Gaining admission into the university is not an easy task, especially when there are some serious requirements each university demands from its prospective students. In this current dispensation, one requirement that has become a new normal is a WASSCE certificate. It is for this reason that students in the various Senior High Schools try their possible best to complete their 3 years of schooling with flying classes.
In recent years, we see universities admitting a relatively larger number of SHS graduates. This fact has created a mental image in students that getting admission is easy. However, that is not the case. This article provides students with some hard truths about admission into some universities.
Forget University
Admission If You Fail These
WASSCE 2024 Subjects:
What are the subjects?
All final-year SHS students must take note that they should forget about the university if they fail in these subjects;
1. Core Mathematics
Believe it or not, getting a D7, E8, or F9 in Core Mathematics might be a reason why you may not be able to further your education. Irrespective of the course you intend to read in the university (be it a reading course like Political Science or Sociology or a calculation course like Accounting or Physics), you must make it a point to get a grade between A1-C6.
Again, students who intend to take calculation courses must aspire to gain a grade between A1 and B3.
Students must note, however, that gaining a C6 does not imply a 100 percent guarantee of admission since a lot of people can pass, and as such, the cut-off point might be raised.
All final-year SHS students must take note that they should forget about the university if they fail in these subjects;
2. English Language
In a country like Ghana, where the official language for academic work is English, failing the English language implies ending your academic career. Of course, students must try their possible best to gain a grade between A1-C6. For students aspiring to read law, A1 is a mandatory requirement. For other courses, gaining an A is enough to guarantee admission.
3. The last requirement is a pass in either Social Studies or Integrated Science.
Students are expected to obtain at least C6 in these two subjects as well to better position them for tertiery education. However, you can secure admission into most diploma programmes with D7 but not nursing and colleges of education.
