The minutes, to be released at 10 p.m. Moscow Time (1900 GMT) on Wednesday, may help clarify how policymakers will approach further rate reductions. Projections issued after the December meeting showed officials anticipating just a half percentage point worth of rate cuts this year, compared to a full percentage point as of September.

The minutes "are likely to fully reflect this relatively hawkish viewpoint," analysts from Citi wrote. "This would include discussion of concerns that inflation could remain persistently elevated if policy rates do not remain suitably restrictive," and perhaps discussion as well that the rate of interest needed to fully return inflation to the Fed's 2% target has moved higher.

The reserves, located in Pingjiang County, feature over 40 gold ore veins at a depth of 2,000 meters, with a core resource of 300.2 tons and grades reaching up to 138 grams per ton. Experts forecast more than 1,000 tons of reserves at greater depths.

Despite its significant production capacity, China remains a net importer of gold to meet domestic demand, with consumption far exceeding output in the first three quarters of 2023.

ISRAEL APPROVES CEASEFIRE DEAL WITH LEBANON, TV REPORTS

Israel has agreed a ceasefire with Lebanon, Israel's Channel 12 television reported on Tuesday, clearing the way for an end to a conflict between Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah that has killed thousands of people since it was ignited by the Gaza war last year.

The accord was expected to take effect on Wednesday. The Channel 12 report followed a meeting of Israel's security cabinet under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened to discuss a ceasefire deal.

Israeli approval of the deal would pave the way for a ceasefire declaration by U.S. President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron, according to four senior Lebanese sources who spoke to Reuters on Monday.

Despite the diplomatic breakthrough, hostilities raged as Israel dramatically ramped up its campaign of air strikes in Beirut and other parts of Lebanon.

However, there was no indication that a truce in Lebanon would hasten a ceasefire and hostage-release deal in devastated Gaza, where Israel is battling Palestinian militant group Hamas.

The minutes of the meeting held on November 6–7 will be published on November 26 at 22:00 Moscow Time. Investors worldwide are eagerly anticipating these minutes, as they may shed light on discussions surrounding potential interest rate cuts before the year's end.

On Tuesday, U.S. Treasury yields rose in response to investor anticipation of the Federal Reserve meeting minutes and key economic data expected later this week. The 10-year Treasury yield increased by nearly four basis points to 4.302%, while the 2-year Treasury yield climbed by over two basis points to 4.278%.

The Federal Reserve has reduced interest rates twice in recent months, following an extended period of elevated rates.
