EKSU RANKING, PRODUCT OF COMPETENT LEADERSHIP - AKANDE

A former Governor of Osun State and a National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Adebisi Akande, has attributed the recent ranking of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti as the best state university in Nigeria by Times Higher Education to a product of knowledgeable leadership.

Chief Akande made the remark while receiving the Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele and other Principal Officers of the University during a courtesy visit to his residence in Ila Orangun, Osun State.

While commending the university Management on the various achievements recorded in the university in recent times, most especially, the recent ranking which has placed EKSU in the front line among the comity of Nigerian universities, the political stalwart advocated holistic migration from traditional ways of doing things in our educational institutions in order to avert the risk of being left behind in the global competitiveness.

According to the elder statesman, 'if you want global competition, you can't wait", emphasizing further that, universities should avoid producing graduates that could not add value to the economy. He also maintained that award of degrees without relevant skills required for national growth and economic development should be discouraged in Nigerian educational curriculum. According to him, "going to school is not work, but the beginning of learning how to work".

The former Governor, who is also an alumnus of the university, received the university Management with great joy because of the good news he had heard about the university.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele, while delivering his speech, stated that the university needed a well experienced National leader like Chief Bisi Akande, who he described as a lover of peace and progress for fatherly advice.

Professor Ayodele informed the gathering that no student graduates from the university without acquiring relevant skills in one vocation or the other, such that would be enough to prepare such student for profitable engagements after graduating from the university instead of hunting for white collar job.

He thanked the former Governor for his hospitality going by the warm reception accorded the delegation from the university.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, the approval to commence its Pharmacy programme starting from the 2024/2025 academic session.

The approval, which marks a significant milestone in the institution's academic development, was conveyed in a letter dated December 19, 2024. The letter, signed by Abubakar Girei, Acting Director of Academic Planning, on behalf of the Acting Executive Secretary of the Commission, confirmed the establishment of a full-time mode of the Doctor of Pharmacy programme.

With this nod, EKSU will now initiate the process of admitting pioneer students into the newly established Faculty of Pharmacy, fulfilling a long-anticipated ambition to expand its academic offerings.

Reacting to the development, the Deputy Registrar and Head of the Directorate of Information and Corporate Affairs, Bode Olofinmuagun, described the approval as a testament to the university's commitment to excellence and innovation in academics.

The Management of Ekiti State University, Ado - Ekiti has appealed to stakeholders, particularly students to be calm as a result of the issues surrounding the marginal adjustment in the fees payable by the prospective students of the university in the 2024/2025 academic session.

The Governing Council of the university, after carefully considering the economic realities of the country viz a viz the need to provide quality service took the decision to marginally increase the fees payable by the prospective students of the university with effect from the 2024/2025 academic session.


This decision was also taken in order to complement the monthly government been reviewed upward by the Ekiti State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, who is also the Visitor to the university.

For the purpose of clarity, operational costs in the university have increased occasioned by the increase in prices of goods and services by about 200% due to high inflation. Yet, the Governing Council of the university only adjusted the fees payable by freshers ONLY BY 50%.It is equally important to state that there is the dire need for the university to keep the system running in terms of the provision of quality as well as state of the art facilities to ensure that the university is relevant in the comity of universities across the globe.

The been universities in Nigeria (Federal, State and Private). Ekiti State University, Ado - Ekiti is, therefore, not an exception.For the avoidance of doubt, the marginal increase affects ONLY FRESHERS, while the fees payable by stalites are not in any way affected. Also, the acceptance fees to be paid by freshers are not affected even when many other universities increased their acceptance fees.
It is a verifiable fact that EKSU fees are very affordable compared with most state universities and many Federal universities, not to talk of fees being charged per term by many private secondary schools across the country.

*SUBJECT: MEETING WITH THE DEAN OF STUDENT AFFAIRS ON NELFUND DISBURSEMENT AND STUDENT WELFARE ISSUES.*

Earlier today, we held a meeting with the Dean of Student Affairs and the Deputy Dean. The meeting, organized by the Welfare Committee and accompanied by the Chief of Staff, focused on the NELFund issue and its impact on students. Many students expected the loan to be disbursed in time for exams, but the Dean explained that due to a low application rate from EKSU students, the disbursement timeline was delayed. He mentioned that the funds is being processed and will be disbursed in due course.

The Chief of Staff inquired about possible support for students who couldn’t participate in the exams. Notably, some religious institutions have stepped up with fundraising efforts to assist affected students. The Dean reassured us that the loan disbursement will happen as planned
and the Deputy Dean promised there would be a follow-up meeting to address any further concerns.

Additionally, the Dean shared that they will be meeting with the Directorate of GST to address the concerns raised by the welfare committee regarding GST results and other related issues.

Other issues concerning the student community were also discussed.

Dear Students,

I want to believe you are getting the required practical skills in your ongoing SIWES.

Please note that Supervisors (Lecturers) will soon come for supervision at your place of IT any moment from November, 2024. The first thing is to make yourself available in your place of IT EVERYDAY.

Secondly, note that *NO STUDENT WILL BE ATTENDED TO WITHOUT THE UNIVERSITY LOGBOOK AND FORM 8.*

If you are yet to pay your tuition for the second Semester 2023/2024, you are not part of those to be visited and assessed. Student who failed to be assessed by lecturers/supervisors automatically carries the SIWES Course, meaning an extra semester and year as the case may be._eksu bro_

You are hereby advised to get your logbook and form 8 from the EKSU-SIWES office before the commencement of this exercise. Again, No student will be attended to after the exercise. Lecturers have been informed not to attend to students without the Logbook.

Senator Opeyemi Bamidele Facilitates Another #1 Billion Projects in EKSU

The Senate Leader, Senator (Dr.) Michael Opeyemi Bamidele has facilitated the construction of a #1 billion 500 capacity Computer Based Examination (CBE) Centre in Ekiti State University, Ado – Ekiti.p

A press release on Thursday made available to NewsHereandThere by Deputy Registrar/Head, Directorate of Information & Corporate Affairs. Bode Olofinmuagun anipr stated that the project which is expected to be completed and handed over to the university is sited at the Directorate of General Studies (GST) of the university.

“At the foundation laying ceremony of the project, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Babatola Ayodele expressed the university’s appreciation to Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, who he described as a God -sent benefactor to Ekiti State University, Ado – Ekiti.

“The Vice Chancellor highlighted Senator Bamidele’s interventions in the university to include the construction of Medical hostels, construction of a 2 kilometre road and construction of an FM radio station for the use of the students of Mass Communication, among others.

“Professor Ayodele remarked that the university would always be grateful to the Senate Leader for the project which would add more value to the university and promised that it would be judiciously utilized.”

Earlier, the Director, Directorate of General Studies, Professor Bolanle Eniola hinted that she approached the Senate Leader for the intervention as a way of adding value to the Directorate, as well as alleviating its accommodation challenges. She also appreciated the Senate Leader for his benevolent gesture.
