Photographer Xiao Yang visited the former Soviet Union and socialist camp countries from Armenia to Croatia and captured modernist monuments.

"...I come to them in the dark and paint them with light. I want to present their beauty with a new approach. Using light photography, I try to create a door connecting past and future, prosperity and decay, glory and pain, monuments before my eyes and me. Creating surrealism in reality is a fascinating process.

"Dreaming Sunset" is a story of waiting.
Waiting for the eruption to end for the people of La Palma.
The Cumbre Vieja eruption lasted 88 days, the longest in a long time. Each evening the sunset stopped time. People climbed the hills to look at the volcano, waiting for the nightmare to end."- Federica Carducci

"Old Growth" Mitchell Epstein

Mitchell Epstein (1952) was an American fine art photographer, one of the first to make extensive use of color.

This series celebrates the majesty and resilience of primitive wilderness untouched by man. It explores ancient forests in remote regions of the United States, where ninety-five percent of old-growth forests have been destroyed. Through images of individual trees and interdependent biosystems-such as ponderosa pines, bald cypresses, eastern white pines, cedars, sequoias, and pandos-Old Growth shows the promise of the future and foreshadows what we may lose to climate catastrophe.

Ren Hang
1987-2017

Ren Hang is a Chinese photographer and poet. In 2007, to dispel the boredom of studying advertising in college, he bought a soapbox and started taking pictures of his friends. His work is significant in that it represents Chinese sexuality in a heavily censored society. He was arrested several times by the PRC authorities for these erotic shades.

Questioning the purpose of his work, he once stated that his creation was a way to seek pleasure for both the photographer and the photographed. However, once he achieved international fame, he began to think deeply about his work.

Ren Hang was heavily influenced by Chinese and Asian contemporary art, particularly Japanese photographer and contemporary artist Nobuyoshi Araki.

JOE MORTELL.

Concepts for living spaces by London-based artist Joe Mortell.

Mortell's 3D renderings of environments have a pleasantly familiar, dreamlike atmosphere. With carefully stylized compositions and honed imagery, it's as if we've peeked into a digital utopia. With lighting, furniture and eye-catching textures, Mortell's work transforms the digital realm into something almost tangible.

Lillian Bassman
1917-2012

Lillian Bassman was born in Brooklyn in 1917. Two months after studying photography as a protégé of Alexey Brodovitch, Bassman landed a permanent position at Harper's Bazaar in 1946. In 1949, she photographed her first Paris couture collection.

Bassman experimented by printing through fabric and gauze, "burning out" certain areas or bleaching areas to create images that appeared to be something between watercolor and photography.

"I was interested in developing my own method of printing, even before I started taking photographs. I was interested in creating a vision different from what the camera sees."

After 30 years, Bassman became disillusioned with the photography profession and destroyed some of her negatives. In the early 1990s, her neighbor discovered a bag of negatives and returned it to Bassman. Afterward, she became particularly adept at digitally processing images with a computer, effectively replacing her many hours in the darkroom.
