The tangible contributions of its forestsโtimber, non-timber forest produce (NTFP) such as medicinal plants, bamboo, tendu leaves, sal seeds, honey, and lacโare central to rural economies, supporting local industries, employment, and essential sustenance for nearby communities.
However, the intangible benefits of forests, including climate regulation, carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, water recharge, and cultural value, have often been overlooked. To bridge this gap, the Forest Department, under Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap, is quantifying these services through the concept of Green GDP. The initiative involves engaging expert consultants to assess how forest ecosystem services contribute to the State Gross Domestic Product (SGDP). โThis transformative step will not only highlight the invaluable contribution of forests but also guide sustainable economic planning,โ said Kedar Kashyap.

Industry experts see this as a positive move, particularly benefiting underserved groups like senior citizens and rural users, who have limited access to digital payment methods.
3.EPFO pension withdrawal simplification:
Pensioners under the Employeesโ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) will benefit from new rules allowing them to withdraw their pensions from any bankโs ATM. An IT system upgrade, Indiaโs Labour Ministry is actively developing to simplify and streamline the PF withdrawal process and enhance overall service and accessibility for retirees.
In September 2024, Indiaโs Minister of Labour and Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya, gave the green light to the Centralised Pension Payment System (CPPS). In a notification, the Ministry of Finance said, โBy virtue of the power vested in her by clause (1) of article 148 of the Constitution of India, the President has been pleased to appoint Shri K. Sanjay Murthy to be the Comptroller and Auditor General of India with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.โ
As the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, Murthy is tasked with overseeing the nationโs audit system, ensuring transparency and accountability in public financial management.
