My problems are no one else's business, I'm not entitled to anyone's help but myself. So, when I meet anyone who is merciful enough to help me in anyway, I am always grateful.

"Do not waste what remains of your life in speculating about your neighbors, unless with a view to some mutual benefit. To wonder what so-and-so is doing and why, or what he is saying, or thinking, or scheming -- in a word, anything that distracts you from fidelity to the ruler within you -- means a loss of opportunity for some other task."
— Marcus Aurelius

- Do you have people in your life who help you think bigger about what you're capable of?

- Do you have people in your life who tell you that your current delivery isn't good enough?

We all need those people in our lives.

We need people who push us to get uncomfortable, to think bigger, and to be better.

We need people who push us to be better partners, parents, friends, siblings, colleagues, community members, and leaders.

Find the people who tell you the two truths:

- What you're truly capable of
- What you're currently delivering on

My father does not care.

In the same way my wife’s eyes glaze over on NFL Game Day
He does not care
Like talking stocks with six-year-olds
It’s not that they don’t want to listen,
It’s that they don’t care.
Like a butcher at a vegan farmer’s market,
A sober man at an Irish bar,
Like me at your escape room birthday party.
He does not care.

I called my dad when I got my first record deal,
Full of excitement, emotions, feelings.
I said, “Dad, I made it—and the check is pretty big.”
I said, “Dad, you’re gonna have a successful kid.”
I said, “I’ll buy a house,
And one for you, too,
With a gate and the clickers and big open rooms.”
I said, “Dad, don’t you worry,
This is just the beginning,
The tables are tipping,
We’re finally winning.”

He responded like
My 85-year-old grandma, completely unamused
With an iPhone in her hand, like
What does this even do?
Like an American at a cricket match—confused.
He said, “Son, that’s fantastic,
I’m so happy for you.”

You see, my father does not care about anything but my heart.
He knows that wealth and worth have always been super far apart.
And when I showed him my BMW with the new push start,
He faked enthusiasm terribly, like, “Yeah, great car.”

My father’s eyes light up when I talk about my soul.
He wants details of every kid I sang to at the hospital.
We can talk for hours about anything I’ve done for the homeless,
And when my prayer game is strong and I am centered, he notices.

The thing about sons? We just wanna make our dads proud.
We know the songs they like and sing those extra loud.
And I’m pretty clear about how to get my father’s attention now:
Be of service to myself or to others—that’s how.

Someday, I might be massive with my face in Times Square.
Fly only private, lie flat through the air.
Someday, I might become a bajillionaire.
The best part is—
My father does not care.

Every scar has a story. Don’t I know it! Every challenge that you encounter. Every shitty person or stage that you endure along the way WILL be that story that makes you more valuable. More knowledgeable. Stronger. 🥊

No matter what this day brings, believe that you wouldn’t be gifted this challenge unless you could take something from it. Read that again.

Weather the storm. You can get through it. Smash that problem until it quits coming back. 🙋‍♀️
Remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. 🏃‍♀️

The difference between average and exceptional results is found in the things you don’t do.

Everyone can say yes to great opportunities, but only someone focused will say no to average opportunities.

You can do anything, but you can’t do everything.

The lesson: Don’t complain about anything.

If it’s within your control, go do something about it. If it’s not, complaining is just a waste of energy.

When you complain, you’re giving too much power to the thing. Take back that power.

The lazy lose to the average.

The average lose to the focused.

The focused lose to the obsessed.

“Do not underestimate someone who has lost everything and is still here to tell the story.

Do not underestimate someone who has fought dearly for sobriety. Peace. Forgiveness. Self-love. Freedom. Authenticity. Truth.

Do not underestimate the lonely. They have braved wars that only those who understand the absence of human connection can do. Even now. They are holding it all together while coming so wildly undone. And sometimes we may see them unravel ever so softly. Or loudly. Or however their soul unties its cage the best.

Do not underestimate the ones who have suffered the kind of grief that does not seem to end. Who have been broken in places you did not even know existed. The ones who fell into silence because their lungs had no words left to speak.

We will not always be strong.
No.
But we are enduring.”

Demanding and supportive are not mutually exclusive:

“Most people think of demanding and supportive as opposite ends of a spectrum. You can either be tough or you can be nice. But the best leaders don’t choose.
They are both highly demanding and highly supportive. They push you to new heights and they also have your back.”

“If you’re going around wanting to be liked, wanting to be appreciated, wanting to be recognized and rewarded right now for what you’re doing, you’re probably setting yourself up for a life of disappointment and frustration. If you’re doing the things that are right because they’re right, because that’s how you sleep at night, because that’s what you think you’re put here to do, that’s a much more resilient, sustainable, and I think, impressive way to go about one’s career and one’s life.”

Where has your mind been focused recently?

Are you primarily thinking about your past, your present, or your future?

How does focusing on a different timeframe change your thoughts?

Diversity of thought makes us stronger, not weaker.

Without diversity, we die off as a species.

We can no longer adapt to changes in the environment. We need each other to survive.
