AGEPoly’s executive board would like to create a working group on its general assemblies. In order to have a multitude of opinions and backgrounds, AGEPoly would like one member to be a student which is neither involved in a commission nor a student representative.

[ EPFL Board-Representation meeting of Fall 2024 ]
Every semester, EPFL's board meets up with the student representatives to discuss issues on campus. Last Monday was this semester's meeting. Some of the discussed subjects were the lack of workspaces on campus, ETHZ's admission policies for certain foreign students and the Mental Health Task Force. [ Réunion Représentation-Direction EPFL d’automne 2024 ]
Chaque semestre, la direction de l’EPFL se réunit avec la représentation estudiantine pour discuter de points d’actualité sur campus. La réunion de ce semestre s’est tenue lundi dernier. [ Representation Assembly - 05.11 ]
The student representation has met on November 5th to discuss subjects that involve all students. Among these subjects were the registration procedure to SHS classes, the differences in internship offers between faculties, and the creation of a charter for representatives. Lastly, the agenda of the semestrial representatives’ meeting with the EPFL board has been decided, more on that in a following message!

[ Assemblée de la Représentation - 05.11 ]
La représentation estudiantine s’est réunie le 5 novembre pour discuter de sujets qui touchent tou·te·s les étudiant·e·s. Ces sujets comportaient entre autres les modalités d’inscriptions en SHS, les différences d’offres de stages entre facultés, et la création d’une charte pour la représentation. Enfin, les points à apporter à la réunion représentation-direction semestrielle ont été décidés, plus d’informations à ce sujet dans un prochain message !

[ Commission ILOT ]
Au semestre de printemps, l’EPFL a créé la commission ILOT pour gérer les impacts de la crise au Proche-Orient sur le campus. L’AGEPoly fait partie de la commission.

Elle vise à favoriser l’unité, soutenir les communautés affectées, et conseiller l’EPFL. Quatre groupes de travail abordent l’accompagnement de la communauté, les règles encadrant les associations et événements, et la gestion de la santé mentale en période de crise. L’objectif est d’assurer un espace respectueux et une prise en compte des besoins des étudiant·e·s.

[ ILOT Committee ]
In the spring semester, EPFL set up the ILOT commission to manage the impact of the Middle East crisis on the campus. AGEPoly is a member of the commission.

It aims to foster unity, support affected communities, and advise EPFL. Four working groups are addressing community support, rules for associations and events, and mental health management in times of crisis. The aim is to ensure a respectful space where students' needs are taken into account.

[ Mise à jour : examens différés ]
Après beaucoup de négociations, les examens différés seront enfin mis en place en guise de projet pilote durant la MàN 2025, la MàN 2026 ainsi que le BA1 et le BA2 2025/2026 ! Pour ces volées, si un·e étudiant·e ne peut pas se présenter à un examen, iel pourra le passer quelques semaines après la date initialement prévue au lieu de devoir attendre l’année d’après. [ Update: deferred exams ]
After much negotiation, deferred exams will finally be implemented as a pilot project during the MàN 2025, MàN 2026, as well as BA1 and BA2 for the 2025/2026 academic year! For these classes, if a student cannot attend an exam, they will be able to take part in it a few weeks later instead of waiting for the consecutive year. [ 🇫🇷 Sondage pour la réunion direction-représentation ]
Lundi prochain (18 novembre) a lieu la rencontre semestrielle entre vos délégué·e·s et la direction de l’EPFL. [ 🇬🇧 Survey for the EPFL board-representatives meeting ]
Next Monday 18th of November is the winter term meeting between the class representatives and the EPFL board. To prepare for that, the CERES (section's delegates) would like to gather the views of the student community to ensure that we represent you as well as possible and to gather new perspectives.

- The fundamental rights on campus,
- The lack of workspaces,
- The unfriendly behaviour of ETHZ towards certain countries and potential changes at EPFL.

[ 🇬🇧 EPFL is thinking about not renewing its French CTI certification - results of the poll ]
EPFL is thinking of not renewing the CTI accreditation of many of its masters, which expires late 2028. AGEPoly has polled the student body on this matter, which seems opposed to the project. Read the results of the poll here [link]. They will be discussed with the EPFL Commission in charge.

[🇬🇧 Consultation on the increase of tuition fees - Implementation ]

The tripling of tuition fees for foreign students has unfortunately been decided by the Swiss Parliament. However, there are still details regarding implementation that remain open for discussion, such as the definition of "foreign students" and the implications of this increase for current students at EPFL and ETHZ.

Additionally, the ETH Board proposes that the tuition fees (currently 730 CHF) be tied to the Swiss consumer price index. Essentially, if the average cost of a shopping basket changes, the tuition fees would also change, for everyone, not just foreign students.

AGEPoly needs to take a stance as the student representation association, so we are gathering your opinions through the form linked above. For this consultation, it is important to express your views to show that the increase in tuition fees affects us particularly.

Le triplement des taxes d'études pour les étudiant·e·s étranger·ère·s a malheureusement été décidé par le Parlement suisse. Cependant, il reste des détails d'implémentation sur lesquels il y a encore matière à discussion, comme la définition "d'étudiant·e·s étranger·ère·s" ainsi que les implications de cette augmentation pour les étudiant·e·s actuel·le·s de l'EPFL et de l'ETHZ.

En plus, le Conseil des EPF propose que le montant des taxes d'études (730 CHF actuellement) suive l'indice suisse des prix à la consommation - en gros, si le prix moyen d'un panier de courses change, le montant des taxes d'études changerait aussi, pour tout le monde et pas seulement les étudiant·e·s étranger·ère·s.

The polytechnical schools council has started a consultation on the tripling of tuition fees for foreign students. You can read about it here (protected access, VPN or EPFL network).

The Commission des Titres d'Ingénieur (CTI) certifies French engineering schools by awarding the title of Engineer to their graduates, a highly protected title in France. EPFL is one of the few non-French schools to benefit from this certification, and it is considering not renewing it. This can have an effect on future students’ careers as well as the recognition of their diploma, thus AGEPoly is polling to understand the impact of such a change.

Increase in Tuition Fees
🗞 Bad news from Bern: The Council of States has voted in favor of minority 1, which means the law will be changed to make taxes at least three times higher for foreign students.

🫥 It's a tough blow, but AGEPoly has done everything in its power to prevent this. Unfortunately, Parliament remains inflexible, despite all our efforts.

👉 What are our next steps? Express our discontent to highlight the impact of this decision on the community and make our voices heard! We will fight to ensure that this money is used for students through scholarships.

🗞️ Mauvaises nouvelles en direct de Berne : Le Conseil des États a voté pour la minorité 1, ce qui signifie que la loi sera modifiée pour imposer des taxes au minimum trois fois plus élevées pour les étranger·ère·s.

🫥 C’est un coup dur, mais l’AGEPoly a fait tout ce qui était en son pouvoir. Malheureusement, le Parlement reste inflexible, malgré tous nos efforts.

[ Follow-up: Increase of tuition fees ]
AGEPoly went to the Federal Palace in Bern to curb the increase in tuition fees for foreign students. On the parliamentary side, the Council of States might lean towards doubling instead of tripling the fees. However, on July 10th and 11th, the ETH Board decided to put the proposal for tripling the tuition fees up for consultation, reversing its decision from last March. L'AGEPoly est allée au Palais Fédéral à Berne pour freiner l'augmentation des taxes d'études pour les étranger·ère·s. Du côté du Parlement, le Conseil des États pourrait se diriger vers un doublement au lieu d'un triplement. Cependant, le Conseil des EPF a décidé les 10 et 11 juillet derniers de mettre en consultation le projet de triplement de taxes d'études, revenant sur sa décision de mars dernier.
