Btw, Cambridge/Oxford interviews are the craziest things.

Basically interrogated and debated on your beliefs and views. Ik how some interviewer for Cambridge tricked a student into supporting Nazis/fascists during their session. They’re technical interviews questioning ur knowledge.

ThePenguinRoom

Congrats Iroda(my cmuq mate) got into NYUAD 🥳

Joking.

Some “admissions counseling” said so. She never asked them, she never knew them, they never took consent, they just put random reasonable data for adds.

Symbols over the substance.

If you wana do business you can do it with integrity!

For anyone dealing with admissions, don’t be fooled by these “admissions guides”. Sit down and do your own research.

I'll highlight another one about Freshman:

"what stats are needed for freshman to accept us in admissions or full support?"

Imagine your application sorta like its own small college application. Ultimately, Freshman looks for what universities will want (aka, good people), so it's a holistic review.

Everything is a factor: personality, stats, story, and experiences. For the Admissions Program, it'll depend on how many spaces there are. Basics are you be proficient in English, have some good reasoning for why you want to study at a competitive US university, and what type of person you are (no one wants to accept someone bigoted, for example).

FS is the same but 100x more selective. Stats are a minimum, and you'll need a story, experiences, and abilities unique to you. We've rejected people with straight A*s and 1500s on the regular. But again, it's holistic, ik people accepted without those perfect stats but they always had smth

ThePenguinRoom

28 Jan, 18:10

I'll highlight one question:

"How did you first find about freshman? And how your journey as a mentor began there"

I took SAT courses with Jakob and Rustam (before he got into Yale). I was studying to get a 1450 for Turkey (BAU said youd get a full ride with a 1450) for dentistry actually. They then pushed me to do US and introduced me to Freshman

After I got Babson I taught IELTS at Freshman, then I expressed I wanted to do more writing and admissions work. Valera gave me an internship basically with two students where I worked on their cases. Both got in and eventually attended, so I moved into the admissions work.

Anyway, I'm really interested in religion and its influences (social, scientific, etc). Something about stories intertwining the divine always appealed to me. Maybe I'll try exploring that more at college

ThePenguinRoom

28 Jan, 15:20

We kinda see the pious people as inherently good, so when someone includes a few bismillahs or inshallahs in their speeches or posts we see them as better people often. Good strategy for those reasons.

But I think it’s used as that too often: a strategy, not always genuine. Even if it is genuine, it doesn't mean that person is "good" because they're seemingly god-fearing

ThePenguinRoom

28 Jan, 15:16

Anyway, religion pushed everything good/bad back then, so it isn't some negative force as much as christianity or organized religion is sorta villanized (or I don't think so).

I just think religions, including Islam btw, are often just used as justification by people. Be it charging people $69/consult or Manifest Destiny's case

Notice the 20 Class of 2030 Groups?

The Top-Uni-Admit elite are trying to control you.

Think about it, why would these people want to help you: these pragmatic, very busy university students who could be spending January with family or selling more consultations?

They want to control the applicants; they want to decide which of you get in, spreading misinformation as broad generic advice while showering their rich millionaire consultees with good tips.

These guys are the new-era Uzbek Bourgeoisie: they’re business people who will sabotage YOUR application if you join their groups, only you can stop this with my tips below:

Don't buy into the new illuminati! Instead of joining their groups where they'll lie to you, get a consultation with me for $270/hr and get into Narxoz on Full Funding.

Kinda annoyed at the small range of options beyond business at Babson

So imma take a course at Wellesley college, probably Russian as I wanna solidify my writing/reading ability in that.

Looking at the Wellesley registration options is so much fun I feel their courses r super interesting (the politics/history options)

Babson is a business school, and I’ll def be doing mostly that (esp finance and accounting) but I rlly want more options in other fields ngl

I was 12 when I first watched the 2016 elections between Trump and Clinton, but I didn’t really know anything in depth about either candidate.

Even now, I still don’t understand the details of their policies. But I noticed that people usually vote based on their feelings instead of specific issues. The election results ultimately reflect the overall feelings of the American population.

It’s funny that the candidates I support lose: Clinton in 2016, Trump in 2020, and now Kamala in 2024.

Overall, assumed I Business School would be easyy. I def have an easier time here than a nuclear engineering major, nothing feels impossible so far, I just know I can do better.

Btw reason I'm obsessed with grades is Law School. Aiming for a 3.9+ GPA (which is what I need)

ThePenguinRoom

27 Oct, 06:17

Worst feeling is to go from top of the class to very middle-of-the-pack. [Financial Accounting]

My financial accounting quiz average (20% of my grade) is about an 83%, the bare minimum for a B. I was aiming for 90s but it is what it is.

This is counting my last quiz which was 78%, the exact same as the class average for it (ik it was a harder one) but it still rlly annoys me be mediocre.

My last midterm was also around 78%, which was slightly above class average but point remains that I'm scraping around the vaerages.

I got one quiz, one midterm, and one final left. Midterm 2 and Final are worth 25-30% each of my grade. I need a 93+ in the class to get an A. Honestly, I'll be happy with an A-.

Overall, I know I can be top of the class, I answer the most and know this shit ain't super challenging it's just logic and technicalities (similar to my perception of law actually).

As soon as admissions is over, I'll never work this much while studying again. I don't think I'll ever quit admissions as I love the story-crafting and essay writing of it tho.

Controversial post by @Abdurajizu ))

ThePenguinRoom

25 Oct, 18:09

The past few weeks I went through quite a lot of personal statements and activity sections. Here’s the thing, i’m no expert on essays, but I could objectively tell that some essays weren’t good. Essays had nothing about the writer and were just achievements dumps, and activity descriptions were vague and sometimes even used politically incorrect language. Yet, i’m not writing this post to call out on people being “not good” at crafting applications. Nobody was good at anything in the beginning. My main point is, the writers aren’t the ones to blame for this.

Almost half of them had their essays and applications reviewed by “Ivy League mentors” and “full supports.” Ironically, all of them got amazing feedback from their mentors and were told to submit their applications.

People who are planning to apply, PLEASE be careful with who you hire as a “mentor” and who you get services from.

As far as I know, there’s only one “full support program” in Uzbekistan that know what they’re doing, and we all know who they are. Don’t waste your time and money on mentors who pop out of nowhere, and remember, whatever is provided by those fake gurus can be learned on Google and YouTube.

My daily controversy. Peace ✌️

Ngl I have a deep temptation to really study up on Uzbekistans politics and economics.

Never considered myself much of a patriot until the US ironically. But when trying to become more educated on US politics (in general this is smth I used to avoid) I kinda realized how interesting our politics are.

Although I don’t (and won’t) have much question on who wins our election, think it’s useful to understand our politics, policies, etc. maybe this is just a side effect from reading so many politcs/economics essays (yk who u are) but I def gotta dive into this

So College/Career Plans:

Plan A: Law School because I can explore legal, social, and corporate issues at a very high level. Can legit go into anything from immigration to corporate or political matters (a lot of the best presidents were lawyers).

Plan B: go into Accounting. I really love the sort of thinking (analytical/logical?) that goes into it and it feels super useful to the world. Babson is legit sponsored by some of the biggest accounting/consulting firms (PwC/EY/Deloitte) and generally jobs are easier to get in that field from Babson compared to other fields. (both A and B have nice earning potential)

Plan C: no clue lol. I'm open to looking into new business fields like Finance, Analytics, and other things but something inside me sorta resents Business as a field. Hard to explain, but it can kinda feel a little gross to me.

Issues: what I find to love most is writing. Narratives, textual analysis, etc all of these are super fun and generally I find I'm pretty good at it (at least at my lower level). Obviously though, I really don't wanna be one of those pretentious, depressed, and broke writiers.

I find Business a little weird on a deeper level but harder to explain, I don't actually have a thing against it I think? Might just be a bias from the books I've been reading. In any case, any field I go into I'd run my own thing anyway (that's what Babson is for)

Law School needs a high ass GPA, and I've not been doing the best (can still pull As tho). I think if I really apply myself it's def possible but it's a whole other admissions process. This is the ideal path to me tho.

So yeah

I’m very in between two ideas for my textual analysis.

Prof. Permitted my Kick Back analysis and even said he’d be interested in reading it (mentioned it in my other project work)

But my initial idea was doing an analysis of Foucault’s Discipline and Punish. It felt too daunting tho after I mentioned it to the prof, as this was a smaller essay ultimately and that book isn’t small.

But the prof gave me the idea of analyzing the Panopticon from the perspective of that reading, its way harder but more intellectual and challenging ig?

Yeah idk, I gotta submit a draft like tomorrow

ThePenguinRoom

Got 79% on my financial accounting exam, class average was 76% so A is looking more and more unlikely for the course.

Lowkey tempted to do a bs easy major now for the gpa.

This is 10% of my grade, next midterm will be another 10 and final will be 20 (not counting 5 quizzes which will also be 20%). I need 90+ for an A

Quiz average is 90 rn, if I get that and my participation + following exams up maybe the A is still doable

Oh I never posted this but I got a position at the Campus Activity Board!

Basically it’s the biggest club on campus and is responsible for what makes Babson fun (a fuck ton of events which we get funding for)

I applied for a finance assistant but got a position on the Events Committee instead after my interview which I’m happier with in retrospect. Basically, I’ll be one of the people making and handling campus events which are super important at Babson due to our smaller size.
