Introduction:
Hey Masa Community,

Last week, Masa advised the community regarding two recent incidents, and steps we’re taking to re-issue MASA tokens on a new contract on Base for affected users. See the full announcement here: https://x.com/getmasafi/status/1847443818292875395

Today, we would like to address the frequently-asked questions we’ve received from the community to provide you with helpful information.

FAQ:
Which networks were affected by the incidents?
The impact is limited to MASA on the Base blockchain. We are not aware of any issues with MASA on the BNB or Ethereum blockchains. Additionally, MASA staked on ETH is currently locked until the staking contract migration is complete.

When will the new MASA token on Base be launched and distributed to users?
Masa is working diligently so that users’ assets are re-issued and/or restored as soon as possible. We will notify the community once the smart contract is deployed, and the assets are distributed to users.

How will the new MASA token be issued to users on Base?
The new MASA token is expected to be airdropped to user’s wallets - via a snapshot taken before the incident on October 17th.

What will happen to users who have locked MASA on Hedgey?
The intention for locked and unlocked MASA tokens on Base that were in the Hedgey platform, is for reissuance to the same wallet address, with the same lock-up and unlock contract and timing.

What about users who bought tokens after the incident on Base, but before the announcement?
Masa is actively investigating the impact of affected users who bought tokens after the incident on Base.

When will staking re-launch on Ethereum and Base?
We anticipate that staking will re-launch on Ethereum and Base around the time the new contract goes live. We’ll notify the community once staking is live on Ethereum and Base.

Is there anything we shouldn’t do while we wait for the new MASA on Base?
We ask the community:
(1) do NOT buy or trade MASA on Base on Uniswap, Aerodrome or other DEX
(2) do NOT try to transfer your MASA on Base blockchain
(3) do NOT try to bridge MASA to or from Base to Ethereum or BNB Chain

Why wasn’t the community notified earlier about the incident?
Upon becoming aware of the initial incident, Masa took immediate steps to contain the incident and launched an investigation, including engaging an external cybersecurity firm and reporting the matter to the federal law enforcement agencies immediately. The investigation, including efforts regarding the October 17th incident, is ongoing.

Given that investigations into the incidents are ongoing, we are limited in what we can say at this time. Premature publication of the details of the ongoing investigation by Masa could aid attackers. We don’t want to help the attackers who have targeted many projects in the community.

Masa is an open and permissionless project and we greatly value transparency and the support of our Global community. Given that investigations into the incidents are ongoing, we are limited in what we can say at this time. We recognize that there are people in the crypto and blockchain community who have published initial reports and investigative findings. Premature publication of the details of the ongoing investigation by Masa could aid attackers. We don’t want to help the attackers who have targeted many projects in the community.

Please always refer to official Masa channels for communications.

We ask the community:
(1) do NOT buy or trade MASA on Base on Uniswap, Aerodrome or other DEX
(2) do NOT try to transfer your MASA on Base blockchain

Please be patient as we finalize this process - we’re working to ensure that all users have their MASA credited on a new contract. Masa is working diligently so that users’ assets are re-issued and/or restored as soon as possible. We will provide updates when additional information helpful to users becomes available.
