I will use Class 6F (a class that does not exist!) as an example. The total number of students registered for 6F is 30. At the moment, 24 (80%) are present in school and 6 are online. When the number present climbs to more than 90%, we will stop making videos in that class and all Google Meetings will stop. This means that if 27 students attend in 6F, the online system will stop for that class. WHATEVER happens, even if less than 27 students are present in class, the last videos will be posted on Monday 23DEC2024.

This will be the case for ALL classes.

Dear Friends, further to the announcement of the Minister of Education a few minutes ago, the school will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday 27NOV2024.

The teachers will NOT be providing teaching videos tomorrow.

Mr. Colin White

Grace and I, along with my Mum and John and Nigel, are broken-hearted to share with you the sad news that Dad passed away yesterday, Saturday 26OCT2024 at 7:05 am.

Colin and Joan White worked at this school from JUN1960 until their retirement in JUN2000. He was the legendary, outstanding Principal from 1968 until 2000.

He influenced generations and will be greatly missed.

Rest in peace our beloved Husband, Dad, Grandad and Great-Grandad. Rise in glory next to the Great King whom you loved and served.

Dear Parents and Students that are still online

I apologise for not writing this message earlier.

We have realised, after a significant amount of feedback from parents and students, that the Livestream (streaming a live class for all 6 hours) might not be the way to go at the moment. I should emphasize that it is my goal that this will happen eventually.

We have decided to VIDEO the live class on an hour by hour basis. We will attempt to post videos of the class as soon as it is finished on Google Classroom in the Topic “DailyVideos”. This will have the format of a link to the video for each lesson of the day. You will therefore hopefully be able to follow during the day as soon as the class finished. This means that by 08:50 am you might have a video to watch if everything goes well.

Within the near future we will arrange Zoom afternoon meetings with teachers at which you can ask questions you had about a certain lesson. Be sure to write them down as you move through the videos.

A few bus routes opening from tomorrow : Friday 18OCT2024

Tomorrow afternoon we will open bus routes to the following locations :

Loueizeh – Hazmieh – Fiyadiyeh – Dekwaneh – Mkalles – Qoubeh – Hammana – Chbaniyeh – Ras El Matn – Fallougha

If you have registered your child/ren on a bus to any of these locations, bring your child to school in the morning and in the afternoon the bus will return them home.

Please be ready for late arrival at home for the first 10 days as we sort out these bus routes.

Please note that no students will be able to ride on the bus unless they have signed the Bus Waiver Form. If you have already signed the School Waiver Form, a second signature is all that is needed. This form will be available outside the Senior Administration office tomorrow morning when you bring your children to school.

Dear Parents

You will be aware by this time, if your child is following online, that the livestreaming yesterday moved to recording/uploading videos. You will also be aware that not all videos were uploaded. We do NOT upload videos that we feel are technically substandard, and therefore many were not uploaded at all. Do not worry, your children will not have missed anything, we will be repeating all content that was taught on Wednesday 16OCT2024.

As a summary, we have been going 5 days so far this academic year :

Tomorrow, school will finish at 12:40 pm NOT at 1:30 pm. The day will consist of 5 teaching hours, not 6.

Tomorrow afternoon, teachers will prepare videos for online students that will cover all the NEW material that has been taught on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week. These videos will be posted in Google Classrooms.

We will probably be moving to a FIVE-hour timetable starting next week. Details and timetable to follow tomorrow. That means that school will finish at 12:40 pm starting from Monday 21OCT2024.

Collecting books for online students.

Dear Junior Parents, because of different requests we had so far for the students following the school program online, we have decided to prepare all the books, stationary and workbooks that are needed. They can be collected from the Junior Department (from the specific classrooms) on Friday 18OCT2024 between 2:00pm and 3:00pm. NOTE the collection that was scheduled for Wednesday 16OCT2024 will now no longer take place.

If you already sent a WhatsApp message requesting your child’s workbooks to be prepared, we are working on it.

If you did not send a WhatsApp message yet, and you will be following the livestream, and you wish to collect your child’s booklets, copybooks and textbooks, please make sure you send a written WhatsApp message on the school number, +961 71 183 559. In order to have time to prepare the books, the deadline for these messages will be Thursday 17OCT2024 at 11:00am.

Please note that this is applied only to Junior students and not infant students. For Infant students, everything that is needed will be sent to Google Classrooms.

Third day of school : Monday 14OCT2024

Dear Friends. I write this message with a heavy heart after a 40-hour weekend of desperately trying to rebuild our systems to be ready for online streaming today. I am assured by the IT department that by noon we will have sufficient resources freed to start to roll out a number of classes. I have heard that message before and nothing has come of it, so I am treating it with caution.

Some details :
1 : Everything that is taught in class while there is no livestream will be retaught.
2 : We are working as hard as is humanly possible to get this system off the ground.
3 : I know that these past three days (including today) have been extremely frustrating. They will pass. Even a journey of a 1000 miles starts with a single step.
4 : We will make up all lost days by cutting out holidays.
5 : Most of the books that are required this year are on Google Classroom.
6 : Next week we are preparing to hand out all textbooks and copybooks for Junior Department students that are following online. We will inform you presently of details about how this will work. However, in the meantime, if you want to collect the photocopied workbooks for your children you can do so. You can collect all WORKBOOKS from school between 8:00 am and 12:00 noon as long as you have informed us by WhatsApp [71 183 559] 24 hours before you intend to collect. Friday 11OCT2024 : Second Day of school

Today, Friday 11OCT2024, there will be no livestream due once again to technical issues. Teachers have been instructed NOT to teach new material today, but to revise material that was covered last year. IF they cover any new material today, it will be re-taught on Monday 14OCT2024.

Thursday 10OCT2024 : First Day of school : Important notes

1 : There will be no livestreaming of any classes today, Thursday 10OCT2024. There WILL be teaching in the classroom. This is due to a technical problem.

2 : School starts at 07:40 am and finishes at 01:30 pm. Six teaching sessions of 50 minutes each, 2 breaks of 15 minutes each.

Summary :

Wednesday 09OCT2024 : Parents will come to sign the waiver form that will allow their children to enter school starting on Thursday 10OCT2024.

Thursday 10OCT2024 and Friday 11OCT2024 : School will start using the Hybrid Online School System for Classes 9, 10, 11 and 12. Nursery, LKG, UKG and Junior 1 will come in their Group A/B at the times originally posted. Group A from 08:00 – 09:30 am. Group B from 10:00 – 11:30 am. The school day (for a normal school day) will last from 07:40 am until 1:30 pm compromising 6 hours. A timetable will be published tomorrow. Details in the video.

Monday 14OCT2024 : Classes Nursery, LKG, UKG and Junior 1 will be at school for a full day. Classes 6 to 8 will join in the Senior Department and Juniors 4 and 5 will join in the Junior Department.

Tuesday 15OCT2024 : Juniors 2 and 3 join and the entire school is present or online.

NOTE : The signing of the waiver form (a PDF is attached) is happening tomorrow, Wednesday 09OCT2024. There will be 5 classrooms manned by teachers giving out forms that you need to sign. This will allow your child to enter school IN PERSON. If you want your child to start school online, you do NOT need to sign the form now, you can sign it later.

Dear Friends. I realise that the Minister of Education is due to speak tomorrow at 12:00 noon about this coming week and about the forthcoming academic year in general.

Whatever he says, as a school, we cannot start on Monday 07OCT2024. We have had a serious problem with our internet connection at the school since Friday 04OCT2024 and have been unable to set up and test our Hybrid systems.

We have 87 different classrooms that we will be broadcasting from once our system is up and running. I need at least two days of full Internet to be able to get the laptops and associated software and hardware ready for this huge operation.

Even if I am ready to start on Wednesday 09OCT2024, there are many other factors that will affect whether we open or not. I must admit to feeling guilty rushing into starting the school year when so many of our families have suffered great loss and been pushed from their houses.

I am well aware that even with our livestreaming of classes, many students do not have the equipment or Internet connection to be able to attend even virtually. We need to work on a solution and work out how we can help in these very difficult circumstances.

The system that we are going to use of Hybrid Livestreaming is the nearest I think we can come to saving this academic year for all concerned. If some students are able to get to school, they are more than welcome to attend classes. For those students for whom this will be an impossibility, the livestreaming of classes (which will be automatically recorded and available for watching later) will be very useful.

Nothing we do will be perfect. We need to support each other during this terrible time and put the children first.

The start may be a staggered start where we begin with the exam classes for a couple of days and then add other classes when and as we can.

Collecting your books : Important points

ONE
If you are in Classes 10A 11A 12A 12M 12E, please bring all the books back that you were given during EarlyStart. We will process them and then put them in a complete book bag and give them back to you. This process will take about 2 hours. You can wait OR you can give your books in and then come and collect the bag when you come to school on Monday. NOTE all these classes have already taken their Stationary Bags I believe. I might be wrong.

TWO
Class 12SE do NOT need to attend today as they have already been given both their book bags

THREE
All books are on the Chapel / Library floor level. As we expect a HUGE number of people to come today, please be very patient. This will NOT be quick. You will be given TWO bags, one with stationary (copybooks etc) and one with textbooks. In BOTH these bags there are pieces of paper that indicate what WE think are in the bags. PLEASE check that we have it right, make any changes that you think need to be made, put your username on the paper, sign the paper, give it back to the teacher and then leave with your two bags. The checking and signing is the VITAL thing this morning.

FOUR
All stationary bags are in the Library, you can access them via the WINDOWS of the Library. Take your bag, check the paper, sign it and return it to the teacher with your USERNAME on it.

FIVE
SSG students do NOT need to collect their bags today. We will inform you of when that will happen.

SIX
Students of all Small Group classes will NOT be given any books today. We will inform you of when that will happen.

SEVEN
As we go Hybrid on Monday 07OCT2024, we will slowly but surely put all books online in PDF format in Google Classroom. If you are thinking of travelling, PLEASE do NOT take your books with you as you have no idea when you will be back and the books are very, very expensive. Rather, use the PDF versions that we provide in Google Classroom.

Collection of Books : Thursday 03OCT2024

As previously promised, we will be opening the school tomorrow for the collection of stationary and books by all SENIOR students that are able to make it. At the moment, we will not be giving books to the Junior and Infant Department students. We will communicate further on that during the next two weeks.

The school will be open from 08:00 until 12:00 noon.

If your FamilyCode starts with any letter between A and K inclusive, please try to attend between 08:00 am and 10:00 am. If your FamilyCode starts with any letter between L and Z inclusive, please try to attend between 10:00 am and 12:00 noon.

We will not be able to give books out after 12:00 noon tomorrow because we will all be in a meeting about the Hybrid start on Monday 07OCT2024. If you cannot collect the books tomorrow, you can collect them when the school is open, starting next Monday. You will not be able to collect them on Friday 04OCT2024, unfortunately.

On the afternoon of Saturday 05OCT2024 there will be a video posted about how the Hybrid will work in detail. If you have any questions that you particularly want answered, please send them now to 71 183 559, and they will collect and give them to me, so I can address them in my video.

Going forward : the next seven days

Further to the request of the Minister of Education that all schools remain completely closed until Monday 07OCT2024 and the declared three days of mourning, we are delaying the start of ALL our Hybrid classes until Monday 07OCT2024, even the A Level classes. It might be that we will ask some students to test out our system with an online presence on Thursday or Friday of this week. Watch this space for details.

We will probably be giving books out to all students that can get to school to take them on Thursday and Friday this week. Details to follow.
