Since June of 2024 Netanyahu has been consolidating power both within his coalition and throughout the non-elected arms of the Israeli government.
- In June of 2024, Benny Gantz, leader of the opposition, attempted to collapse the unity government that had formed in the aftermath of October 7th when Israel declared a state of emergency to give Netanyahu a safety net to conduct the war in Gaza. This attempt failed and was followed immediately by a spectacle by Bibi with the Noa Argamani military rescue operation to shore support and paint the opposition as treacherous. This gained Nentanyahu’s party, Likud, more seats in the Knesset at the expense of the opposition.
- In September 2024, Netanyahu began reconciliation with old rivals, such as Gideon Sa’ar to intrinsically strengthen his own coalition and weaken his reliance (and thus sway) of the more reactionary elements of the Israeli far right (Ben-Gvir and Smotrich)
- Throughout all of 2024 Netanyahu fostered mutual distrust and confrontation between the two largest far right parties (led by Ben-Gvir and Smotrich) so that they would not form a single voting block against actions that would be advantageous for him. This was clear when Ben-Gvir resigned from the government following the enactment of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement, while Smotrich stayed on, averting the collapse of Netanyahu’s coalition.
- In November of 2024, Netanyahu cemented his influence over the cabinet after all major Gaza operations were exhausted by firing Israel’s defense minister Yoav Gallant, and replacing him with Israel Katz, his loyalist Foreign Minister, and gave Katz’ post to Gideon Sa’ar, whom he reconciled with earlier in the year and who merged his party with Likud. Gallant was a known critic of Netanyahu especially on the subject of reaching a ceasefire and how to prosecute the war effort.
- In March of 2025, the Chief of Staff of the IDF, Herzi Halevi, resigned and was largely blamed for Israel’s failure in October 7 alongside the head of the Shin Bet, Ronen bar. was replaced by another Netanyahu loyalist, Eyal Zamir who then in turn dismissed the IDF’s spokesperson, Daniel Hagari.
- As Trump threw a wild card proposition of completely ethnically cleansing Gaza and directly meeting with Hamas without Israel, Netanyahu is now attempting to completely take control of Israel’s negotiation position by expunging the last vestiges of Israel’s anti-reactionary elite institutions who have time and time again stood against his political and military directives. These individuals include the chief of Shin Bet, the Chief of Mossad, and the Attorney General.
If the last three positions are replaced with Netanyahu loyalists, every facet of the Israeli government apart from the judicial system will be aligned with Netanyahu. Even then, the attempts by Netanyahu to fatally subordinate the courts to the will of the Knesset (which he controls) back in March of 2023 have slowly been brought up in the Knesset after the initial outroar which has long since subsided as the national focus shifted to the war on Gaza.

The Role of Social Media in Shaping Perceptions of the Palestinian Cause
In the age of digital communication, social media has become an instrumental platform for raising awareness and advocating for various social and political issues worldwide. One of the most significant movements leveraging this powerful medium has been the Palestinian cause, which has seen an influx of support and activism through various online platforms. Among these, Telegram has emerged as a prominent tool for individuals and groups aiming to disseminate information, organize efforts, and foster community engagement around the complex and ongoing situation in Palestine. The creation of dedicated channels, such as the 'Palestinian Lounge,' exemplifies how social media can serve as a vehicle for spreading truths and perspectives often overshadowed in mainstream narratives. Through these platforms, individuals from around the globe can connect, share resources, and mobilize for a cause that resonates deeply with many, illustrating the pivotal role of technology in contemporary activism.
What is the significance of Telegram in the context of the Palestinian cause?
Telegram plays a crucial role in the Palestinian cause by providing a space where activists can share real-time information about the situation on the ground, organize protests, and raise awareness about human rights violations. Its encrypted messaging system ensures that discussions can take place without the fear of censorship, a common issue on more traditional social media platforms. Additionally, Telegram’s channels allow for the broadcasting of messages to large audiences, making it an effective tool for mobilization.
Moreover, Telegram's multimedia capabilities enable the sharing of images, videos, and documents that can capture the reality of life in Palestine, thereby informing and influencing public opinion. Activists can use the platform to counter misinformation and provide a more nuanced narrative that reflects the complexities of the conflict, often overlooked in mainstream media coverage.
How does the Palestinian Lounge aim to spread awareness?
The Palestinian Lounge seeks to spread awareness by curating content that includes news articles, firsthand accounts, and multimedia that highlight the experiences of Palestinians. By maintaining a consistent flow of information, the Lounge creates a community of engaged individuals who can discuss and reflect on the information shared, fostering a deeper understanding of the issues at hand. The channel also encourages interaction, allowing subscribers to share their thoughts and perspectives, which can further amplify voices often marginalized in larger discussions.
In addition to sharing information, the Lounge also facilitates fundraising efforts and collaborative initiatives aimed at supporting Palestinian communities. By encouraging collective action and solidarity, Telegram channels like the Palestinian Lounge help to build a network of support that extends beyond virtual interactions, reminding participants of the real-world implications of their online activism.
What challenges do social media activists face when advocating for Palestine?
Activists advocating for Palestine face numerous challenges on social media, including censorship, misinformation, and the risk of being banned from platforms. Many social media companies have policies that may lead to the removal of content deemed controversial or inflammatory, which can hinder the ability to share vital information regarding the Palestinian experience. This censorship can lead to self-censorship among users who may be hesitant to share their views for fear of repercussions.
Additionally, misinformation campaigns targeting the Palestinian cause can significantly alter public perception and undermine activism. Activists must navigate these challenges by ensuring that they share credible information and work to debunk false narratives, which can be time-consuming and require a substantial understanding of the broader geopolitical context.
How can individuals support the Palestinian cause through social media?
Individuals can support the Palestinian cause through social media by following and sharing content from credible sources that highlight the situation in Palestine. Engaging with posts, whether through likes, shares, or comments, can help increase visibility and reach a wider audience. Additionally, individuals can participate in online campaigns, use hashtags to amplify messages, and encourage conversations about the Palestinian cause within their networks.
Moreover, supporting Palestinian businesses and initiatives online can offer tangible aid to communities in need. This could include sharing information about fundraising efforts, online shops, or organizations working directly with Palestinians, thereby creating a more substantial impact through social media engagement.
What role does storytelling play in the digital activism surrounding Palestine?
Storytelling is a powerful tool in digital activism, as it humanizes the experiences of individuals affected by the conflict in Palestine. By sharing personal narratives, activists can evoke empathy and understanding, encouraging readers to connect emotionally with the realities faced by Palestinians. This narrative approach can challenge stereotypes and combat the dehumanizing aspects often found in political discourse.
Furthermore, storytelling allows for a diverse range of voices to be heard, showcasing the multifaceted nature of the Palestinian experience. It emphasizes that behind political discussions are real people with stories, struggles, and dreams, thereby creating a more comprehensive understanding of the conflict. Platforms like Telegram facilitate these narratives by allowing individuals to tell their own stories directly to an audience, bypassing traditional gatekeepers.
