Conjunctions الروابط
1) and و
تربط جملتين بحيث تكون الجملتين متشابهتين ونفس الزمن.
I went to the cinema. I saw the film.
I went to the cinema and saw the film.
2) or أو
Study your lessons. I shall be angry with you.
Study your lessons or I shall be angry with you.
3) but ولكن
He has much money. He does not buy any books.
He has much money but he does not buy any books. لاحظ التناقض بين الجملتين
4) either………or إما..........أو
He works hard. He will fail.
Either he works hard or he will fail.
5) both………and كلاً من......... و
Mona is clever. Hoda is clever, too.
Both Mona and Hoda are clever. يلاحظ تغيير الفعل إلي حالة الجمع عند الربط
6) and neither وكذلك لا / and nor وكذلك لا يكون
تستعمل لربط جملتين منفيتين . وتوضع قبل الجملة الثانية ويأتي بعدها استفهام صوري (بدون وضع علامة استفهام) مع ضرورة إلغاء
صورة النفي في الجملة الثانية لأن neither وحدها تنفي. ويلاحظ أنه بعد كلمة neither يوضع الفعل المساعد في حالة الإثبات ثم يوضع
بعد فاعل من صنف الفاعل الأول.
The bread is not fresh. The milk is not fresh.
The bread is not fresh and neither is the milk.
She doesn't get up early. Her brother doesn't get up early.
She doesn't get up early and nor does her brother.
7) and so وكذلك
تستعمل لربط جملتين مثبتتين
Heba can read English. Hoda can read English.
Heba can read English and so can Hoda.
8) neither………nor لا.......... ولا
a. Samy does not play football well. Ramzy does not play football well.
Neither Samy nor Ramzy plays football well.
b. Zaki does not go to school. His brothers do not go to school.
Neither Zaki nor his brothers go to school.
* لاحظ أن neither…nor تستخدم في ربط جملتين منفيتين وأنه يأتي بين neither و nor صفة أو اسم وقد يأتي بينهما فعل. مثل:-
He neither ate nor drank.
الجملة السابقة تصبح علي شكل استفهام لو جاءت neither في بدايتها. مثل:-
Neither did he eat nor drink.
* لاحظ أن الفعل يتبع الفاعل الأخير. وقد تستخدم nor ………neither مع الصفة. مثل:-
1- Samy is neither too fat nor too thin.
2- Hoda is neither too tall nor too short.
3- This room is neither too big nor too small.
9) When / Whenever عندما
You can visit me. You like.
You can visit me whenever you like.
He saw me. He welcomed me.
When he saw me, he welcomed me.
You will find me whenever you come.
She takes rest whenever she feels tired.
Study your lessons whenever you like.
10) while بينما
I was playing. It rained.
While I was playing, it rained.
11) as بينما / لأن
We were writing the lesson. The teacher came.
a. As we were writing the lesson, the teacher came.
I cannot buy the book. I have not money.
b. I cannot buy the book as I have no money.
12) after بعد
I went out. I had finished my work.
I went out after I had finished my work.
13) before قبل = By the time
I ate my breakfast. I had washed.
Before I ate my breakfast, I had washed.
14) till / until حتى
I shall wait at home. He comes.
I shall wait at home till (until) he comes.
15) as soon as بمجرد أن
As soon as Past Simple ماضي بسيط, Past Simple ماضي بسيط
The pupils saw the teachers. They entered the classes.
As soon as the pupils saw the teachers, they entered the classes.
As soon as Present Simple مضارع بسيط, Future Simple مستقبل بسيط
He finishes his homework. He plays chess.
As soon as he finishes his homework, he will play chess.
16) since / منذ حيث أن
I have not seen him. He came.
a. I have not seen him since he came.
I do not like the puppets. I will not go to the theatre.
b. Since I do not like the puppets, I will not go to the theatre.
17) where حيث / wherever أينما
a. The child goes wherever his mother goes.
b. I go to an art school where I learn how to draw.
c. There is a new club in our town where we spend our free time there.
d. Sit wherever you like.

18) because لأن
