🎉 Our Section Members’ Achievements Throughout the Year

The SPE Northern Iraq Section proudly celebrates Srwa Salam Ali, a 4th-year Petroleum Engineering student at Koya University, for her outstanding achievement at OPES 2024 in Muscat! 🇴🇲

She was the only representative from Kurdistan and one of just 10 students from MENA selected for the SPE Regional Student Paper Contest, where she presented her research on "Effects of Corn Fiber Additive on Water-Based Mud Filtration Properties." 🔬 Supervised by Eng. Mohammed Jamal, her work stood out among thousands of applicants.

Through her participation, Srwa gained invaluable experience, expanded her professional network, and showcased Kurdistan’s emerging talent on a global stage. Her inspiring motto:
💡 “Don’t fear doing things alone; some things are meant just for you!”

Her achievements reflect the growing impact of young professionals in Kurdistan’s energy industry. 🚀

Roman Mohammed, a Petroleum Engineering graduate from the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) and a dedicated member of the SPE Northern Iraq Section, proudly represented the Middle East and North Africa at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) Asia in Malaysia. Selected as one of only 27 students worldwide, he showcased his exceptional skills by securing second place in the presentation competition with his team. 🏆

During the conference, Roman gained valuable insights into emerging oil and gas technologies and had the opportunity to connect with influential industry leaders, including Datuk Zulkifli, Executive Vice President & CEO Upstream of PETRONAS, and Alex Martinez, Chair of OTC Asia 2024. 🤝

This achievement highlights our section members' outstanding capabilities in shaping the energy sector's future! 🚀

📣 Our Section Members’ Achievements Throughout the Year:

Handav Karwan Mohammed, a fourth-year Petroleum Engineering student at UKH and a proud member of the SPE Northern Iraq Section 🌟, was selected as one of only 100 students worldwide to attend the prestigious International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC). The event was hosted by Aramco in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, from 10th to 14th February 2024.

Handav stood out as the only Iraqi participant at this prominent event, which has been the Eastern Hemisphere’s leading multidisciplinary technical platform since its establishment in 2005. Sponsored by four major industry organizations, IPTC addresses critical industry challenges and brings together global experts, leaders, and students. 🌍

This achievement reflects the exceptional talents and dedication of our section members in advancing their professional journey in the energy sector. 🚀

📜 From Our Archives:

Three students from Koya University’s Petroleum Engineering Department—Diako Kamran Saadi, Aland Omed Abbas, and Ahmad Mahmoud Ahmad—proudly represented the Kurdistan Region and Iraq 🌍 at the prestigious SPE ADIPEC University Program in Abu Dhabi on October 1, 2023.

🎓 Organized by SPE International, ADNOC, and Khalifa University, this program offered 40 students from the Middle East and North Africa region invaluable academic and professional experiences in the energy sector.

Participants engaged in scientific panels, workshops, and seminars, visited ADNOC facilities and explored international exhibitions, including ADIPEC. These experiences broadened their perspectives and enhanced their career prospects in the global oil and gas industry. 🌟

Course Highlights! 🌟

We’re excited to share the highlights of the “Geoscientists’ Role in Kurdistan's Oil and Gas Industry course”! Our first in-person event at the newly established SPE Salahaddin University - Erbil Chapter provided an excellent opportunity to learn about geoscience in the oil and gas industry through informative sessions and practical field experiences. 🚧 Special thanks to OilSERV for providing insightful information about the oil and gas service industry, as well as their mudlogging service, in which geologists play an important role. Huge appreciation to our Salahaddin University Chapter officers for their excellent organizing efforts that made this event a success, and congratulations to all participants for completing the course! 📜
