3) The G-20 Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Working Group ministerial meeting was held in Belem, Brazil, highlighting India's commitment to global disaster risk reduction efforts.

4) Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia inaugurated the 25th meeting of the South Asian Telecommunication Regulators' Council (SATRC-25) in New Delhi.

=> The total non-fossil fuel capacity, including nuclear energy, rose to 211.36 GW in 2024, compared to 186.46 GW in 2023.

Vishnupad Temple and Mahabodhi Temple
o Context: The Finance Minister announced in the recent Union Budget Speech that corridor projects
will be built for the Vishnupad Temple and the Mahabodhi Temple.
o Vishnupad Temple:
✓ Dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is located in Gaya, Bihar.
✓ Built by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar in 1787 on the banks of the Phalgu River. Hence statement 1 is correct & statement 2 is not correct.
✓ The temple is around 100 feet tall and has 44 pillars.
✓ Contains Dharmasila, a footprint of Lord Vishnu etched into a slab of basalt.
✓ Constructed using large grey granite stones joined with iron clamps.

✓ One of the four sacred sites associated with the life of Lord Buddha.

The annual U.N. Climate Change Conference (COP29) kicked off in Baku, Azerbaijan, today.
-> Dubbed the ‘Finance COP,’ the two-week-long event will focus heavily on securing a new climate finance target for countries most vulnerable to climate impacts.
-> For India and the Global South, access to finance, technology, and energy resources remains critical to meeting climate targets and protecting communities on the frontlines of climate change.
-> India has so far played a key role in shaping global climate finance frameworks to address the urgent funding needed for both mitigation and adaptation efforts.

-> At Baku, India will seek a New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) for climate finance, which is far ahead of the outdated 100 billion dollar annual target set in 2009.
-> India’s Economic Survey 2023-24 indicates that India will need approximately 2.5 trillion dollars by 2030 to fulfil its commitments under the Paris Agreement.

CLASSICAL LANGUAGE STATUS

The Union Cabinet approved classical language status to 1) Marathi, 2) Bengali, 3) Assamese, 4) Pali, and 5) Prakrit.

India has had six classical languages till now: Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Sanskrit, and Odia.

Tamil was the first language to be given classical status in 2004 followed by Sanskrit in 2005.

With the new additions, 11 languages in India have Classical Language status.

9 classical languages are listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
