Low Liquidity

December includes major holidays like Christmas and New Year's, during which financial markets slow down as traders take time off. This lack of participation contributes to choppy and thin markets.

The combination of lower liquidity and sporadic activity can cause unusual price spikes and whipsaws. Moves that would otherwise be significant are often not backed by volume or conviction.
End-of-Year Profit Taking
