Ruling on Bringing Young Children to the Masjid

Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ al-ʿUthaymīn (رحمه الله) answered:

It is not permissible to bring young children to the Masjid if they will cause disturbance and confusion to those observing prayers.

The Prophet went out to his companions while they were praying and loud in their recitation and said, "Let not some of you raise their voices above others in the Qur'ān [or he said] in the recitation of the Qur'ān."

If disturbance is impermissible even in the loud recitation of the Qur'ān, then what about the playing of children?

However, if they would not be causing a disturbance, bringing them to the Masjid is better, as that will train them to attend the congregational prayer and encourage them to come to the Masjid so they become accustomed to it.

▪️ Allah named the Companions (Muhājirūn) the truthful.

"Such are indeed the truthful (to what they say)." [Al-Ḥashr :8]

▪️ And He named the Anṣār successful.

"And (it is also for) those who, before them, had homes (in Al-Madinah) and had adopted the Faith, love those who emigrate to them, and have no jealousy in their breasts for that which they have been given (from the booty of Banu An-Nadir), and give them (emigrants) preference over themselves even though they were in need of that. And whosoever is saved from his own covetousness, such are they who will be the successful." [Al-Ḥashr :9]

▪️ And He named us what?

"And those who came after them say: "Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith, and put not in our hearts any hatred against those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful." [Al-Ḥashr :10]

If we possess the attributes mentioned in the verse we will be shown kindness and mercy.

▪️ So there are three categories
- The truthful.
- The successful.
- Those upon whom kindness and mercy are shown.
