The decision comes as millions of TikTok users found themselves unable to access the platform on Sunday, with Google and Apple removing it from their digital stores in compliance with the law.

Trump addressed the situation in a Truth Social post, stating his intention to delay the ban to finalize a deal that protects U.S. national security. “I’m asking companies not to let TikTok stay dark!” he wrote. “Americans deserve to see our exciting Inauguration on Monday, as well as other events and conversations.”

Under federal law, the president has the authority to grant a 90-day extension if a sale is in progress. Although ByteDance has resisted selling its U.S. operations, Trump proposed a unique solution: a joint venture in which the U.S. would hold a 50% ownership stake.

Heavily armed men have abd¥cted the wife of retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, from her residence in the Arepo area of Ogun State.

The attackers, described as masked and heavily armed, reportedly fir£d sporadically during the abd¥ction. According to reports, the victim was taken while attempting to enter her home.

The assailants dr+gged her from her Lexus Jeep and transported her through swampy terrain to an unknown location.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that the command acted swiftly by deploying operatives to ensure her release.

“Information was received regarding the k+dnapping of Mrs. Odumosu, a female resident of Aminu Street, Arepo, Ogun State,” Odutola said.

“Efforts are underway, involving local security forces in the riverine areas, including Baale Warewa and Baale Maaba, to assist in the rescue.”

The Federal High Court in Lagos has issued an order restraining the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) from arresting or penalizing drivers for using vehicles with faded number plates.

Justice Akintayo Aluko delivered the judgment on Friday, also prohibiting the FRSC from imposing fines or p¥nishments on drivers for the condition of their number plates.

The judgment followed a suit filed by legal practitioner Chinwike Chamberlain Ezebube against the FRSC. Ezebube, in an Originating Summons filed on February 13, 2024, sought clarity on the FRSC’s responsibilities under the Federal Road Safety Commission Act of 2007.

He questioned whether the FRSC, as the sole designer & producer of vehicle number plates in Nigeria, is not entirely accountable for ensuring the quality & durability of the plates it produces.

The court’s decision reinforces the notion that the FRSC holds responsibility for the integrity of the number plates it issues.

A Magistrate Court in Wuse, Abuja, has ordered the remand of Mr. Enenche Enenche, Alexander Enenche, and Pastor Abraham Daniel at Keffi Prison, Nasarawa State.

The two brothers of Pastor Paul Enenche, Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Church, and former Dunamis pastor Abraham Daniel were taken into custody following a police invitation.

Sources revealed that the trio were initially detained by the Nigerian Police Force at the Force Intelligence Department (FID) after they honored an invitation related to allegations of cyberb¥llying and criminal d+famation against Pastor Paul Enenche.

They were later remanded at the Keffi Custodial Centre on Monday evening after police secured an order from the Magistrate Court.

A passenger jet crash-landed at an airport in southwestern South Korea on Sunday, leaving at least 85 people dead, according to fire officials.

The aircraft slid down the runway on its belly before b¥rsting into flames.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery on Sunday announced a reduction in its price of petrol, to ₦970 per litre for oil marketers.

The company’s Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, disclosed this in a statement.

He said the decision is the refinery’s way of appreciating Nigerians “for their unwavering support in making the refinery a dream come true”.

According to the statement, the move is a cut from the refinery’s ₦990 ex-depot price announced earlier this month.

“In addition, this is to thank the government for their support as this will complement the measures put in place to encourage domestic enterprise for our collective well-being,” the statement partly read.

“While the refinery would not compromise on the quality of its petroleum products, we assure you of best quality products that are environmentally friendly and sustainable.

We are determined to keep ramping up production to meet and surpass our domestic fuel consumption; thus, dispelling any fear of a shortfall in supply.”

Operatives of the NDLEA have arrested a 50-year-old businessman identified as Osuoha Christian Iheanacho at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu for ingesting 90 wraps of coc@ine.

This was revealed in a signed statement by the agency’s Director, Media & Advocacy on November 24, 2024.

Osuoha was intercepted on Wednesday 20th November 2024 at the arrival hall of the Enugu airport during the inbound screening of passengers arriving from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on an Ethiopian airlines flight following months of surveillance on him.

He was subsequently placed on excretion observation during which he egested 90 pellets of coc@ine weighing 2.019 kg in 7 excretions.

Investigation reveals that the suspect who operates phone & accessories business in Lagos & Gabon, Central Africa, travelled by road from Gabon to Douala, Cameroon from where he took a flight to Addis Ababa where he swallowed the pellets of cocaine while in transit & thereafter continued his journey to Enugu with Lagos as his final destination.

In an effort to combat dr¥g-related crimes, the National Assembly has amended the NDLEA Act, imposing life imprisonment for dr¥g offenders & traffickers.

Senate has concurred with the recommendation of the House of Representatives to commute the d3ath sentence penalty for persons found guilty of storing, moving or concealing hard dr¥gs & other illicit substances to life imprisonment.

The alignment of the Senate with the House of Representatives yesterday was a sequel to the amendment effected on the NDLEA Act.

The amendment was considered at the plenary, presided over by the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, APC Kano North, after majority of senators supported the harmonisation of the conference committee of the two chambers of the National Assembly on Section 11 of the NDLEA Act.

Recall that recently, the House of Representatives passed an amendment to the NDLEA law to prescribe life imprisonment for dr¥g traffickers but the Senate version of the amendment prescribed d3ath penalty for the offenders.

The bill sponsored by Ikenga Ugochinyere (PDP, Imo) & 33 co-sponsors also sought to divide the country into 6 geopolitical zones & establish a rotational system for the presidency & governorship within these zones

Additionally, it proposed that all elections be conducted on a single day. Lawmakers declined to allow the bill’s sponsor to lead the debate, which sought to amend key sections of the 1999 Constitution, including Sections 76, 116, 132 & 136

It sought to amend the provision of section 132 of the Constitution t by inserting a new subsection (2) deleting the extant subsection (4) & renumbering the entire section accordingly to provide that an election to the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria shall be rotated between the North & the South regions of the country every 6 years

He, therefore, prayed the court to strike out the lawsuit. Omorogbe said he did not know how the registry of the court would prepare any administrative process.

He opined that the writ already filed was invalid as it was not before the court. According to him, the writ bears the same suit number as the preemptive remedy proceedings.

Omorogbe further urged the court to withdraw a motion dated Oct. 18. He said the motion was a move to appeal on the ground that the claimants had admitted, there was an issue in respect to the preemptive proceedings.

Justice Dawodu, however, struck out the motion, following no objections from the claimants counsel. “I will give you a date for hearing because we are talking about a writ that is not before the court,” Dawodu said.

The judge thereafter adjourned the case until January 23, 2025 for hearing of the preliminary objections. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the court also adjourned the sister case involving Falz and VDM on the same ground.

An Ikeja High Court has scheduled January 23, 2025 to hear the defamation lawsuit filed against VeryDarkMan by human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, Folarin, also known as Falz.

When the case was called on Thursday, counsel to Falana and Falz, Mr Muiz Banire (SAN), informed the court that the claimants had filed the originating process and served to the parties.

Banire also said a motion on notice was served on Oct. 25, but Justice Matthias Dawodu said the originating process was not before the court.

The claimant’s counsel, however, prayed the court to adjourn the case to enable him file administrative processes.

In his response, counsel to VeryDarkMan, Mr Marvin Omorogbe, said it had been observed that there was no valid writ of summon before the court.

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has announced that all Nigerian women in need will now have access to free Cesarean sections (CS).

The statement was uploaded on the official X account of the Presidential Media Team on Thursday.

The announcement was made by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, on day 2 of the Joint Annual Review (JAR) conference.

Prof said, “This initiative is part of the new Maternal Mortality Reduction Innovation and Initiatives (MAMII) project.”He highlighted the government’s commitment to improving maternal and neonatal health in Nigeria.

He noted, “Nigeria continues to face significant health challenges, with maternal mortality at 512 deaths per 100,000 live births and neonatal mortality at 41 deaths per 1,000 live births. The country also has a low uptake of essential health services.

Oludayo Adeagbo, a British-Nigerian, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for his role in a multimillion-dollar business email compromise (BEC) scheme.

According to the US department of justice, Adeagbo, who also goes by John Edwards and John Dayo, conspired with others to steal over $3 million from different entities in Texas, including local government entities, construction companies, and a Houston-area college.

Adeagbo and conspirators also defrauded a North Carolina university of more than $1.9 million. The case began in August 2022 when Adeagbo and two other Nigerian citizens, Donald Echeazu, 42, and Olabanji Egbinola, 44, were extradited from the United Kingdom (UK), where they resided, to face charges of conspiracy, wire fraud, and money laundering.

The US department of justice said offences were committed in North Carolina, Texas, and Virginia. On April 8, Adeagbo pleaded guilty in two cases against him in North Carolina and Texas for participating in a business email compromise scheme.

Meanwhile, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has informed the public of a planned preventive maintenance operation on the Ife-Ondo 132kV transmission line scheduled for Wednesday, November 6, 2024. It was gathered that the maintenance will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., during which time power supply may be affected in the surrounding areas.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Ndidi Mbah, General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, disclosed the importance of the maintenance work to ensure the reliability and efficiency of the national grid.

Mbah explained that the exercise is necessary to enable TCN Lines Maintenance Engineers carry out trace maintenance between Towers 6 and 12. Consequently, Benin DisCo will not be able to offtake electricity to customers on the Ondo and Okitipupa 33kV feeders.

Bulk power supply will be restored immediately upon completion of the maintenance,” Mbah added.

They are arresting innocent people. They don’t even care whether you have passports or residence permits. They just don’t care, which doesn’t happen in other countries.

On social media, Libyan journalists and numerous bloggers are saying that Nigeria will be made to pay the $50,000 fine by arresting all Nigerians in Libya. But in other countries, nothing like that happens.

As the community leader, I received some videos showing that the arrests started last night in the Tedora area. They said the Libyan police have started arresting Nigerians, whether they have passports or not.

In a ruling on October 26, CAF’s disciplinary committee awarded the Super Eagles three points and three goals for the abandoned game. The panel also ordered the LFF to pay a fine of $50,000 within 60 days of the notification of the decision.

Displeased with the verdict, the LFF President Nasser Al-Suwai’I described it as “unjust and malicious,” alleging that the NFF’s influence within CAF played a major role in the outcome.

Mild drama unfolded at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday morning, November 1, when several teenagers arraigned by the Nigeria Police fainted, reportedly due to hunger.

The defendants, primarily teenagers, are being charged with 10 counts of t£rrorism, an attempt to overthrow the government, and alleged mutiny for their participation in the #EndBadGovernance protest that occurred from August 1st to 10th.

One of the defense lawyers, Marshall Abubakar, disclosed that the defendants were charged in two batches of 76 and 49.

However, few minutes after the first batch was called, the defendants were mounting the dock when some of them suddenly collapsed, causing confusion in court, a development that made the judge to suspend proceedings.

“A couple of them fainted inside the courtroom because of maltreatment, they haven’t eaten for some days,” a source said.

Google has been fined in Russia for removing Russian TV channels from YouTube.

The tech giant was fined a staggering 20 decillion dollars which is more than all the money in the world. The company is facing claims from 17 Russian TV channels after banning their accounts on YouTube, which it owns, as a result of international sanctions.

Pro-Kremlin channels involved in the case reportedly include Russia 1 and the platform belonging to Russia Today presenter & Putin mouthpiece Margarita Simonyan.

According to news report, Google began accumulating daily penalties of 100,000 rubles in 2020 after the pro-government media outlets Tsargrad and RIA FAN won lawsuits against the company for blocking their YouTube channels.

Those daily penalties have doubled each week, leading to the current overall fine of around 2 undecillion rubles. Google, whose parent company Alphabet reported a revenue of more than $307 billion in 2023, is unlikely to ever pay the incredibly high fine.

Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement on Wednesday, October 30, said Oluyede will hold sway as the COAS pending the return of Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, who is said to be indisposed and is receiving treatment abroad.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has appointed Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

A bill seeking to make Sharia law not just a personal matter in the constitution has been rejected in the House of Representatives.

The bill seeks to amend sections 24, 262 and 277 of the Constitution by removing “personal” in the application of Sharia law. The sponsor of the bill, Aliyu Missau, said commercial entities find it difficult to operate, noting that the constitution did not envisage entities like Jaiz and Taj banks.

However, many lawmakers interpreted the move as an attempt to broaden the scope of Shariah law, which is often limited to marriage, inheritance and other personal issues. Bamidele Salam, a lawmaker from Osun State, said the bill should be rejected because it has the potential to derail the freedom enjoyed by all religions in Nigeria.

“We must be careful with any changes to the Constitution that could further widen divisions in Nigeria. In any case, the matters my colleague seeks to address are already covered by existing laws,” he said.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, announced at an investor meeting during the ongoing IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., that the federal government is set to raise the VAT to 15%.

However, he emphasized that this increase would primarily target luxury goods, leaving essential items untouched to protect vulnerable populations.

Mr Edun confirmed that a bill currently before the National Assembly proposes a gradual increase in VAT for luxury items, while essential goods consumed by poorer Nigerians will either remain exempt from VAT or be subject to a zero rate.

“President Bola Tinubu’s commitment is that while implementing difficult and wide-ranging but necessary reforms, the poorest and most vulnerable will be protected,” Edun stated.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a loan of approximately $618 million from a consortium of financiers for the acquisition of six Italian-made M-346 att@ck jets and ammunition for the Nigerian Air Force.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Air Force had said that the first three jets are anticipated to arrive by early 2025, with subsequent deliveries expected to continue through mid-2026.

In recent years, the FG has significantly increased defence and security spending to combat various security threats across the nation, allocating about N3.3 trillion to the defence sector for the 2024 fiscal year.
