Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to bring to your attention certain errors and ambiguities encountered in the CA Final Nov 2024 examination, specifically in Paper 2 - Advanced Financial Management. I hope this letter will help initiate a prompt resolution to these concerns.

Below are my details for your reference:

Observations and Concerns:

Q2(b)
The discount rate necessary for calculating the present value is missing. This omission created confusion and hindered the ability to accurately respond to the question.

Q5(a)
- The question provided two discount rates, 15% and 12%, but did not specify which rate pertains to the Rupee and which to the Dollar, causing significant ambiguity.
- Although the question states that there is no salvage value, a net surplus of 1858.08 lakhs is mentioned as receivable after the project closure (post-5 years). If this amount is not intended as salvage value, it may be expected as the NPV. However, this interpretation also seems improbable given it is receivable after 5 years.
- Additionally, the question requests the calculation of the recommended forward rate but does not clarify if this calculation is required for each year, further complicating the interpretation.
- Due to these ambiguities, a considerable amount of time was lost attempting to decipher the intent of the question.

With all due respect, I kindly request that my observations be taken into consideration for the above-mentioned questions. I trust in the diligence and professionalism of ICAI to address these concerns and ensure a fair outcome for all candidates affected by these ambiguities.

All My Dear AFM Students

It was a wonderful experience for me to run and prepare alongside you for AFM Nov 24 Marathon

Although the paper was more than average but I loved every bit of its Journey

In the Mid of August 2024, after 2 years of long break I had decided to Start Again, Start Afresh

Sir Upto how many decimals I should consider in AFM Paper

1. First of all read the question clearly if something is mentioned specifically for the decimals
And follow that strictly

2. Understand the pattern of Question, and follow according to it.
For example if the present value factors are already given in 3 digits, use 3 digits .
If the rupees are given in two decimals ,follow that in your answer also etc.

Expected Cost of Delay 6.67%

The cost of delay in this context refers to the loss or reduction in value due to postponing the introduction or production of the drug.

When there's a delay, ABC Ltd. misses out on some of the cash flows they could have earned if the drug was available in the market sooner.
It's similar to the concept of a company paying out dividends to its shareholders while the value of the stock decreases by that amount.


Imagine you have a new product that could earn you ₹1000 every year for 15 years. However, if you delay launching the product by one year, you lose that ₹1000 for the first year, and you now only earn for 14 years. This missing ₹1000 is your "cost of delay."


In the case of ABC Ltd., the delay reduces the present value of their future cash flows, much like a stock paying out dividends reduces the future growth of the stock price.

Patents 100% value is only for 15 years
Hence
100/15 = 6.67% value every year will decrease

The logic of not converting in the first two cases and converting in third case is simple
Its all related to Cash Flow Timing

In first two cases entire dividend will be paid by company to shareholder hence we take total amount to adjust with spot price

In third case yield is given, which is calculated by investor.

Imagine shareholder has bought shares 3 months back at ₹100 and dividend paid to him is ₹5. Yield for him is 5/100 = 5% for 3 months i.e. 20% Per Annum

Now in forward futures formula this ₹5 should be deducted from Spot no matter what

So lets look at all the three scenarios above :

1. ₹5 is given in question directly hence use it without converting

2. 50% Dividend Rate is Given and Face Value ₹10
Hence Dividend = 10 x 50% = ₹5
Use this directly

3. Dividend Yield of 20% is given
20% of 100 is = ₹20 . Here we have to convert it to 3 months and then only ₹5 will come.


You can see in all the above cases logic of 5 is same but we had to convert only in third case.
