Reposting yet another time

Please apply these rules to the PYQs of the last 5 years to see for yourselves whether they work. Depending on the success rate of these techniques, make a decision as to which of them you want to use in the actual exam and when. Approx success rate should be around 70%. But they are unlikely to work in the mock exams.

Statements that tend to be wrong

1. Extreme statements (most obvious)
2. Statements with continuously / steadily increasing or decreasing for a certain number of years
3. Statements with numbers / data (recent years not working well though)
4. Statements with names of institutions / ministries / international organizations
5. Statements with - According to the constitution, constitution of India defines / prescribes / classifies
6. The all of the above option (exception - science and tech questions)
7. None of the above option
8. Statements with ‘but’, ‘whereas’ and ‘while’ in the middle.
9. Schemes, programmes where beneficiaries are too wide
10. Statements with because / due to
11. Statements which are not objective. Ex- Office of Profit is ‘well defined’ in the constitution.
12. For a statement to be true it must be verifiable, if it’s not verifiable it’s wrong. Ex- Chausath Yogini temple is the only circular temple in India. (This is not verifiable, so it’s wrong)

Statements that tend to be right

1. Statements with ‘can’
2. Statements with some / might / may / more than / less than / more often / less often / sometimes
3. In questions with matching pairs - two of the pairs (very very risky bet)
4. Application of any technology - all of the above
5. Statements with aim / objective of the scheme
6. Among the 4 options if two are very similar, the correct answer tends to be one of the two similar statements
7. Among the 4 options if two are opposites of each other, then one of them is correct
8. Among the options, the one with a topic you’ve often seen in the news tends to be correct
9. Sources of pollution - all of the above
10. In Ancient / Medieval India questions, terms related to administrative or economic activity tend to be correct. Ex - ports, coins, measurement of land etc.
11. Statements that are impossible to prove wrong will be right. Ex - The women in Vijayanagara Empire were experts in Wrestling, Astrology, Accounting and Soothsaying. (There is no way you can prove it wrong, so its got to be right)
