A member of the US Federal Reserve Board of Governors, Lisa Cook, said on Monday that the bank can be cautious regarding any additional interest rate cuts, given the strength of the economy and the stability of inflation at higher levels than previously expected.
In remarks delivered by Cook at the University of Michigan Law School, she said: "Since the Federal Reserve began cutting the benchmark interest rate in September, the labor market has shown greater resilience, while inflation has remained more stable than I expected at the time. Therefore, I believe that we can take a more cautious approach with future cuts."
The Federal Reserve has cut the benchmark interest rate by a full percentage point during its last three meetings in 2024, but it is expected to maintain the current interest rate range between 4.25% and 4.5% at its next meeting scheduled for January 28 and 29.

Shares of Tullow Oil, jumped over 14% on Friday after the West Africa-focused company was exempted from a $320 million tax on its Ghana operations.
The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) ruled that the Branch Profit Remittance Tax (BPRT) does not apply to the firm's operations in the Deepwater Tano and West Cape Three Points fields offshore Ghana, Tullow said on Thursday.
Tullow has been struggling to pull up its profits after troubling performance at its flagship Jubilee field, which is one of Ghana's major oil fields.

BITCOIN LOSES MORE THAN 9% OF ITS VALUE, EXPECTS MORE… AND CRYPTOCURRENCIES ARE ON A MASSIVE RALLY
The cryptocurrency market has seen a sharp decline over the past week, with Bitcoin (BTC) falling by more than 9% to currently trade at $95,114.2, the biggest drop since August. This decline was driven by the Federal Reserve’s signals about reducing the number of interest rate cuts expected next year, in addition to its confirmation that institutions will not be allowed to hold Bitcoin and that there is no intention to change this law.

MORGAN STANLEY: HERE’S WHAT YOU SHOULD DO WITH NVIDIA STOCK IN 2025
Morgan Stanley maintained its view of Nvidia as a top pick for 2025, reiterating its Overweight rating with a $166 price target.
While there are some near-term concerns about Nvidia, such as a slowdown in Hopper chip builds and a gradual readiness for Blackwell’s product variants, the Morgan Stanley team views these issues as temporary.
By the second half of 2025, Blackwell’s strength will be “the only theme,” analysts led by Joseph Moore said in a note.
On the competition front, Morgan Stanley addresses concerns about ASIC encroachment, particularly from Marvell and Broadcom. However, the bank believes that the largest ASIC users will see a shift in purchasing toward GPUs.
