The entire district's population travels to the district headquarters daily for shopping, jobs, transit, education, etc. Therefore, the district capital should be a developed one, commensurate with its population. Unfortunately, Salem is often considered a second-class city by the government.
Even districts with lesser populations, such as Madurai and Trichy, have received infrastructure development, including premium libraries, hospitals, schools, ring roads, IT parks, government institutions, and modern bus stands. In contrast, Salem still uses outdated facilities, including an old library and bus stand, and lacks a ring road.
Smaller populated districts like Trichy are receiving significant investments, including large Tidel parks and new bus stands. Meanwhile, Salem seems to be overlooked by the government. Hopefully, this situation will change in the future.
