CDDT 1, Cohort 20 Application (Ethiopians Only)

Are you passionate about drone technology and data analysis? The African Drone and Data Academy (ADDA) invites young Ethiopian citizens (aged 18-24) to join its initial cohort. This UNICEF-sponsored academy, operated in partnership by Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), Furman University (USA), and Addis Ababa Institute of Technology (AAiT) in Ethiopia, aims to equip youth with 21st-century skills.

The Certificate of Drone & Data Technology Level 1 (CDDT 1) is a 6 week online course that is divided into 3 modules as follows:

1. Data Module- The first 3 weeks cover data analysis; GIS fundamentals, data types & co-ordinate systems, multispectral sensing, introduction to computer vision and machine learning, advanced spatial analysis methods and data ethics, etc. Different mapping applications e.g., agriculture, disease control, emergency response, flood modelling, infrastructure management etc.

2. Drone Module- In the 4th & 5th week, students are introduced to unmanned aerial systems; flight physics, aircraft performance, propulsion systems, aerostructures, payloads, flight operations, wireless communications etc., will be covered.

3. EASA A1/A3 Remote Pilot License (RPL) Certification: In the final week (week 6), we offer an optional module that builds upon the foundational knowledge gained from the drone module. The module focuses on attaining the EASA A1/A3 RRL, a certification that authorizes individuals to operate drones under the A1/A3 Open Sub Category in European Union (EU) Countries

In addition to the 3 main modules, students participate in an entrepreneurship / innovation workshop that equips them with knowledge to start their own businesses in the drone & data industry.

CDDT Level 1 graduates receive:
*CDDT Level 1 Certificate issued by Virginia Tech, Furman University, and Addis Ababa Institute of Technology (AAIT)
*Trusted Operator Program (TOP) Level 1 Certificate issued by AUVSI
*An A1/A3 Open Sub Category  Remote Pilot License (RPL) issued by European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)
Note - The ADDA is currently the only TOP training provider outside the USA
