Examples:
大変 [たいへん] very, or greatly (you might have heard it as "there's some trouble", though it's probably meant as "there's big trouble", however, in japanese the subject is often dropped, and inferred through context)
大きな [おおきな] big, used as a "-na" adjective, for example, 大きな声 [おおきなこえ] "loud voice" or "big voice"

大好き [だいすき] loveable, very likeable (that's right, this is an adjective, you don't tell someone you "like them", you tell them "they are your liked person")
