Great to see an IAS officer being appointed once again as the UPSC Chairperson. I met ma’am during my training days in LBSNAA where she had come to deliver a lecture, and I can say, based on my interaction with her, she is a gem of a person. Hope UPSC will reach even greater heights under her able leadership.

I pray that this ongoing protest results in something fruitful for the aspirant community and these endemic problems get solved at the earliest. 🙏☮

Why urban flooding happens?

1. There is no proper underground water drainage or storm water drainage system to take away the excess rain water away from roads. And they are also quite expensive to construct. Many times state govt do not allot budget to construct them since their priorities may lie elsewhere.

2. Illegal constructions and encroachments in catchment areas/ buffer zones of the lakes or in river floodplains which disrupts the natural flow of water in case of excess rains. Most of the time such constructions are carried by influential builders who have strong support of local politicians.

3. Desilting and declogging of drains not being done by municipal authorities before monsoon season - this is an easy task which can help reduce flooding up to some extent.

None of the above is taken care of in Delhi and hence resulting in such unfortunate incidents.

Given the recent horrific incident in Delhi ORN area resulting in loss of life of aspirants, this is not the first incident and unfortunately, it won’t be the last.

I would strongly advice against going and staying in ORN for UPSC. I never stayed in ORN, never took any coaching. Today everything is available online - online classes, test series, online material in pdf form, Delhi courier wallahs will send printed material to your doorstep, etc.
Buy a good laptop and iPad from the money saved from not going to Delhi and use them to study and make notes.

People used to go to Karol Bagh to prepare but it was the case when there was no Internet and people hardly knew about UPSC in smaller towns and villages. Today, ORN has nothing to offer but misery, depression and lately, death. The place is literally unliveable and highly expensive without offering much in return.

Hence, try to stay at home and study in your hometown. Prepare in the safety of your home.
