How a Scammer Almost Stole $50K USDT

Recently, a project approached me, eager to get listed on BingX. They claimed to have already received an offer from the exchange for $50K

At first glance, something felt off. BingX typically doesn’t quote such flat rates—listings usually involve a mix of tokens and USDT. This raised a red flag, so we decided to dig deeper

We turned to BingX’s official verification section to confirm the legitimacy of the representative. At first, everything seemed in order—the individual was listed as an official partner

But a closer look revealed a subtle discrepancy: the username was verified on Twitter, but not on Telegram. This small yet critical detail could easily be overlooked!

When we checked his X profile, we found his Telegram username listed there—and it didn’t match the one we had been communicating with. The scam was cleverly disguised, but the truth was in the details.

It’s a very good thing the project reached out to us before they paid the $50K USDT!

Always verify official contacts through trusted sources before making any payments to avoid falling victim to scams.

Scam Crypto Scheme Upbit

Yesterday, an interesting situation came up: one of our projects reached out and mentioned that Upbit had sent them an agreement and requested payment to get listed

Right away, this seemed strange to me, because usually Upbit doesn’t reach out to projects directly via email and Linkedln, and the requirements for listing are really high

The founder sent me the email they received and added me to the chat with “Upbit.” The email was from this email: [email protected]

There are a few steps to verify if a contact is legitimate or a scam

Typically, we would first go to the website and enter the email and username in a verification section, but Upbit doesn’t have such a section

So, I looked at the email more closely. It immediately seemed suspicious that they were asking for payment as soon as possible

Next, I decided to ask them a few clarifying questions in the chat. When I asked how I could verify them, they rudely replied that this had already been “checked” and asked us to at least pay 50% of the amount, with the rest due after listing

At this point, it was clear what was going on

However, I decided to ask them a few more questions. I sent them Upbit’s official Twitter account and asked if this was their Twitter. After that, they immediately deleted our chat

It was also funny that a “BD from Upbit” reached out to me on LinkedIn. After adding me to a Telegram chat, it turned out to be the same company

Be very careful! There are a lot of scammers in the crypto market, and most tier 1 exchanges don’t contact projects directly
