A stationary (or standing wave) is a wave formed when two identical waves travelling in opposite directions are superimposed. In these sort of waves, there are two peculiar characteristics which we must define.
✨A node: This is a point of zero displacement. The distance between two successive nodes is half a wavelength (λ/2)
✨An antinode: This is a point of maximum displacement. The distance between two successive antinodes is half a wavelength (λ/2)
However, the distance between a node and an adjacent antinode is quarter of a wavelength (λ/4)

From v = fλ,
v = 60cm/s, f = 40Hz, λ = ?
60 = 40×λ
λ = 60/40
λ = 1.5cm

The distance between a node and an adjacent antinode = λ/4
= 1.5/4
