Maori Haka 🎎

✅ Context: Maori MPs in New Zealand performed Haka in Parliament in protest of a contentious Bill.

1. Haka is a traditional dance form of Maori people - the indigenous Polynesian inhabitants of Aotearoa (the Maori name for New Zealand).
2. It is traditionally performed by warriors on the battlefield or to welcome another tribe. It is a show of physical prowess but also an embodiment of cultural pride, strength, and unity.
3. It is usually performed in a group and involves chanting, dramatic facial gestures, hand movements, and stamping the feet.
4. Beyond warfare, the haka also serves as a means of storytelling, a way to express communal grievances, celebrate triumphs, or honour ancestors. The chants, or waiata, convey deep messages about Maori heritage, values, and connection to the land.
5. Haka is not a single dance but group of Dance performances such as Ka Mate, Peruperu, Ngeri, Pōwhiri, Manawa-wera etc.

Unhealthy Diets and Rising burden of NCDs in India. 🍟🍩🍕🤒🤕

- In India, NCDs like heart disease, cancer, respiratory problems, and diabetes (highest prevalence globally) are leading causes of death, making up almost 50% of all deaths.
- A large chunk of the NCD burden has to do with diets changing over the past few decades and becoming unhealthier.
- Economic Survey of India 2023-24 noted that 56.4% of the total disease burden in India is due to unhealthy diets.
- The ICMR report showed that the upsurge in the consumption of highly processed foods, laden with sugars and fat, coupled with reduced physical activity and limited access to diverse foods, exacerbate micronutrient deficiencies and overweight/obesity problems.
- Another significant issue here is affordability: as per UN data over 50% of Indians cannot afford a healthy diet.
- At the same time, Indian government data reveals that households’ expenditure on processed food as a proportion of their food expenditure has risen.

1️⃣ - Separation of power
2️⃣ - Fundamental Right to Shelter
3️⃣ - Collective Punishment

1- Separation of power: Executive taking over judiciary's role in deciding penalty.

2- Right to Shelter: Right to shelter is a Fundamental Right under Article - 21. FR of other family members of the house is violated when a house is demolished.

3- Collective Punishment: Criminal responsibility can only be attributed to Individuals. Demolishing houses for a crime of one member amounts to collective punishment which is prohibited under Geneva Convention. (Collective Punishment is a war crime under Geneva Convention)

I've found out that a few members of this channel are downloading these newspapers and sharing them in their own paid groups, charging a monthly fee of ₹20-50. Very bad. Any money made from these newspapers should go only to the publishers. How can you charge money for something that isn’t yours? Please don’t do this. I hate banning or blocking my own people—I prefer to focus on the good in you all. There are plenty of legitimate ways to make money—how about studying sincerely and getting a job, eh? 😄

✅ Ossification Test was recently seen in news.

🦴 What is an Ossification Test❓

- It is a medical procedure that analyses bones in order to determine age of a person. The test is based on the fact that bones grow and harden (ossify) at predictable rates during different stages of life.

How it works ❓

- X-rays of specific bones (like the wrist, hand, pelvis, or collarbone) are taken to observe the growth plates and bone fusion, which can indicate the individual's developmental stage. These bones are analyzed because they have distinct growth plates (epiphyses) that ossify (fuse) at predictable ages. For instance, wrist bones are often used because they ossify between the ages of 12 and 16.

How accurate ❓

- While it provides a good estimate of age, the test has limitations due to factors such as genetics, nutrition, and overall health that can affect bone development.

One of the aspects of answer writing that some aspirants often neglect, or may not even be aware of, is readability.

What is that?

Well, it refers to the ease with which you can read a piece. It’s not just about presentation—like adding diagrams, bullet points, or fancy boxes. All of that is fine. But choosing better language, appropriate words, smooth sentence structure, and correct grammar to provide a seamless reading experience is equally essential. Good writing is like a river—it flows effortlessly, carrying the reader along with its current. And once you’ve got the examiner flowing, you don’t want to break their flow, do you?

📰 After the recent MPC meeting, RBI has shifted the Policy stance to "Neutral"

Well, what does it mean ❓

- Policy stances are indications for market as in what to expect in future.

- Neutral stance means the twin objective of MPC i.e. Inflation and Growth are almost balanced. So the RBI can take any action in future i.e. it can increase interests rates (to tame inflation) or cut rates (to support growth). Both options are open.

Other stances:

- Accommodative: To support growth, inflation is not a concern, can cut the Interest rates.
- Hawkish: To tame inflation, growth is not aimed at the moment, interest rates are hiked.
- Calibrated Tightening: Similar to Hawkish, aims are same, just it is done very gradually and systematically.
