other kids are young enough I’m hoping I can have enough when they get to university age.

Considering spending all my inheritance on bitcoin

I’m 19 and I’ve recently inherited around $20,000 cash, and a bunch of other stuff. Current net worth because of my inheritance may be around 800,000 (I am also now going to receive around $1500 every month)

What I’m considering is selling my stake in one of these properties and buying bitcoin with it. My stake in this property is worth around $100,000 give or take.

I want to do this and buy maybe 1.2 BTC
I will continuing DCA’ing $800 every month

Thoughts on this plan and whether I should go through with it?

I'm considering selling my stocks to go all in on Bitcoin. Thoughts?

I'm 24 and started DCA'ing 100 EUR/month into Bitcoin for a year now and the more I learn about Bitcoin the more I start to think why I even bother investing in stocks. My stocks are worth around 10K and I'm not doing anything with that money. I still DCA 300 EUR/month in my stock portfolio. Got an emergency fund still on my savings account.

So now I'm thinking to sell it all (or a portion) and put that into Bitcoin, while still DCA'ing, or leave it and swap the amount I'm DCA'ing in stocks into Bitcoin. I could also continue to DCA and wait for a correction to put a big lump sum from my stocks into it.

I'm just not sure if this is my FOMO talking and I'm making a mistake. I see a lot of people here claiming they are 100% in Bitcoin, and a lot of people not believing any of that.

Dream update: next stop is $155,000

You may remember me from my October 2024 post.

I shared a premonition dream, where I saw Bitcoin would reach a target of $93,000 and "the price would move swiftly and without warning".

So, last night I had another Bitcoin dream.

I saw the price was hovering around $155,000 for a while, with a short-lived spike to $200,000.

Looks like things are going to be moving fast now, and we should mentally prepare for seeing >$150,000.

We've seen the price bounce around the $99,500-$108,500 range for a while now. And today it seems to be positioning to break and continue hitting new highs.

Selling my Bitcoin after 4 years to cover groceries, it's been an honor.

Bought in at 68,000 with a couple hundred. It was an all time high so I just held onto it when it tumbled. Slowly, I've been rewarded for believing in it.

Now the time has come and I can't cover groceries without dipping into the ol' bitcoin wallet. Had a good run though, it's around $600 now.

Hello,

Shoutout to my favorite reddit sub Bitcoin!

I just sold 10% and got back all the fiat I ever DCA into BTC.

It was years and years of waiting and riding the chaotic current of ups and downs.

the hate and negativity, the doubt.

When do I sell?

Well for me it was today, because in EUROS it was a peak day.

And I do not care if next week BTC is up more and more.

Because the 90% of my BTC left will hodl and hodl untill the day I don't have to sell for fiat anymore.

Found an old "blockchain.info" wallet from 2015 with $6000+ in it.. $1000 reward if anyone can help

Basically going through old hard drives, found a bunch of text documents. Came across one wallet with a 0.063 BTC balance.

I have the wallet ID, (blockchain login gives me "Invalid token" error.) I have the password. And I have the 16 word phrase blockchain.info gave me, not sure the purpose of that.

No actual seed or json file to my knowledge.


Think I am screwed, but $1000 in BTC if anyone can help me successfully recover.

Please ban “Bitcoin lost in Welsh landfill” posts.

James Howells has only one goal: to get into as many news articles as possible every time Bitcoin hits a new milestone. The story generates clicks and this is good for him financially as well as for the click and karma farming idiots who keep reposting it a billion times.

There is no proof this man has ever even owned the Bitcoin he claims to have lost. Regardless, it’s scientifically impossible for a hard drive to have survived this long in an open air landfill.

This story is literally just clickbait for online articles, unless you’re from Newport then it’s a financial burden on you because the guy keeps trying to sue local authorities just to give “news” outlets a slightly different headline to repackage the story yet again. He sued the city for £500m just because newspapers like his story and give him credibility where he has zero.

This person will keep rinsing and repeating until Bitcoin hits 1 million and beyond. The only way to deal with it is to stop talking about it and to brand James Howells posts as low effort clickbait. This scam operation has gone on for long enough.

If you don’t think it’s a scam: now the guy wants to start his own coin based on his fame. When the rugpulling starts and he finally gets rich from this (literal) rubbish then people might realise he’s a scammer.

“A proposal has been submitted to Meta requesting that the board conduct an assessment to determine whether they should add Bitcoin to their balance sheet.

We need to talk about Blackrock

Every day, multiple times per day, I see posts and comments from apparently clueless people talking about Blackrock.

"Blackrock is manipulating the price."

"Blackrock is shorting to drive the price down to make you panic sell so they can buy it cheap."

That's not how it works.

Blackrock offers an ETF to their customers. They make money by charging a fee to the ETF customers.

They are not a whale swing trading to try to drive price movement. If anything, I would argue it is in their interest to see the price of Bitcoin go up, because that would drive more people to buy and hold their ETF.

So, please STFU with your Blackrock Bitcoin tinfoil hat nonsense.

BTC is at 100k while interest rates are historically really high,still in QT,manufaturing PMI lowest in years and DXY(dollar) still very high.


This is most bullish case for BTC.


Because interest rate will go down,
QT will end and QE will begin,
Manufacturing PMI will start to rise again,
DXY will go down.Most of that will truly start to happen in 2025.
Not to mention pro crypto politics.


All of that will happend in next few years.Even if we get some recession scare,they will lower rates to 0% and go hard on QE.

My parents bought bitcoin.

My parents have heard me talking about bitcoin and asked if I would be willing to buy some on their behalf. I explained the risks, the possibility of a 80% drop, and they still wanted to move forward with the view of holding for at least 5 years.

I helped them buy and move to cold storage.

$1M Bitcoin Portfolio in my twenties. Crying rn...

In mid-2022, I bought 11 BTC at \~$20.5K for **$225,000.**

A few days ago, I sold my entire portfolio for **$1,002,000.**

The transfer from Coinbase to my BofA account hit today, so I decided to make this post.

Do I think Bitcoin will hit $100K this year? Yes.

Do I think it will continue its run in 2025? Yes.

But am I gonna try to time the top? No.

I'd much rather secure a guaranteed $1 million at this age than risk losing it by trying to time the market.

I sold when BTC was $91K, and as I'm writing this it's sitting at $93K. So far I have missed out on *\*some\** gains... and I'm sure I'll miss out on much more as the months go by. And that's okay with me.

I hope everyone reading this KILLS IT during this bull market!

P.S. For those who will inevitably ask *"So how'd you get $225K at 22 years old then? Daddy's money?"* The answer is no. I've been trying to launch dozens of businesses since I was 14. Some worked, most failed. So that money was basically my life savings from 14-22 haha.

I got laughed at when I said this…

I’m a millennial and a lot of people my age are frustrated because they don’t feel like they have the same opportunity to own property as our parents and grandparents did. Wages haven’t kept up and homeownership seems out of reach.

I was orange-pilled in 2022 and I’ve done well with BTC. Recently, in a conversation about building wealth through real estate, I mentioned that “Bitcoin is the real estate of our generation.” As previous generations built wealth through physical property, we have a chance to build that same wealth through digital property.

That did not go over well. The average person just doesn’t get it.

Bitcoin as a savings technology

In his YT videos Joe Burnett (worth watching) said something that I had not considered before.


It was something along the lines of keeping most of your wealth in BTC indefinitely instead of a savings account, and only converting to fiat if you need to pay a bill or go on vacation etc.

Then he said something like:

In Dollar terms the cost of the coffee beans he buys have become 45% more expensive in the last 5 years.

In BTC terms they are 85% cheaper than 5 years ago.


Does anyone see BTC in this way?

Opened an old wallet to $11k (.16btc)

Decided to open an old wallet in a cold storage I had because I got back into BTC recently after a few years. Thought I had nothing on it. Turns out I’ve got $11k from when I consolidated what alt coins I had left into btc and chose to forget about it because it wasn’t worth much. Fortunately I decided to hold onto it through my moves. Purchased a home. Thanks bitcoin!

I just bought a house since I had a baby born earlier this year and put the down payment by selling some of my stack plus some saved cash.
I bought in a market where otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to do it or would have needed to work more if I have stayed in the fiat world. Now my kid has a place to grow and develop instead of a rental.

My experience with BTC

I consider myself an unlikely Bitcoin investor as an older female. A reputable newspaper came out with an opinion article suggesting people look into it. I read about BTC and bought at the top in 2021:/ Somehow survived and still holding (in the green now).

My prediction is this thing will take off, but it will be painfully slow. Stats show most people are not good with money and don’t have much to invest. Add the scandals like SBF and Silk Road, and people just get scared off. It will take years of ‘proof’ that it is a solid investment for the naysayers. Many people still don’t trust stocks, and how long has that been around and showing its worth?

Buy, hold, wait. If you are young, I am jealous bc this will happen at a better time in your life. At least my future grandchildren will be set:)

Is it just me or has the Bitcoin narrative shifted a bit?

Like, remember when Bitcoin was all about separating money from the state and giving power back to the people? That whole “freedom money” vibe? But lately, it feels like all anyone talks about is ETFs, institutional adoption, and price pumps.

I get it, the price going up is cool, but... are we seriously just gonna ignore the decentralization part? The thing that actually makes Bitcoin special? It's kinda wild how the bigger someone's BTC bag gets, the less they seem to care about the original ethos. It's like people are more into chart porn than challenging the system anymore.

Am I trippin', or has the conversation really shifted from "fix the money, fix the world" to "when moon, when ETF"? 🤷‍♂️

What do y'all think? Are we losing the plot here, or is this just part of the evolution?

Best book to learn about Bitcoin

Hello everybody, I'm already invested into Bitcoin and I have a general knowledge of how cryptocurrency works and all that. I would still like to dive deeper into the idea behind Bitcoin and get a more in depth understanding of it. Found an old wallet with 0.26 BTC in it from 2013...

... and the private key is long gone. I guess that's my contribution to the overall scarcity. This one hurts a bit.

Most people won't care even if Bitcoin hits $1 million

I was having a thought experiment and was curious on what other opinions you guys had: what will our society look like when Bitcoin is priced at one million USD?

Sure it would be headlining financial news, but by that time, people will be desensitized every time it hits $100k, $500k, so on.

The level of adoption based on UX and education will be more relevant to the ordinary person than its price per se, which I hope will grow exponentially in the decades to come.

For me, I would still have significantly more to go to become a millionaire but it would still help with the down payment for my first home, or pay off a mortgage if it miraculously got approved by that time.

Reflecting back on my own past (and my current non-bitcoiner friends), news about Bitcoin had zero relevance to me at every single bull run. Every time I said things like “I missed the chance”, or “it has no real application to me right now” and continue to see no reason to explore alternatives to fiat currency. The fiat mindset is literally ingrained in our brains from such a young age - that will slowly start to change as bitcoin education gains traction. So we will probably see true mass adoption (although $1 million price tag might arrive sooner) take generations from now, i.e., 15-30 years. Why I say 15 years is because 2009 babies will be 30 years old by then and covid babies 19 years old, assuming a larger generational shift in monetary mindset.

My 10 year old son asked me what bitcoin was and I’m not the best educator so he is probably more confused now than he was before. How do you explain to kids what bitcoin is/does?
