VETERANS DAY NOVEMBER 11, 2021 MESSAGE TO ALL
To understand a Military Veteran you must know:
1.We left home as teenagers or in our early twenties for an unknown adventure.
2. We loved our country enough to defend it and protect it with our own lives.
3. We said goodbye to friends and family and everything we knew.
4. We learned the basics and then we scattered in the wind to the far corners of the Earth.
5. We found new friends and new family.
6. We became brothers and sisters regardless of color, race or creed.
7. We had plenty of good times, and plenty of bad times.
8. We didn’t get enough sleep.
9. We smoked and drank too much (maybe a few too many drinks, on my part, but never a smoke or chew, and the drinking never got out of hand, thankfully).
10. We picked up both good and bad habits.
11. We worked hard and played harder.
12. We didn’t earn a great wage.
13. We experienced the happiness of mail call and the sadness of missing important events.
14. We didn’t know when, or even if, we were ever going to see home again.
15. We grew up fast, and yet somehow, we never grew up at all.
16. We fought for our freedom, as well as the freedom of others.
17. Some of us saw actual combat, and some of us didn’t.
18. Some of us saw the world, and some of us didn’t.
19. Some of us dealt with physical warfare, most of us dealt with psychological warfare.
20. We have seen and experienced and dealt with things that we can’t fully describe or explain, as not all of our sacrifices were physical.
21. We participated in time honored ceremonies and rituals with each other, strengthening our bonds and camaraderie
22. We counted on each other to get our job done and sometimes to survive it at all.
23. We have dealt with victory and tragedy.
24. We have celebrated and mourned.
25. We lost a few along the way.
26. When our adventure was over, some of us went back home, some of us started somewhere new and some of us never came home at all.
27. We have told amazing and hilarious stories of our exploits and adventures.
28. We share an unspoken bond with each other, that most people don’t experience, and few will understand.
29. We speak highly of our own branch of service, and poke fun at the other branches.
30. We know however, that, if needed, we will be there for our brothers and sisters and stand together as one, in a heartbeat.
Being a Veteran is something that had to be earned, and it can never be taken away. It has no monetary value, but at the same time it is a priceless gift.
People see a Veteran and they thank them for their service. When we see each other, we give that little upwards head nod, or a slight smile, knowing that we have shared and experienced things that most people have not.
So, from myself to the rest of the veterans out there, I commend and thank you for all that you have done and sacrificed for your country. Try to remember the good times and make peace with the bad times. Share your stories. But most importantly, stand tall and proud, for you have earned the right to be called a Veteran.

Flying taxi
I am sure everyone has seen the Fifth Element movie. Remember all those taxis casually flying around the cities? Well, it seems that we all have a chance to see something similar in real near-future life.
Airbus has just revealed its brand-new flying taxi called the CityAirbus NextGen.
NextGen looks like a helicopter, only with a fixed set of wings and a V-shaped tail. It has room for 4 passengers and fully-electric 8-propeller propulsion system. Since it will be flying around areas where people work and live, the vehicle will produce sound levels below 65 dB during flight and 70 dB during landing.
The plane can be piloted remotely and will have a range of 80 km (50 mi) at a top speed of 120 kph (75 mph). It is more than fast enough to get you around town since you get to skip over any car traffic.
Airbus hopes to build the flight prototype by 2023. So do not be surprised to be flying an Airbus taxi for your trip's final leg before the decade is out.

Freshwater for 2.1 billion people
2.1 billion people globally are struggling to access safe drinking water. Desalination (obtaining freshwater for human consumption from seawater) may be the answer to long-term water security.
However, the existing solutions are expensive and energy-intensive. They also require connection to the electricity grid, which is often inaccessible in isolated regions.
The good news is that scientists are developing some viable solutions.
The two revolutionary methods are microbial desalination cells (MDC) and a wave-driven desalination system.
1) MDC uses electro-active bacteria to treat wastewater and simultaneously produce enough energy to remove the salt content in seawater without external energy input. With this innovative tech, desalination is becoming a viable low-cost solution for water resources in many world areas, removing water scarcity.
2) A wave-driven desalination system uses Wave Energy Converter (WEC). It extracts energy from the waves. This energy is used to pressurize seawater sent to the shore to drive a conventional desalination system. Ocean waves alone produce fresh water without requiring any additional source of energy such as electricity. The WEC can be deployed quickly, operate completely off-grid and supply large quantities of fresh water at a competitive cost.

Most people may think of electric bikes as purely recreational. However, they have also proven themselves as commuter vehicles. Not only do e-bike riders often outpace traffic, but they reduce everyone's wait by taking cars off crowded urban streets.
A Dutch electric bicycle brand VanMoof is making the next step in replacing cars as the dominant city transport. They have just announced a new high-speed electric bicycle model known as the VanMoof V, which will reach speeds of up to 31 mph (50 km/h). The company is referring to it as a “hyperbike.”
To reach that high top speed VanMoof has opted for two motors, one for each wheel. An intelligent controller will “enhance traction for safety and performance.”
Other tech features will include full suspension, automatic shifting, theft deterrence via GPS tracking, and the Kick Lock that allows riders to lock their bikes without a key.
The price has already been set at $3,598. The company expects to begin deliveries by the end of next year.

Qwake Technologies, a startup based in San Francisco, is upgrading the game. Their AR headset named C-THRU is attached to the responder's helmet. The device scans surrounding and uploads environmental data to the cloud, allowing all responders and commanders to have one common picture. The goal is to improve situational awareness and increase the effectiveness of firefighters, minimizing potential injuries and casualties.
The company has just raised about $5.5 million in financing and has already secured contracts with the Department of Homeland Security. The firefighters in several states are testing the device. A public release is planned for the end of the year.
