Two Undergraduate Students of Theatre And Media Arts, EKSU Reportedly Drown in Ero Dam

A tragic event has reportedly taken place at the Ero Dam in Ekiti State, resulting in the loss of two undergraduate students from Ekiti State University (EKSU). The individuals, Oluwatobiloba Osho and Oladimeji Victor, were said to be studying in the Department of Theatre Arts and were last seen on January 17, 2025, around 5 PM.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the students had traveled to Igogo Ekiti for a research project and rehearsal related to Theatre For Development (TFD). After completing their assignment, a group of fifteen out of twenty-five students allegedly decided to remain at the Ero Dam in Okun Ekiti for sightseeing.

During this outing, one student encountered difficulties in the water while attempting to stay afloat, leading to a rescue effort that unfortunately resulted in another student being swept away.

This incident prompted a search and rescue operation involving local police and fishermen. While the authorities have yet to officially determine the cause of the students' disappearance, local residents fear that they may have drowned.

Police Public Relations Officer Sunday Abutu confirmed the students' status as missing but noted that the police could not yet verify the circumstances surrounding their disappearance. He assured the public that a dedicated search and rescue team, including local fishermen, is actively working to find the missing individuals.

An investigation into the circumstances of this incident is currently underway.

EKSU SMART SCHOOL UPDATE

Good news!!!! Good news!!! Good news!!!!

Dear Eksuites,

Compliments of the season to you.
We pray that this year brings more blessings and prosperity for us all.

In order to make our services more enjoyable and long-lasting monthly by all students, the school management has requested that we upgrade the monthly data allocation of each student to 20GB. This means that students are now entitled to 20GB worth of monthly data henceforth, rather than the former 10GB.

In addition, as part of our CSR efforts to complement the academic prowess of all EKSUITES and the entire EKSU community, we have introduced our CUG sims which are now available at a subsided sum of 1,000 Naira per sim and a monthly subscription of 500 Naira. With this CUG students can now communicate unlimitedly via phone calls both on campus and outside campus. This will indeed promote group work and further cut the cost for students on their daily communications need. This sim cards are readily available at our office Room 4 Omolayo Building, EKSU.

Furthermore, to assure you of our un-wavering support and continued dedication to delivering pervasive network services in EKSU, our management has approved the expansion of network services to the following buildings/areas;

1. EKSU Main Gate (Field area)
2. UBA Gate area.
3. Fac. Of Multidisciplinary studies
4. The new faculty of science laboratories
5. The new faculty of science pavilion
6. 1050 seaters hall
7. Faculty of science twin hall
8. School library
9. Faculty of Social Science twin hall.

The expansion process has commenced, and all the aforementioned sites will be running as soon as possible.

Above all, we want to thank you for your cooperation, support and understanding.

*CONDITIONAL CANCELATION OF PLANNED PROTEST AND ULTIMATUM TO NURTW*

*GREAT EKSU STUDENTS*!!!!!

Following extensive dialogue/consultations with key stakeholders, security agencies, and the university management, we wish to inform the entire student body that the planned protest originally scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled .

We acknowledge the frustration caused by the recent hike in transportation fares, and we are actively exploring all ways to resolve this issue. To this end, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) operating in the Iworoko axis has been given 48 hours to reverse the fare to ₦500. Failure to comply will compel us to re-evaluate our options.

*Reasons for Cancellation:*

1. Security Concerns
2. Ongoing Dialogue with Stakeholders
3. Impact on Academic Activities
4. Free Transportation Options
5. Time for NURTW to Comply

*Important Notes:*
1. Students are strongly advised to utilize the free transportation buses provided by the state government and should “not pay the excessive ₦700 fare” to any “Akoto” transport.
2. The protest and all related activities has been cancelled.
3. Avoid any unauthorized gatherings that may compromise safety.
4.Regular university activities will continue without disruption.

Your cooperation is appreciated as we work towards a fair resolution.

#500 naira only!!!!
#We no fit pay 700!!!

*Thank you.*

*PENALTY FOR UPPLOAD OF WRONG/ UNBEFITTING PASSPORT ON PORTAL:*

It is no more news that EKSU has made it mandatory for all graduands certificates to bear their respective passports.. It has been realized that some students are yet to even upload a passport until now.

According to an insider, some immoral pictures are also uploaded by students on portal as passport, which has made the management to reproduce a lot of certificates as pictures with BRA, twisted tongue, turned buttocks cannot appear on certificates of the university.

The University has laid emphasis on this, and now The penalty for not uploading a white background and an unbefitting passport is #40,000.
