โ๐ผAlso known as helping verbs.
โ๐ผUsed with a main verb to form a verb phrase, indicating tense, mood, voice, or aspect.
โ๐ผ They do not carry the main meaning of the sentence on their own but assist the main verb.
Auxiliary Verbs:
1. Be: am, is, are, was, were
2. Have: have, has, had
3. Do: do, does, did
4. Modal Verbs: can, could, may, might, must, shall, should, will, would
Examples:
1. Be:
She is writing a letter. (Present continuous)
They were dancing. (Past continuous)
2. Have:
I have finished my homework. (Present perfect)
She had left before I arrived. (Past perfect)
3. Do:
Do you like chocolate? (Question formation)
He does not know the answer. (Negative sentence)
4. Modal Verbs:
You must study for the test.
She can swim well.
