I have just learned you need to cover the trays to give the seeds a dark period. This can last 2 days to several, mimicking being under soil to aid the gemination rate. I put towel over the trays to help out. Some people even put 5-10lbs of weight on top of the seeds using the tray lids or pieces of plastic. This supposedly causes better anchoring to the grow paper, hydropads, etc. Not sure I want to do that so will see how it goes without.

And done. A lot harder to get even lines than one would think. I should have also filled them with their water/fertilizer after going back in the tent. The sloshing around slightly moves seeds. Kid enjoyed it and all the different textures the seeds had when wet. Arugula after being soaked feels like frog eggs and move similarly. The other seeds were just wet seeds. Oh, these things germinate fast. Had tails on a lot of seeds just from soaking since the morning.

I should mention by not as efficient I mean more wattage will go directly to heat than photons to the leaves.

Here is a Samsung performance chart ACI put out. You don't have to chase the higher end diodes as Samsung's are all pretty efficient. I don't think the EVO ones are worth the price but if you have the money go for it. But as you can see there isn't a huge difference unless you are going to have several lights then it adds up.

The single most important thing if you decide to grow herbs, veggies, or naughty weeds at home indoors is to invest in a good LED grow light. Do not skimp on lighting. Try to find something using Samsung diodes, preferably LM301H diodes but LM301B/D are fine too. 2835/3030 diodes are cheaper and acceptable if on a budget.

Recommended brands:
HLG, AC Infinity, Hyphotonflux, Spider Farmer, Mars Hydro/Vivosun. Listed as expensive to cheaper but most are similar in pricing. HLG is a commercial brand but sells to individuals.

Budget Brands:
Viparspectra, Aglex, Szhlux

These likely won't have Samsung diodes so not as efficient.

Do not pay attention to equivalent wattage but what the wattage draw is from the outlet. Don't get blurple lighting (the blinding purple lights).

Microgreens are soaking. Hoping to get them in their trays and make it a family thing with the wife and kiddo tonight.
