🔆National Bamboo Mission

✅Recently, the National Workshop of Bamboo Sector Development was conducted under the National Bamboo Mission (NBM) in New Delhi on 10th March 2023.

About National Bamboo Mission:

✅It is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme started in the year 2006-07 and was subsumed under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), for the years 2014-15 and 2015-16.

✅MIDH is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme implemented from 2014-15 for the holistic development of horticulture in the country, covering fruits, vegetables, root and tuber crops, mushrooms, spices, flowers, aromatic plants, coconut, cashew and cocoa.

✅The aim of the National Bamboo Mission will focus on the development of bamboo in limited States where it has social, commercial and economical advantages.

✅Nodal Ministry: Department of Agriculture & Cooperation (DAC) under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.

✅Bamboo is majorly grown in North Eastern region and States including Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, Andhra etc.

Benefits of the Mission:

✅The initiative would assist farmers, local craftspeople, and other persons involved in the bamboo industry, including allied sectors, both directly and indirectly.
✅The initiative aims to reduce the import of bamboo goods while also increasing farmer income.
It establishes a full value chain for the expansion of the bamboo sector.

Forest Report 2023-24

▪️ On December 21, 2024, Bhupender Yadav, Minister of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, released the 'India State of Forest Report 2023' at the Forest Research Institute, Dehradun.

▪️ Since 1987, the India State of Forest Report (ISFR) has been published biennially by the Forest Survey of India (FSI).

▪️ The Forest Survey of India (FSI) conducts a comprehensive assessment of the country's forest and tree resources based on remote sensing satellite data and field-based National Forest Inventory (NFI). The results are published in the ISFR.

▪️ ISFR 2023 is the 18th report in this series.

▪️ The forest and tree cover in the country is 827,357 sq. km, which constitutes 25.17% of the geographical area of the country. This includes 715,343 sq. km (21.76%) forest cover and 112,014 sq. km (3.41%) tree cover.

▪️ Compared to 2021, the country’s forest and tree cover has increased by 1,445 sq. km, including an increase of 156 sq. km in forest cover and 1,289 sq. km in tree cover.

States with Maximum Increase in Forest and Tree Cover:

1. Chhattisgarh - 684 sq. km

2. Uttar Pradesh - 559 sq. km

3. Odisha - 559 sq. km

4. Rajasthan - 394 sq. km

States with Maximum Increase in Forest Cover:

1. Mizoram - 242 sq. km

2. Gujarat - 180 sq. km

3. Odisha - 152 sq. km

States with Maximum Forest and Tree Cover (in terms of area):

1. Madhya Pradesh - 85,724 sq. km

2. Arunachal Pradesh - 67,083 sq. km

3. Maharashtra - 65,383 sq. km


States with Maximum Forest Cover (in terms of area):

1. Madhya Pradesh - 77,073 sq. km

2. Arunachal Pradesh - 65,882 sq. km

3. Chhattisgarh - 55,812 sq. km

▪️ In terms of percentage of geographical area, Lakshadweep has the highest forest cover at 91.33%, followed by Mizoram (85.34%) and Andaman & Nicobar Islands (81.62%).

▪️ The current assessment reveals that 19 states/union territories have more than 33% of their geographical area under forest cover.

▪️ Among these, eight states/UTs—Mizoram, Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Manipur—have more than 75% forest cover.

▪️ The total mangrove vegetation cover in the country is 4,992 sq. km.

▪️ The bamboo-bearing area in the country is estimated at 154,670 sq. km, with an increase of 5,227 sq. km compared to the 2021 assessment.

▪️ The total carbon stock in the country’s forests is estimated at 7,285.5 million tons, reflecting an increase of 81.5 million tons compared to the previous assessment.

✅Key targets: ~70 MT oilseed production; 72% self-sufficiency by 2030-31

✅Increasing the production of key primary oilseed crops like Rapeseed-Mustard, Groundnut, Soybean. 
✅Enhancing extraction efficiency from secondary sources like Cottonseed, Rice Bran, and Tree Borne Oils.

✅SATHI Portal for 5-year rolling seed plan with state-agency partnerships
Value Chain Clusters across 347 districts (10 lakh hectares annually)
✅Advanced technologies: Genome editing, high-yield varieties
✅Infrastructure: 65 seed hubs, 50 storage units Support for post-harvest units and IEC campaigns
📍Need for Initiative: Second-largest crop category after food grains; Rising demand due to urbanization; Currently import dependent for 57% of domestic demand for edible oils etc.

🎙1975 में आयोजित पहले विश्व हिंदी सम्मेलन की वर्षगांठ को चिह्नित करने के लिए, विश्व हिंदी दिवस प्रतिवर्ष 10 जनवरी को मनाया जाता है।

🎙 10 जनवरी को पहला विश्व हिंदी सम्मेलन 1975 में नागपुर, महाराष्ट्र में हुआ था, जिसका उद्घाटन तत्कालीन प्रधान मंत्री इंदिरा गांधी ने किया था।

🎙पहले सम्मेलन के मुख्य अतिथि मॉरीशस के प्रधानमंत्री शिवसागर रामगुलाम थे।  इसमें 30 देशों के 122 प्रतिनिधियों ने भाग लिया था।

🎙 2006 में, तत्कालीन पीएम मनमोहन सिंह ने 10 जनवरी को विश्व हिंदी दिवस के रूप में घोषित किया।  इस अवसर का एक अन्य उद्देश्य हिंदी को एक अंतरराष्ट्रीय भाषा के रूप में प्रस्तुत करना है।

🔆National Mission for Edible Oils - Oil Palm (NMEO-OP)

✅Launched by the Government of India in August 2021, NMEO-OP targets a substantial increase in oil palm cultivation and crude palm oil production.
✅It is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme with a special focus on the Northeast region and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, with a focus on increasing the area and productivity of oilseeds and Oil Palm. 
✅Scheme Outlay: A financial outlay of Rs. 11,040 crores have been made for the scheme, out of which Rs. 8,844 crore is the Government of India share and Rs. 2,196 crore is the State share, and this includes the viability gap funding also.

📍Targets:
✅To increase the area of oil palm to 10 lakh hectares from 3.5 lakh ha during 2019-20 by 2025-26 (an additional 6.50 lakh ha). 
✅To increase the Crude Palm Oil production from 0.27 lakh tonnes during 2019-20 to 11.20 lakh tonnes by 2025-26.
✅Increase consumer awareness to maintain a consumption level of 19.00 kg/person/annum till 2025-26.

✅Features: The salient features of NMEO-OP include assistance for planting material, inputs for intercropping up to a gestation period of 4 years and for maintenance, the establishment of seed gardens, nurseries, micro irrigation, bore well/pump set/water harvesting structure, vermicompost units, solar pumps, harvesting tools, custom hiring centre cum harvester Groups, farmers and officers training, and for replanting of old oil palm gardens, etc.

✅Recently, central government has been extended the Samarth Scheme for two years (FY 2024-25 and 2025-26) with a budget of Rs. 495 Crore to train 3 lakh persons in textile-related skills.

✅The Scheme for Capacity Building in Textiles Sector (SAMARTH) is a demand-drivenand placement-oriented umbrella skilling programme.
✅Aim: It aims to incentivize and supplementthe efforts of the industry in creating jobs in the organized textile and related sectors, covering the entire value chain of textiles, excluding Spinning and Weaving.
✅In addition to the entry-level skilling, a special provision for upskilling/ re-skilling programme has also been operationalized under the scheme towards improving the productivity of the existing workers in the Apparel & Garmenting segments.
