Devotees and well wishers gathered this evening as Pujya Yogendra Swami visited BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Leicester.

Pujya Yogendra Swami served as Kothari (head) of Surat Mandir for over 11 years and also composed many Kirtans including “Aje Umang Mara Antar & Ap Rijho Em Raji”

He shared inspiring prasangs and incidents from the life of Pramukh Swami Maharaj and also from Mahant Swami Maharaj’s recent visit to Africa, where he was present.

Devotees gathered at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Leicester, this evening for a special Sabha in the presence of Pujya Shukmuni Swami, who played a pivotal role as the lead Sant in the planning and construction of our glorious Mandir, which was inaugurated in 2011.

In his Katha, he spoke about key messages from Mahant Swami Maharaj’s life and the importance of having Samp (unity) at home, in Mandir and in all aspects of our lives.

Today we celebrated Prabodhini Ekādashi, also known as Dev Uthi Ekadashi.

It is the 11th lunar day (Ekādashi) in the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) of the Hindu month of Kārtik. It marks the end of the four-month period of Chaturmas, when Lord Vishnu is believed to sleep. Lord Vishnu sleeps on Shayani Ekādashi and wakes on Prabodhini Ekadashi, thus giving this day the name "Prabodhini Ekadashi" ("awakening eleventh") and Dev Uthi Ekadashi ("'God's awakening").

Devotees in the Swaminarayan tradition offer a 'Hātadi' to God in the Mandirs. This is similar to Annakut, except here, fresh, raw vegetables are offered and arranged in cane baskets in front of Bhagwan. The inherent sentiment is that everything is God given and this we offer back to Bhagwan.

This weekend, to commemorate Remembrance Sunday, devotees at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Leicester, prayed for the brave souls who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.

The Mandir has also been lit up in red to mark the occasion.

We honour and remember all the British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women, including the hundreds of thousands of Indian soldiers, who fought and died in the two World Wars and later conflicts. We thank them for their dedication and courage. We are forever grateful.

Today is Ramā Ekādashi which marks the beginning of the Diwali festivities. Vāgh Bāras also falls in this day. This evening, bhajans were held in the Mandir with Pujya Tyagratna Swami giving an inspiring talk ahead of festivities.

We are pleased to share the detailed timings for the Diwali and Hindu New Year Celebrations taking place at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Leicester.

1️⃣ Tuesday 29 October - DHAN TERAS (Pujan to be conducted at home with one’s family)

The most auspicious time for Lakshmi Pujan - ‘dhan dhovānu muhurt’ - is 6.26pm to 7.30pm.

2️⃣ Thursday 31 October - DIWALI 🪔

🛕 Mandir Darshan: 7.30am - 8.00pm
📿 Sharda Pujan: 6.00pm - 7.00pm
🎆 Fireworks Display: 7.30pm - 8.00pm

3️⃣ Saturday 2 November- ANNAKUT / HINDU NEW YEAR 🎇

🙏🏼 Annakut Darshan: 11.00am - 8.00pm
🍽️ Food stalls: 11.00am - 8.30pm

On this sacred occasion of Sharad Purnima, the divine radiance of the first full moon after the monsoon season is celebrated, which brings a unique spiritual energy. Hindus partake in ritual observances such as offering flowers and sweet kheer to the murtis as a form of bhakti (devotion) - symbolising purity and divine nourishment.

In the BAPS Swaminarayan tradition, this night is also the birth anniversary of Aksharbrahma Gunatitanand Swami, the first spiritual successor of Bhagwan Swaminarayan and considered as the epitome of the ideal devotee. Let us remember the wisdom of Gunatitanand Swami, engage in devotional activities, and share the joy of this festival with our loved ones.

We pray to Gunatitanand Swami to fill our hearts with peace and inspiration and that the divine glow of Sharad Purnima remains with us forever.

On Saturday 12 October we were delighted to welcome Kevin Hubbard, Team Leader for Community Safety at Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service to BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Leicester.

With Diwali coming up, he provided key information about how to stay safe over the festive period including safety in the kitchen, using divas and candles and safety with fireworks.

A big thank you to Kevin and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service for providing this information and helping to keep our community safe!

The new BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir on Gipsy Lane in Leicester was inaugurated by Pujya Ishwarcharandas Swami and Pujya Anandswarupdas Swami.

On 24 March 2011, Pramukh Swami Maharaj had performed the pratishtha pujan in Sarangpur.
