Books vs Movies(Which do you prefer?)

I asked this question sometime ago on here and majority of you said that you preferred books. You guys said that you preferred books because it allows you imagine stuff and alladat.

While I agree with you, I'm here to take this discussion from another angle that may shake some tables😂😂.

When I asked this question, majority of you said that you preferred books because you were looking at it from the angle of fictional books. At least that's what I garnered from the responses you guys gave.

However, today, I'll be looking at it from the angle of non-functional books.

Let's dig in!

This year, compare the number of books you have read to the number of movies you have watched. Be honest with yourself.

I have a good feeling that majority of you have watched more movies than you have read books. I'm not here to judge you, I'm just here to make you
have a rethink so that the next time you are asked this question, you give it a second thought before answering.

This is very important for my fellow writers because, the more books you read, the better you get at writing(I'll create a post on this later).

Secondly, be honest with yourself. If you were told to choose between reading a non-fictional book(e.g about an event or a life-changing book), and watching a movie addressing that same issue, which would you choose?

Again like I said earlier, I am not here to judge anyone. I just really want my fellow writers on here especially to see that they may have been the ones limiting their creativity by not reading enough materials. (not saying that your creativity can't be expanded if you watch movies tho)(Let the reader understand what I am saying).

Lastly, for leisure, would you just pick up a book and read or watch a movie? Do you see reading as a hobby, or a chore? That's left for you to think about.

PS: The point of this post was for my fellow writers to rethink and improve on their reading capacity if they're not doing so already because reading is very essential for you as a writer(especially reading properly written materials).

Also, I wanted others who have blindly chosen 'books' as their preferred option to have a rethink.

Lastly, I wanted to create a somewhat fun and maybe controversial content today😂. It's not everytime I will be loading you guys with information.

Today, I'll be concluding the series on long-form and short-form content.

Sola has one hour to create written content for his company's new product. He was also given limited resources to create the content.

What content type do you think he'll go for?
If you guessed short-form content then you guessed right.

Tania wants to write an article talking about the various fun places to visit in Paris. She wants to create the post on LinkedIn. What content type do you think she'll opt for?
Your guess is as good as mine. Long-form content.

Damien is new to the writing space. He's still trying to learn the nutty gritties of writing. He is also trying to build his brand and engrave his pieces in the hearts of many. What content type do you think he'll go for?
Short-form content is a sure bet for him.

Apryl is trying to sell a product to a Gen Z audience. What content type will she go for?
Short-form content of course! Ain't no Gen Z got time to read a long article.

I also wanted to be sure that you've actually understood all that I have told you before now about long-form and short-form content.

Hi guys, welcome or welcome back to another edition of Ucee's write-up.

Today, I'll be continuing the series I started last week on short-form and long-form content.

Let's dig in!

In 2019, Buzzsumo found that roughly 75% of B2B brands are still primarily producing short-form content and they do so because it caters to short attention spans.

A Moz study in collaboration with this same Buzzsumo also found that content with more than 1,000 words(long-form content), earned more shares and links than content under 1000 words. This study considered more than a million websites.

Sounds contradictory right?

Well, it's not. It just goes to show you that there are different strokes for different folks.

It also goes to show you that between long-form and short-form content, no one outrules the other.

I just debunked a myth that some people may have had.

In this game of long-form and short-form content, from the consumers POV, it depends on the individuals and their preferences. It also depends on their love for the brand and it's reputation built overtime.

For example, one may say, and even have stats to back it up that in this digital age, people have shorter attention span.

However, there are still several consumers out there that don't mind reading a 5,000 word article. These set of people have to be catered for as well in our content strategy because they can also contribute massively to ROI.

Infact, some people who ordinarily dislike long-form content, don't mind reading it so far as it answers their question entirely.

This is because reading a short-form content may require you to open different sites just to get a comprehensive information. Information that could be got by focusing on a single piece of long-form content.

I know I mentioned last week that long-form content builds brand credibility and trust, but when that trust is built, consumers don't mind consuming short-form content when you want to give updates or announce new products.

Also, when you have built a strong community around your brand, whatever content type you release, your loyal community members won't miss it.

Lastly, on a general note, when a content is educational, entertaining e.t.c, whether it's long or short-form, consumers tend to view it and share.

Here's a piece of advice I'll give you. If you are just starting out in content writing, just try out the two content types over a period of time.

Whichever one you see that works best, i.e generates more engagements, shares, and visibility e.t.c. When you have discovered that content type, continue serving your audience with it.

However, don't forget to switch things up once in a while when your audience
increases the more, because you will also be attracting diverse sets of people, and you have to cater to them.

Never forget, as a content or copy writer, content marketer, e.t.c, you need to prioritize the people.

Short form vs Long form content (Which one does it for you?)

Hi guys welcome or welcome back to another edition of Ucee's write-up.

Today, I'll be laying a preamble for the above topic to prepare you for all I will be saying in the next couple of weeks.

I created a poll a while back asking you guys if you preferred long-form or short form content, or content in-between.

Majority of you that answered the poll preferred short-form.

I can understand that.

However, I am here to tell you that you might also want to consider long-form content.

This is especially if you as a writer chose the short-form content option.
I'll tell you why.

And don't worry, I'll talk about the consumers too😉.

📍 Long-form articles help you build authority and credibility

📍Google will always choose to show long-form articles with the same key-words as a short-form one

📍 Long-form content generates higher returns.

For my consumers; You might want to consider long-form content because:
📍It will build a reading habit

📍It will make you wiser

📍It will help in your industry(whichever you may find yourself in).

The Entrepreneur's Soft Skills

Ola, let’s talk about building up your mental space. Being an entrepreneur isn’t just about products or services—it’s about the personal values and principles you carry. Over time, these values tend to shape and resonate within your business.

Let’s take a step back for a moment. You’ve probably heard the saying, “You are what you eat.” The decisions you make are often a reflection of what you’ve consumed—whether it’s knowledge, experiences, or influences. If you don’t believe in resilience as an entrepreneur, your business is less likely to thrive. If all you’ve ever been told is to “play it small and safe,” scaling up and competing with the big players will seem out of reach.

So, here’s my advice:

Read books. Learn from others who’ve walked this path.

Engage in thought-provoking conversations. They challenge your perspective and ignite growth.

Execute immediately. As Codie Sanchez pointed out on the Diary of a CEO podcast, entrepreneurs who act on what they learn right away outperform those who hesitate or delay.


Ignore the fact that I’ve “yabbed” you in the past (😂), but seriously, don’t forget to take action. It’s tough, but it’s necessary. Even if you fail, remember what Vusi Thembakwayo said: “An entrepreneur’s job is to make fast decisions and correct them later.”

Ola, your journey as an entrepreneur starts with the small, consistent steps you take today. Never stop pushing yourself.

Welcome or welcome back to another edition of Ucee's write-up
Today, I’ll be concluding the series I started a while back, where I compared written and video content from different points of view. So today, I’ll be addressing it from the company's POV.
Let's dig in!
Some people may just assume that companies would choose video content over written content because the stats show that including video on a landing page can increase conversion by 80%.

While this may be the case, research shows that companies don't always opt for video content because a company's choice of content depends on a number of factors such as; the target audience, the content’s purpose, the time available for the content to be created, and the funds available.

Today, I’ll be explaining briefly, when companies use video, and when they use written content.

📍When a company launches a new product, e.g an complex electronic, and they want to demonstrate to people, how to use it, video content definitely comes in handy because for a hands-on product like that, written content won't do justice to the explanation, and may even leave prospective users more confused.

📍For companies that are focused on enlightening people, written content will take first place. For example, a health related company that is focused on enlightening people about illnesses and alladat, written content will be better. This is because it will be able to address the issue from various angles as against video content that is quite short.

📍 Startups may more often than not, opt for written content because it is a cheaper option, as opposed to video content which will require purchase of a lot of filming equipment. As we all know, startups most often run on limited amount of money so they can't afford to spend all their money on marketing their company, when they aren't even sure if they will recover their money from the use of video for marketing.

📍Lastly, if the company's target audience is made up of teens and youths, then video content is obviously the better option. A teen or youth is more likely to watch a video than read a long article because this age bracket has a short attention span.

I’ll conclude by saying this. It is not cast in stone which content type companies prefer. Some companies like CUCC, use both for their marketing, to be able to reach their different audiences.

My advice is this:

Instead of just following the stats, and using video content, find out what works best for your company and do that.

Also, for my fellow writers, don't feel pressured to go into video because you feel like video content creators are in higher demand and are cashing out more.

Instead, seek to be the best writer in your niche so that you won't be neglected. I hope this helps😁.

For most artists inspiration is that one thing that helps us create some of our best works, but it can also hinder us from ever creating anything in the first place.

Written content vs Video Content (The Consumer’s POV)

Hi guys welcome or welcome back to another edition of Ucee's write-up. Today is a continuation of our last week's series.

On today's episode, I'll be comparing written and video content from the consumer's POV.

Come along with me 😉.

In the olden days, the major form of video content we had was on television and it wasn't even referred to as ‘content’ per se. I remember looking forward to watching soap operas like Nnenna and Friends, Papa Ajasco, Super Story, Needle’s eye.

Then, there was internet, but online content wasn't a thing at the time. Then, as a child, for entertainment you either read story books from authors like Enid Blyton, or watched Disney Channel or Nickelodeon.

However, even then, you barely heard children talk about the books they read, it was majorly Disney or Nickelodeon. And as for adults, it was all about ‘em soap operas.

You can see that right from time, video content has always been preferred.

Infact nowadays, people would rather watch YouTube videos or IG reels and skits, than read blog posts.(Except ofc, gossip or gist).

Even in the academia, students learn better and faster, by watching YouTube videos than by reading course materials.

As a writer myself, I’m ashamed to say that I watch more YouTube videos than I read articles or blogs (I’m sure I am not the only one in this boat). Y'all should confess ohh😂.

With all these, I make bold to say that from the consumer’s POV, video content is more preferred than written content.

Written Content vs Video Content (The Creator's POV)
Hi guys welcome or welcome back to another edition of Ucee's write-up. Today, I’ll be starting a very interesting series, so come along with me, and let's have fun 😜 .

In today’s episode, I'll be comparing written and video content from my POV. So in this case, I am the creator, and I will be comparing what it takes to create written and video content to post online. This excludes movies (of any kind) and books 📚 because those take a lot of time to work on.

This is a disclaimer❗I know that not everyone will agree with what I am saying here, which is why I mentioned earlier that it is my opinion, so if you have a contrary opinion, kindly state it in a very respectful manner.

That being said, let's move on.

As a creator, I prefer to create written content because I just feel it's faster to put together than video content. Now don't get me wrong, I know how much brainwork, and concentration goes into each write-up I post on here. I also know how much time I spend editing, just to make sure there's no error. I also have to make sure that I speak the language y’all can relate to, cuz Lord knows that I can be a millennial in the way I write sometimes 😅.

Despite all this, I still feel it's easier to create written content because nowadays, we tend to be faster in typing because of our smartphones, and other gadgets.

Also, because of auto-correct, and other writing apps, we as writers don't have to do all the corrections ourselves. This is of course as against video content which I feel is double work because most times, they write the content first of all, before filming.

Even when they don't have to write✍️ it down, the whole process of filming, and editing is just a lot. From finding the perfect location to film, to the time used to edit. The few times I have been asked to create video content, I know how stressful it was trying to find the perfect location, and to make sure the videos were clear.

Let's not forget how expensive it is to get filming gear⚙️, even if it's the fairly used ones. For writers, we don't need any gear, just our pen 🖋️ and paper 🗞️ (if you choose to write here first before posting online), or any smartphone will do.

Video content creators also have a barrier in the sense that they can't fil every and anywhere because of noise, and restrictions in some places. However, as a writer, I can write anywhere, even if there's noise, all I need to do is to plug my earpiece, and I am good to go.

I have a feeling that I am not the only one who thinks 🤔 this way. If you agree with me, let me hear🙉 your thoughts. I’d also love to hear your thoughts if you have a different POV as well.

I’ll just drop this advice for someone that may need to hear this. If you want to start out in content creation, the easiest form of content to create is written content. You can still move to video content later but make money from written content firat so that you can have enough to invest in proper filming gear.

So the academy has cohorts every year, which lasts for four months, and if you meet the class attendance mark, you will be moved to the internship stage. Here, you get to practice what you've learnt. Also, on the group, they have LinkedIn optimisation sessions on a weekly basis. If you're seeking to optimize your LinkedIn profile, this one's for you. The founder is currently teaching some students how to create content on FB, using AI generated models, so that they can get monetized on there. 3 tips to improve your writing

Hi guys welcome or welcome back to another edition of Ucee's write-up. As you can see from my post today I will be giving you guys solid tips to improve your writing.

Today, I'll be giving you guys three tested and trusted tips to improve your writing skills. You're welcome 🤗.

📍Have mentors: Mentorship is very important in all areas of life because like Isaac Newton said 'If I have seen any further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants'. The importance of having a mentor as a writer can't be overemphasized. As a writer, for you to be better, you have to have someone that has gone ahead of you. This person would serve as a guide because he/she would have passed through whatever challenges that you may be passing through and as such, will help you navigate.

📍Write diverse kinds of write-ups: Come out of your comfort zone and write content outside of your regular niche. The more you write, the better you get at it, and you'll see that you'll become a better writer overall.

📍Be open to constructive criticism: A lot of people can't take criticism. Take note however, I said 'constructive criticism' because I know that some people don't know how to talk. They'll just rubbish your writing 😭. However, look for a friend, it could even be your mentor, that will look at your work, and tell you the truth, not lie to you so that you won't feel bad.
