Oil prices went slightly up on Tuesday, trading within a narrow range, as traders awaited the outcome of an OPEC+ cartel meeting later this week.

Brent crude futures were up 0.19 per cent, at $71.97 a barrel, after a 1-cent drop in the previous session.

U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude climbed 0.12 per cent, to $68.18.

Turkish Inflation Slows To 47.1 Per Cent

Turkey’s annual inflation rate slowed for the sixth month in a row in November, official data showed.

Consumer prices rose by 47.1 per cent last month, down from 48.6 per cent in October, according to the Turkish statistics agency.

It had peaked at 85.525 per cent in May 2022 and peaked again at 75.45 per cent in May this year but has reversed course after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reversed his controversial policy of tackling inflation with low interest rates.

Its main interest rate has been kept at 50 per cent for the past eight months.

Apple Accused Of Silencing Workers, Conducting Surveillance On Personal Devices

Apple has been accused in a new lawsuit of illegally monitoring its workers’ personal devices and iCloud accounts while also barring them from discussing their pay and working conditions.

The complaint filed in California state court on Sunday by Amar Bhakta, who works in digital advertising for Apple, claims the company requires employees to install software on personal devices that they use for work allowing Apple to access their email, photo libraries, health and “smart home” data and other personal information.

At the same time, the lawsuit alleges, Apple imposes confidentiality policies that prohibit employees from discussing working conditions, including with the media, and engaging in legally-protected whistleblowing.

Mr. Bhakta, who has worked for Apple since 2020, says he was barred from talking about his work on podcasts and instructed to remove information about his working conditions from his LinkedIn profile.

“Apple’s surveillance policies and practices chill, and thus also unlawfully restrain, employee whistleblowing, competition, freedom of employee movement in the job market, and freedom of speech,” the lawsuit said.

Apple in a statement provided by a spokesperson said the claims in the lawsuit lack merit and that its workers are trained annually on their rights to discuss their working conditions.

Apple is also facing at least three complaints from a U.S. labor board.

Delaware Judge Reaffirms Ruling That Invalidated Massive Tesla Pay Package For Elon Musk

Chancellor Kathaleen St. Jude McCormick on Monday denied a request by attorneys for Musk and Tesla’s corporate directors to vacate her ruling earlier this year requiring the company to rescind the unprecedented pay package.

McCormick also rejected an equally unprecedented and massive fee request by plaintiff attorneys, who argued that they were entitled to legal fees in the form of Tesla stock valued at more than $5 billion. The judge said the attorneys were entitled to a fee award of $345 million.

The rulings came in a lawsuit filed by a Tesla stockholder who challenged Musk’s 2018 compensation package.

The judge noted, among other things, that a stockholder vote standing alone cannot ratify a conflicted-controller transaction.

“Even if a stockholder vote could have a ratifying effect, it could not do so here due to multiple, material misstatements in the proxy statement,” she added.

McCormick concluded in January that Musk engineered the landmark pay package in sham negotiations with directors who were not independent. The compensation package initially carried a potential maximum value of about $56 billion, but that sum has fluctuated over the years based on Tesla’s stock price.

Following the original court ruling, Tesla shareholders met in June and ratified Musk’s 2018 pay package for a second time, again by an overwhelming margin.
