I would add only that both the quantity AND the quality of your practice are important. Poorly trained or untrained teachers, out-dated or poorly written textbooks, spending hours memorizing rules of grammar but never learning to speak—all of these are quite similar (in their negative effects) to having a bad music teacher or playing on a poor quality instrument.

Note: There is a known bug in Tandem that causes parties to end without warning. Tandem knows about it and they are working on a fix. In the meantime, if you are hosting parties, let your audience know and tell them if you'll restart a crashed party or not. Happy New Year!
