موازی‌سازی (قسمت ۲)

پیوندهای هم‌زمان باید در نزدیکی کلمه یا کلمات مورد پیوست قرار گیرند. به عبارت دیگر، هر یک از اعضای پیوندهای هم‌زمان باید با اشکال موازی دنبال شوند.

Incorrect: She not only baked an apple pie but also a lemon pie.

در جمله بالا، اشکالی که بعد از "نه تنها... بلکه همچنین" آمده‌اند موازی نیستند: یکی از آن‌ها یک عبارت فعلی است و دیگری یک عبارت اسمی.
Correct: She baked not only an apple pie but also a lemon pie.

جمله بالا درست است زیرا "نه تنها... بلکه همچنین" هر دو با عبارات اسمی دنبال می‌شوند.

قواعد موازی‌سازی (PART 1)

موازی‌سازی به معنای متعادل کردن یک ساختار با ساختاری دیگر از همان نوع است: اسم‌ها با اسم‌ها، صفت‌ها با صفت‌ها، قیدها با قیدها و غیره.

▎مثال‌ها:
Men, women, and children enjoy the show. (nouns)

The players are excited, eager, and enthusiastico. (adjectives)

The author wrote skillfully and quickly.(adverbs)

• اسم‌ها: مردان، زنان و کودکان از نمایش لذت می‌برند.

• صفت‌ها: بازیکنان هیجان‌زده، مشتاق و پرشور هستند.

• قیدها: نویسنده با مهارت و به سرعت نوشت.

شما می‌توانید ساختارهای موازی ایجاد کنید با پیوستن گروه‌های کلمات مشابه به یکدیگر: عبارات حرف اضافه‌ای با عبارات حرف اضافه‌ای، جملات با جملات و غیره.

she fell in love and out of love in no time. (prepositional phrases)

who he was and where he came from did not matter. (clauses)

He came in a hurry. He left in a hurry. (sentences)

▎قوانین موازی‌سازی:

قانون ۱: کلمات در یک سری باید از همان نوع کلام (parts of speech) باشند.

مثال ها:
Not parallel:
The town was small, friendly, and the atmosphere was peaceful.

Parallel:
The town was small, friendly,
And peaceful.

قانون ۲: عبارات در یک سری باید از یک نوع باشند (مانند عبارات مصدر، عبارات حرف اضافه، عبارات فعلی و غیره).
Not parallel:
Her lost assignment is in her closet, on the floor, and a pile of clothes is hiding it.

Parallel:
Her lost assignment is in her closet, on the floor, and under a pile of clothes.

قانون ۳: جملات در یک سری نباید با عبارات مخلوط شوند.

Not parallel:
The street was narrow, the shops were charming, and crowds in the café.

Parallel:
The street was narrow, the shops were charming, and the cafe was crowded.

با رعایت این قوانین، می‌توانید نوشتار خود را متعادل‌تر و منسجم‌تر کنید.

یک اصلاح‌کننده معلق (dangling modifier) اصلاح‌کننده‌ای است که بدون کلمه یا عبارتی مشخص که آن را توصیف کند، وجود دارد.
ساختار ها بدین صورت:

الف. پیوستن دو جمله با فاعل های متفاوت با استفاده از یک عبارت جزئی

ب. کاهش یک ( adverb clause )به یک عبارت جزئی (participle)  زمانی که فاعل های adverb clause و main clause متفاوت هستند.

مثال‌ها:
Example: I entered the room. The telephone rang.

من وارد اتاق شدم. تلفن زنگ زد.

Dangling: Entering the room, the telephone rang.
وارد شدن به اتاق، تلفن زنگ زد.

جمله فوق هیچ معنایی ندارد زیرا این‌طور به نظر می‌رسد که تلفن در حال ورود به اتاق بوده است!

Correct: Entering the room, I heard the telephone ranging.
شکل صحیح: وارد اتاق شدن، من صدای زنگ تلفن را شنیدم.
......................

Another example: while I was working on the car's engine, the dog barked all afternoon.
در حالی که من روی موتور ماشین کار می‌کردم، سگ تمام بعدازظهر پارس کرد.

Dangling: Working on the car's engine, the dog all afternoon.

کار کردن روی موتور ماشین، سگ تمام بعدازظهر پارس کرد.

باز هم جمله فوق هیچ معنایی ندارد زیرا این‌طور به نظر می‌رسد که سگ در حال کار کردن روی موتور ماشین بوده است!

Adverb clause
اصلی نمی‌تواند به یک عبارت participle کاهش یابد زیرا موضوعات جملات اصلی و وابسته متفاوت هستند.
Correct: Working on the car's engine, I heard the dog barking all afternoon.

شکل صحیح: در حال کار کردن روی موتور ماشین، من صدای پارس سگ را تمام بعدازظهر شنیدم.

شما می دانید که یک ضمیر باید به وضوح به مقدم خود اشاره کند. بنابراین، مقدم ضمیر نباید مفقود، مبهم و تکراری باشد.

1. عدم وجود مقدم
In Florida, they have beautifully developed retirement areas.
در این جمله نمی دانیم منظور «they» چه کسانی است. .بنابراین، مقدم مفقود است. بهتر است در جمله زیر تجدید نظر شود:
Many Florida communities have beautifully developed retirement area.

2. مقدمه مبهم
Fred gave David his money and clothes.
در این جمله، "his" می تواند به فرد یا دیوید اشاره کند. .بنابراین، مقدم مبهم است. بهتر است در جمله زیر تجدید نظر شود:
Fred gave his own money and clothes to David.
3. ضمیر مکرر و متقدم
The book, it describes the second world war.
.فاعل در این جمله یا باید اسم «book» باشد یا اگر پیش از آن وجود نداشته باشد، ضمیر «it» باشد. استفاده از اسم و ضمیر باعث تکرار بیهوده می شود. بنابراین، این حکم باید به شرح زیر اصلاح شود:
The book describes the second world war.

توافق ضمیر- مقدم
وقتی از یک ضمیر در نوشتار خود استفاده می کنید، آن ضمیر باید به کلمه ای که قبلاً در متن استفاده شده اشاره کند. به این کلمه که قبلاً استفاده می شد (پیشین یا antecedent) می گویند.

The (beach) was crowded. (It) was a popular place on a hot summer day.

در این مثال، ضمیر (it) جایگزین کلمه (beach) می شود. (Beach) در این صورت مقدم ضمیر (it) است.

قاعده اول: ضمیر باید از نظر عدد (مفرد یا جمع) با مقدم خود مطابقت داشته باشد.
مثال ها:
Incorrect: Each of the girls brought their book.
Correct: (Each of the girls) brought (her) book.

Incorrect: Neither Alex nor his friends lost his way.
Correct: Neither Alez nor (his friends) lost (their) way.
(The pronoun agrees with the nearest antecedent.)

(ضمیر با نزدیکترین مقدم مطابقت دارد.)

قاعده 2: ضمیر باید شخصاً (اول، دوم یا سوم) با مقدم خود مطابقت داشته باشد.
مثال ها:
Incorrect: I love to travel, especially when you go to foreign countries.
Correct: (I) love to travel, especially when (I) go to foreign countries.

Incorrect: When you are about to merge with moving traffic on the freeway, one should not stop his or her car.
Correct: When (you) are about to merge with moving traffic on the freeway, (you) should not stop (your) car.

قانون 3: یک ضمیر باید از نظر جنسیت (مذکر، مؤنث یا خنثی) با مقدم خود مطابقت داشته باشد.
مثال:
(my husband) gave me (his) best advice.

نکات زیر در مورد ضمایر نامعین مهم است که به خاطر بسپارید:

1. به طور سنتی، نویسندگان از ضمایر مذکر برای اشاره به ضمایر مفرد مجهول در مواقعی که جنسیت مجهول است، استفاده می کردند.

(Everyone) worked on (his) final draft.

2. برای جلوگیری از تعصب جنسی درک شده، از (her or she) و (his or her) به جای (he or his) استفاده کنید.
