🇺🇸 ⚠️ 🌀 #Hurricane Helene has strengthened into a Category 2 storm with "significant additional strengthening expected" before it arrives along #Florida's Gulf Coast late Thursday night, the #UnitedStates National Hurricane Center said. @ourwarstoday

The NHC said in its 8 a.m. ET advisory Thursday that "preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to completion" in Florida Thursday in anticipation of the storm's arrival reports USA Today.

As of Thursday morning, Helene was located about 320 miles southwest of #Tampa, Florida and was moving toward the north-northeast near 12 mph, according to the hurricane center. This motion is expected to continue with a "significant increase in forward speed" during the next 24 hours.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 100 mph with higher gusts, the NHC said, and with additional strengthening forecast, Helene is expected to be a major hurricane upon its arrival in Florida's Big Bend coast.

Helene is forecast to move across the eastern #GulfofMexico Thursday and across the Florida Big Bend coast Thursday evening or early Friday morning, according to the NHC. Around 8-12 inches of rain are expected where Helene makes landfall with some isolated areas possibly facing 2 feet of rain, according to AccuWeather.

After landfall, the storm is expected to turn northwestward and slow down over the #Tennessee Valley on Friday and Saturday.

"Weakening is expected after landfall, but Helene's fast forward speed will allow strong, damaging winds, especially in gusts, to penetrate well inland across the southeastern United States, including over the higher terrain of the southern Appalachians," the center said in the advisory Thursday morning.

Helene's path includes urban areas like #Tallahassee, Florida, and #Atlanta, #Georgia, as well as Asheville, #NorthCarolina, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
---
BBC reported that: "The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said the hurricane was expected to strengthen rapidly, threatening to unleash catastrophic winds and storm surge to the north-eastern Gulf Coast.

Hurricanes need sea surface temperatures of more than 27C (80F) to fuel them. With exceptionally warm waters of the Gulf at 30-32C (86-89F), the sea surface is about two degrees Celsius above normal for the time of year.

This will supercharge Helene's development and bring about what meteorologists call "rapid intensification".

The National Weather Service office in Tallahassee said surges caused by the storm could reach a height of up to 6m (20ft) in Apalachee Bay in Florida. It described these potential surges as “catastrophic and unsurvivable” for anyone caught in them.

Storm surges can also be life-threatening further inland, when floodwaters move inland from the coastline.

At a news conference, the mayor of Tallahassee, Florida, also warned residents to be prepared.

"We have no more time left to wait," Mayor John Dailey said. "We urge you to stay weather aware as we’re on the verge of what could be… a historic event.”"
---
Winds of over 100 miles per hour, and an estimated massive storm surge of 15-20 feet, make this Hurricanes' potentiality for death and destruction great.

🇺🇸 🇺🇦 #NEW $8.3 Billion in U.S. Military Assistance to Ukraine Announced – $5.9 Billion Drawdown from Weapon Stocks and $2.4 Billion in Aid Through Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative Program, Bought From Companies: @ourwarstoday

WASHINGTON, Sept 25 (Reuters) - The #UnitedStates plans to announce more than $8 billion worth of military assistance for #Ukraine on Thursday during #Ukrainian President Volodymyr #Zelenskiy's visit to #WashingtonDC, two U.S. officials said on Wednesday.

President Joe #Biden's administration has been engaged in urgent discussions with Congress to allow it to use up $5.6 billion in military aid for Ukraine before Sept. 30 - the end of the federal fiscal year - when the authority was set to expire.

On Thursday, U.S. officials said, the #WhiteHouse intends to notify #Congress it will move forward with the announcement of a $5.6 billion drawdown from U.S. weapons stocks. The contents of that package are still in flux, the officials said.

Reuters reported this month that the Biden administration was considering a backup plan under which it would announce plans for shipments for Ukraine, but with an extended delivery timeline for the weapons and equipment, allowing for a more gradual transfer of resources to Ukraine without missing the Sept. 30 deadline.

A second announcement slated for Thursday will be for $2.4 billion worth of aid under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative program, which allows the administration to buy weapons for Ukraine from companies rather than pull them from U.S. stocks.

That aid will include munitions, weapons to combat drones and material to support munitions production in Ukraine, one of the U.S. officials said.

In addition, the U.S. announced on Wednesday $375 million worth of Presidential Drawdown Authority for Ukraine. The package will include the first shipment of a precision-guided glide bomb with a range of up to 81 miles (130 km) called the Joint Standoff Weapon, two U.S. officials said. The inclusion of that weapon was not disclosed in the announcement.

The package, which Reuters first reported on last week, includes patrol boats, additional ammunition for high-mobility artillery rocket systems (HIMARS), 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition, spare parts and other weapons.

The Joint Standoff Weapon would be dropped from fighter jets, and is capable of striking targets with high accuracy. Ukraine has been largely prohibited from using U.S.-supplied weapons in strikes into Russia.

Presidential Drawdown Authority allows the president to draw from current weapons stocks to help allies in an emergency. In August, as Ukraine was pressing an incursion into Russia and losing territory in its east to Russian advances, Washington announced two packages, both for $125 million each.

Congress has approved nearly $175 billion of aid and military assistance for Ukraine and allied nations in the 2-1/2 years since Russia's full-scale invasion, and many lawmakers say they expect Washington will need to approve more money to help the government in #Kyiv in the next several months.

U.S. companies that might benefit from increased weapons shipments to Ukraine include arms makers like RTX (RTX.N), Lockheed Martin (LMT.N), General Dynamics (GD.N), and Northrop Grumman (NOC.N).

🇺🇸 🇺🇦 🇷🇺 #NEW #Trump today on September 25th at a North Carolina press conference speaking on #Ukraine's existence: “Ukraine is gone. It’s not Ukraine anymore. You can never replace those cities and towns, and you can never replace the dead people, so many dead people,” Trump said. @ourwarstoday

“Any deal, even the worst deal, would have been better than what we have right now... If they made a bad deal, it would have been much better, they would have given up a little bit,” he continued.

“And everybody would be living, and every building would be built, and every tower would be aging for another 2,000 years.”

Trump then said more Ukrainian cities would fall to #Russia that “the ones that fell will continue to receive more and more bombs” unless Ukraine submits to Russia. “It [the war] didn’t need to happen,” he said. He also spoke on how he "got along very well with #Putin" during his 2016 presidency, and it was "good thing they had a relationship".

This came after earlier comments he made in the state of Georgia yesterday where he claimed he would end the Russo-Ukrainian War if elected as the #UnitedStates president, as well as complained about the amount of money Ukrainian President Zelenskiy's was rallying from the U.S., saying "everytime he walks away from here with $100 billion".

In his new conference he spoke further on #Zelenskiy, the war and how he would've prevented it, and how he spoke to "a lot" to Putin during his presidency, more comments in footage above.

🇺🇸 Former U.S. President Donald #Trump on the topic of World War 3, how he will prevent it, settle chaos in the Middle East, and bring an end to the Russo-Ukrainian War – as well as related comments on Joe #Biden and Kamala #Harris' involvement in the war and their inability to make peace, and on Ukrainian President #Zelenskiy's visit to the U.S. and accompanying $375 million announced U.S. aid to #Ukraine – from Tuesday at an election rally in the state of Georgia as part of his 2024 #UnitedStates presidential campaign as the current Republican candidate. @ourwarstoday

It should be noted Trump and Putin's relationship dates back a number of years, with Trump holding business ties and various personal, inpersonal, business, and political connections with the #RussianFederation as well as Russian politicians and businesses. This article from 2017 highlights some of it but also extrapolates a little too much on some points in my opinion, and makes some reaches, but still worth for the tangible info: https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/03/connections-trump-putin-russia-ties-chart-flynn-page-manafort-sessions-214868/

These comments by Trump today on September 25th at a North Carolina press conference fully illustrate his thoughts on Ukraine's existence: “Ukraine is gone. It’s not Ukraine anymore. You can never replace those cities and towns, and you can never replace the dead people, so many dead people,” Trump said.

“Any deal, even the worst deal, would have been better than what we have right now... If they made a bad deal, it would have been much better, they would have given up a little bit,” he continued.

🇮🇱💧🇱🇧 #Israeli hackers say they've compromised #Lebanese chlorine water filtration systems in the south of the country and near Beirut and have transferred control over to the IDF, saying also they "changed" the chlorine levels in 14 stations about 40 minutes ago but did not specify how they changed them, mentioning the use of chlorine in salt or as a "dangerous chemical weapon". The veracity of these claims has not been backed up or confirmed yet by any state or non-state bodies. @ourwarstoday

🇮🇱 🇱🇧 "Since launching its widespread airstrikes in #Lebanon yesterday morning, the #IDF says it has targeted some 400 medium-range rocket launchers, 70 weapon depots, and some 80 drones and cruise missiles reports TOI reporter Mannie Fabian:

They are among more than 1,500 #Hezbollah targets hit in some 200 different areas of Lebanon, the military says. Most of the strikes have targeted homes where Hezbollah had stored munitions, according to the IDF.

Over 250 fighter jets have participated in the strikes, dropping some 2,000 munitions, the military adds.

The IDF says it will continue to strike Hezbollah to destroy its capabilities and "change the security reality in the north."

More than 270 rockets have been fired from Lebanon at northern #Israel today, according to the IDF.

In the last few hours, several barrages were launched, including 35 at the Lower Galilee at around 2:50 p.m., 15 at the Haifa Bay area at 3:00 p.m., 10 at the Jezreel Valley at 3:15 p.m., five at the Golan Heights at 3:30 p.m., 40 at the Safed area at 3:45 p.m., 30 at the Western Galilee at 5:30 p.m., and another 30 at the Safed area not long after.

Overnight, Hezbollah fired some 20 rockets at the Jezreel Valley in several barrages. In the early morning hours it fired two rockets at Nahariya. And throughout the morning launched another 85 at several areas in northern Israel. Just after 1 p.m., five more rockets were launched toward Haifa." Via Mannie Fabian.

6 people were killed and 15 wounded from an Israeli strike an hour ago on #Beirut’s southern suburbs of Ghobeiry, according to #Lebanon's Health Ministry, #IDF says it was targeting a senior #Hezbollah commander, said to be Ibrahim Qubaisi by security sources reports news outlets. @ourwarstoday
---
Since yesterday, when the Israeli attacks began, 558 people have been killed, including at least 50 children and 94 women, with at least 1,835 people wounded, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.

Facing intensifying Israeli bombardments, tens of thousands of Lebanese have fled their homes, the United Nations has said, with many of the displaced seeking shelter even on the streets or roads where they ended up fleeing to.

UNICEF warned Tuesday that "any further escalation in this conflict would be catastrophic" for children and families in Lebanon, which it noted has already been "devastated by a protracted economic and political crisis; the massive Port of Beirut explosion," as well as the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic reported NBC.

Dozens of international flights have been canceled, and several airlines have suspended service to Beirut airport. The U.S. is reportedly deploying a few doezen troops to the ground to help evacuate U.S. citizens.

European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell warned that the situation in Lebanon was “extremely dangerous and worrying.” ‐ “I can say that we are almost in a full-fledged war,” he told reporters on Monday, according to Reuters. “If this is not a war situation, I don’t know what you would call it.”
