*Welcoming Ramadan*
Lectures & Conference with Shaykh Khalid Ismail (UAE) 📖🎙️

Join us for an inspiring series of lectures and discussions to help you prepare for Ramadan! 🕌 💫

This special event will take place February 20th - 23rd, during the school holiday-perfect for families to attend together.

Masjid Al Sunnah, Birmingham

Ibn Rajab رحمه الله said,

“By fasting in Sha'ban prior to Ramadan, one will find the sweetness and pleasure of the fast, so that he will enter into the fast of Ramadan with vigor and determination.”

[Lataa'if al-Ma'aarif]

Ibn Rajab رحمه الله said,

“Fasting it is like a training for fasting Ramadan, so that he does not enter the fasting of Ramadan upon discomfort and inconvenience, rather he had trained himself for fasting and he had made it a habit and he had found, through fasting Shaban, the sweetness of fasting and its delight, so he enters the fasting of Ramadan with energy and vigour.

Since Shaban is like a prelude to Ramadan, what was legislated in Ramadan was legislated in it; from fasting and recitation of the Quran, so that one can attain preparedness for welcoming Ramadan and for the souls to be accustomed to that, in obedience to Ar Rahman.”

[Lata'if al-Maarif 138]

Ibn Rajab رحمه الله narrated that Amr Ibn Qays رحمه الله would close down his business at the start of Sha’ban and dedicate himself to reading the Quran.

He would also say, "Glad tidings for the one who rectifies himself before Ramadan."

[Lata'if al Ma'arif pg.138]

Ibn Hajar رحمه الله said,

“When the Muslims entered the month of Shaban, they would devote themselves to the Quran and give out their Zakat.”

[فتح الباري ١٣٣١٢٤]

Abu Salama reported,

“I heard Aisha رضي الله عنها as saying: I had to complete some of the fasts of Ramadan, but I could not do it but during the month of Shaban due to my duties to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ or with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.”

[Muslim 1146]

Aisha رضي الله عنها said,

“The most beloved month to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for fasting was Sha’ban. He then joined it with Ramadan.”

[Abi Dawud 2431]

Usamah Bin Zaid said,

“I said O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I do not see you fasting any month as much as Shaban.”

He ﷺ said, “That is a month to which people do not pay much attention, between Rajab and Ramadan. It is a month in which the deeds are taken up to the Lord of the worlds, and I like that my deeds be taken up when I am fasting.”

[Nasai 2357]

Imām Mālik رحمه الله said:

“Whoever wishes that his chest be expanded then let him make his private deeds better than his public deeds.”
