This week’s AXIA Weekly Trader Perspective features insights from one of our Senior Traders in the London office, sharing their experience of trading during the US Election.

“On election night, betting markets initially gave Trump a 60% edge, reflecting a “Trump premium.” However, the Selzer poll from the prior weekend introduced two-way risk, creating an unpredictable evening. Early results at 12:00 AM favoured Republicans, with momentum building after Georgia independents leaned toward Trump.

The turning point came at 12:25 AM when Miami-Dade County, a Democratic stronghold, showed Trump leading, presenting the night’s top trading opportunity.

Republican momentum persisted, making it hard for latecomers to re-enter. At 4:30 AM, odds briefly shifted toward Democrats due to close House races but quickly returned to Republicans, sealing the night’s outcome.”

Today at AXIA, traders focused on speculation surrounding potential end-of-month stimulus from China, leading to significant movements in both copper prices and Asian stocks.

This surge was fueled by remarks from China’s President, who underscored the importance of economic stability. Markets interpreted these comments as a hint towards further stimulus, prompting early action in the UK trading hours.

In the U.S., the dollar strengthened following the JOLTS report, which revealed a decline in job openings to 7.443 million for September—below the expected 7.98 million—adding new complexity to the market outlook, according to the Bureau of Labour Statistics and Investing.com.

In last week’s AXIA Weekly Trader Perspective, we spoke with one of our Senior Traders at our London office about when they started trading and why they got into it.

Here’s what the Senior Trader had to say:

“If anyone says they didn’t get into trading for the money, I don’t believe them. That’s what attracted me initially. Since then, it’s also the fact that every day is different, and I really enjoy trading. I started trading and looking at markets during my A-level years at school. I then went to university to study finance and tried trading while there. As my degree was finishing, I saw a job advert for a runner at Axia. I got the job. This gave me screen time and a seat with Axia’s elite traders. I then managed to build great relationships with these traders and learned everything I know from them. Without that experience and their guidance, I wouldn’t be a trader. Sometimes, when you don’t have industry connections, you have to start at the bottom to build them.“

Trading Motivation With AXIA:

“Every trader has strengths and weaknesses. Some are good holders of winners but may hold their losses a little too long. Others may cut their wins a little short but are quick to take their losses. As long as you stick to your own style, you get the good and bad in your own approach.”

In last week’s AXIA Weekly Trader Perspective, we spoke with one of our Senior Traders at our London office about trades where they had to cut their losses quicker than usual due to a change in the market and how did they decide it was time to exit the trade. Here’s what this Senior Trader had to say:

Last week, Fed Waller’s speech after the NFP report caused significant market movement. As it was likely the last chance to gauge sentiment before the FOMC blackout, his comments were closely watched for hints about the upcoming meeting. Bloomberg’s summary suggested a dovish stance, leading to an initial sharp market reaction. However, a deeper reading of the speech revealed it was less dovish than implied, and short-term US interest rate products were aggressively repriced lower, resulting in record trading volumes. This highlighted the need to go beyond initial headlines and understand the full context of the speech. By observing market behaviour and trading based on a thorough analysis.

In yesterday’s AXIA Live Market Analysis, Richard navigated a day marked by low P&Ls and subdued activity. Despite the slow pace, potential opportunities were brewing beneath the surface. Key patterns emerged across markets: Bund neared a breakout above 174.69, the S&P showed vulnerability around 5594, and Gold tested resistance at 47.

Richard emphasised the importance of patience and precise timing—advising against forcing trades in a quiet market. Instead, he suggested focusing on identifying where the next big move might emerge. By understanding these dynamics, you’d be well-positioned when market momentum accelerated.
