Tether’s $750mm in Rumble looks like Paolo being Howard Lutnick’s useful idiot/piggy bank.

Rumble went public via a SPAC merger with CF Acquisition VI, a Cantor SPAC. So Cantor got fees and Rumble shares back then.

Rumble stock has not done great, down ~50% from its ‘22 high and guess who Rumble’s biggest shareholder is? Cantor Fitzgerald with just under 8% of RUM worth ~$67mm

And most of the Tether investment isn’t going into Rumble’s business. Of the $750mm $500mm is being used by Rumble to buy shares back from existing holders.

No details yet on the tender process, but little doubt that Cantor will use this to get out of a chunk of his stake.

And as a kicker, Cantor was the advisor to Tether on this investment and will get fees for that

To recap: Cantor created the SPAC, merged it with Rumble, ended up being Rumble’s biggest shareholder, Rumble have underperformed, now Howard advised Tether to invest in Rumble, but 2/3s isn’t really an investment but a liquidity exit for shareholders, so Cantor will be able to get out of some of its position and earn a advisory fee in the process
